An information theoretic image steganalysis for LSB steganography

    Get PDF
Steganography hides the data within a media file in an imperceptible way. Steganalysis exposes steganography by using detection measures. Traditionally, Steganalysis revealed steganography by targeting perceptible and statistical properties which results in developing secure steganography schemes. In this work, we target LSB image steganography by using entropy and joint entropy metrics for steganalysis. First, the Embedded image is processed for feature extraction then analyzed by entropy and joint entropy with their corresponding original image. Second, SVM and Ensemble classifiers are trained according to the analysis results. The decision of classifiers discriminates cover image from stego image. This scheme is further applied on attacked stego image for checking detection reliability. Performance evaluation of proposed scheme is conducted over grayscale image datasets. We analyzed LSB embedded images by Comparing information gain from entropy and joint entropy metrics. Results conclude that entropy of the suspected image is more preserving than joint entropy. As before histogram attack, detection rate with entropy metric is 70% and 98% with joint entropy metric. However after an attack, entropy metric ends with 30% detection rate while joint entropy metric gives 93% detection rate. Therefore, joint entropy proves to be better steganalysis measure with 93% detection accuracy and less false alarms with varying hiding ratio

Hunting wild stego images, a domain adaptation problem in digital image forensics

    Get PDF
Digital image forensics is a field encompassing camera identication, forgery detection and steganalysis. Statistical modeling and machine learning have been successfully applied in the academic community of this maturing field. Still, large gaps exist between academic results and applications used by practicing forensic analysts, especially when the target samples are drawn from a different population than the data in a reference database. This thesis contains four published papers aiming at narrowing this gap in three different fields: mobile stego app detection, digital image steganalysis and camera identification. It is the first work to explore a way of extending the academic methods to real world images created by apps. New ideas and methods are developed for target images with very rich flexibility in the embedding rates, embedding algorithms, exposure settings and camera sources. The experimental results proved that the proposed methods work very well, even for the devices which are not included in the reference database

Randomized Symmetric Crypto Spatial Fusion Steganographic System

    Get PDF
The image fusion steganographic system embeds encrypted messages in decomposed multimedia carriers using a pseudorandom generator but it fails to evaluate the contents of the cover image. This results in the secret data being embedded in smooth regions, which leads to visible distortion that affects the imperceptibility and confidentiality. To solve this issue, as well as to improve the quality and robustness of the system, the Randomized Symmetric Crypto Spatial Fusion Steganography System is proposed in this study. It comprises three-subsystem bitwise encryption, spatial fusion, and bitwise embedding. First, bitwise encryption encrypts the message using bitwise operation to improve the confidentiality. Then, spatial fusion decomposes and evaluates the region of embedding on the basis of sharp intensity and capacity. This restricts the visibility of distortion and provides a high embedding capacity. Finally, the bitwise embedding system embeds the encrypted message through differencing the pixels in the region by 1, checking even or odd options and not equal to zero constraints. This reduces the modification rate to avoid distortion. The proposed heuristic algorithm is implemented in the blue channel, to which the human visual system is less sensitive. It was tested using standard IST natural images with steganalysis algorithms and resulted in better quality, imperceptibility, embedding capacity and invulnerability to various attacks compared to other steganographic systems

JRevealPEG: A Semi-Blind JPEG Steganalysis Tool Targeting Current Open-Source Embedding Programs

    Get PDF
Steganography in computer science refers to the hiding of messages or data within other messages or data; the detection of these hidden messages is called steganalysis. Digital steganography can be used to hide any type of file or data, including text, images, audio, and video inside other text, image, audio, or video data. While steganography can be used to legitimately hide data for non-malicious purposes, it is also frequently used in a malicious manner. This paper proposes JRevealPEG, a software tool written in Python that will aid in the detection of steganography in JPEG images with respect to identifying a targeted set of open-source embedding tools. It is hoped that JRevealPEG will assist in furthering the research into effective steganalysis techniques, to ultimately help identify the source of hidden and possibly sensitive or malicious messages, as well as contribute to efforts at thwarting the activities of bad actors

A New Approach For Image Hiding Based On Contourlet Transform

    Get PDF
A new image hiding method based on the contourlet transform is proposed inthis paper. This strategy is based on storing information in high frequency subbands of contourlet transform. The embedding approach is in direction that the contourlet sub-bands have the least statistical disorder. As a result, the proposed algorithm has a higher robustness against to common steganalysis approaches. In addition, the quality of stegano image has considerably improved in comparison with related state of the art methods, with the extracted secret image having an acceptable quality. Furthermore, theexperimental results show robustness respect to Gaussian noise and otherattacks such as JPEG compression.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i5.143

Steganography is the science of hiding a secret message in cover media, without any perceptual distortion of the cover media. Using steganography, information can be hidden in the carrier items such as images, videos, sounds files, text files, while performing data transmission. In image steganography field, it is a major concern of the researchers how to improve the capacity of hidden data into host image without causing any statistically significant modification. Therefore, this paper presents most of the recent works that have been conducted on image steganography field and analyzes them to clarify the strength and weakness points in each work separately in order to be taken in consideration for future works in such field.
