Local Electronic Structure and High Temperature Superconductivity
It is argued that a new mechanism and many-body theory of superconductivity
are required for doped correlated insulators. Here we review the essential
features of and the experimental support for such a theory, in which the

Effect of field tilting on the vortices in irradiated Bi-2212
We report on transport measurements in a Bi-2212 single crystal with columnar
defects parallel to the c-axis. The tilt of the magnetic field away from the
direction of the tracks is studied for filling factors f=B_z/B_phi<1. Near the
Bose Glass transition temperature T_BG, the angular scaling laws are verified
and we find the field independent critical exponents nu'=1.1 and z'=5.30.
Finally, above H_perpC we evidence the signature of a smectic-A like vortex
phase. These experimental results provide support for the Bose Glass theory.Comment: 2 pages LaTeX, 2 EPS figures, uses fleqn and espcrc2 style macros.

A Plan-Based Model for Response Generation in Collaborative Task-Oriented Dialogues
This paper presents a plan-based architecture for response generation in
collaborative consultation dialogues, with emphasis on cases in which the
system (consultant) and user (executing agent) disagree. Our work contributes
to an overall system for collaborative problem-solving by providing a
plan-based framework that captures the {\em Propose-Evaluate-Modify} cycle of
collaboration, and by allowing the system to initiate subdialogues to negotiate
proposed additions to the shared plan and to provide support for its claims. In
addition, our system handles in a unified manner the negotiation of proposed
domain actions, proposed problem-solving actions, and beliefs proposed by
discourse actions. Furthermore, it captures cooperative responses within the
collaborative framework and accounts for why questions are sometimes never
