Nowadays knowledge is one of the most important strategic resources in organizations. Knowledge sharing is a mechanism for people to capture, disseminate, transfer and apply useful knowledge. In this regard knowledge sharing has become a strategic issue: as a source of funding for university research and as a policy tool for economic development. So collaboration between universities (centers of science) and research organizations (centers for practice) can play an important role in the field of knowledge sharing, as such, understanding the perceptions of how knowledge is shared between organizations is very important in their implementation of KM. Therefore this paper begins with the description of the term knowledge. It then discusses knowledge sharing and scientific collaboration between universities & research centers. Finally different ways of this process like communicational channels, especially ICTs are discussed. Keywords- Information Technology, Knowledge Management, Knowledge Sharing, Inter-organization, Scientific Collaboratio

Abstract Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology is one of the most promising technological solutions to realize low-carbon utilization of fossil fuels in a large scale. Under the leadership of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), China and Italy initiated the "Sino-Italy Cooperation on Application of CCS to Coal Fired Power Plants" (SICCS) project which not only promoted CCS technology exchanges and scientific research collaboration between both countries, but also conducted a pre- feasibility study on a full chain demonstration project, including capture of CO2 from coal fired power plant, CO2 transport and storage. This paper will introduce the overall R&D collaboration progress on this project. It first reports activities designed to raise CCS capacity in China and to facilitate the knowledge sharing between Chinese and Italian academe, key outcomes of the SICCS project including the first and second Sino-Italian Scientific Meetings on technology exchange, information sharing, and preliminary feasibility study for CCS demonstration project in China. Then, this paper investigates the preliminary feasibility study of a 1.0 Mt/y carbon dioxide (CO2) capture unit for an existing coal fired power station in China carried out by experts from both China and Italy. The study results obtained with reference to Chinese 600 MWe thermoelectric power plant were compared with those of Italian CCS demonstration project. Finally, this paper concludes main results of the collaboration and preliminary study, raises a new cross-boarder science and technology collaboration mechanism based on industrialization of scientific research cooperation and technology exchange by co-conducting demonstration projects. It also extracts main features of the processes and technologies that may be applied to the demonstrative application of CCS to the 600 MWe unit of Chinese coal power plant

Against the backdrop of today’s knowledge economy and a strong pervasion of e-mail in enterprises, the paper at hand presents an e-mail embedded software prototype for knowledge management. Although information systems literature esteems the research field of e-mail- related knowledge management as phenomenon, few contributions have been made in artifact- based and problem-oriented research. As existing software applications lack in specificity and currency, a tailored information technology artifact grounded on the unique characteristics of e- mail has been developed in a joint university-industry project following the design science research methodology. “Memoro” facilitates knowledge capture/creation and knowledge sharing/dissemination. Core functionality is the lightweight storage and extraction of e-mail- related information to and from a central repository. With the limitation of a customized prototype, first evaluation results indicate that integrating knowledge management into the daily e-mail routine enables knowledge-intensive businesses to deal with their knowledge in more effective and efficient ways. From a research perspective, “Memoro” might serve scholars as origin for further research. We contribute to the body of knowledge by providing (1) an early version of an innovative design artifact and (2) a concept-centric literature review

The emergence of knowledge management (KM) has made individual and organization realized the importance of managing knowledge as it should be. It allows community to acquire tacit knowledge of human expert and transfer it into explicit knowledge before document it and share among community. Information and knowledge is crucial asset the organization strain to obtain particularly from other competitor. However they sometimes overlooked the important asset which is information and knowledge that lies inside the organization itself. The objective of the proposal projectis to provide a means of organization like Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) Computer and Information Science (CIS) department to manage their intellectual capital via KM approach. In addition this system focuses on developing KM application that aims to create a virtual workplace for their community, where they can manage (upload, delete, edit, download, view and comment) the content and discover information. The development project will provide a means of collecting, managing, sharing, locating information and discover of knowledge within community. Through the concept that people learn by asking and getting answer, announcement and latest news update, The "UTP Virtual FYP Community" is being developed as a remarkably easy to use, yet highly effective KM tools. Lacking of knowledge sharing might as well affect the community performance. "UTP Virtual FYP Community" will provide a way for information and knowledge can be spread widely among community including students and lecturers. By having such knowledge management system, there will be a systematic way in storing and managing knowledge. It is hopedthat this method ofKM created can be leveraged by community and others. By using information technology, this project helps create the opportunities to capture knowledge which may require collaborative environment

Thesis (M.B.A.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Management; and, (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 2001.Includes bibliographical references (leaf 56).Manufacturing companies that successfully grow their markets and operations face the challenge coordinating operations to capture the value created by economies of scale. However, sharing best practices across organizations requires diligent coordination between the multiple business units. This research describes and examines a method for coordination and knowledge transfer commonly referred to as Copy Exact. This method, often associated with technology transfer in semiconductor fabrication facilities, can be readily applied to implementation of large-scale information systems. By sharing the collective knowledge and resources of multiple independent groups within a larger organization, the Copy Exact approach can lower total development and implementation costs, accelerate the time required for full solution deployment, and improve likelihood of smooth, trouble-free implementations. However, the close coordination required to execute the Copy Exact approach gives rise to significant coordination costs, and requires careful attention to methods of communication and knowledge sharing applied. Dell Computer Corporation has applied the Copy Exact methodology to implement factory level supply chain integration package across its 12 worldwide manufacturing facilities. The decision to apply Copy Exact during implementation of the DSi2 system at Dell yielded significant benefits for the cost, speed, stability, and sustainability of the project. However, Copy Exact also created challenges of factory specific software customization and of trans-global project support. The nature and significance of these benefits and challenges are detailed and, where possible, quantified in this thesis. Further, tactics useful for maximizing the Copy Exact benefits and managing the challenges are presented. The findings of this research indicate that Copy Exact can be successfully applied to information systems implementations. Dell stands to benefit from further application of Copy Exact to multi-factory projects, and similar manufacturing organizations can learn from Dell's example.by Charles F. Gray.S.M.M.B.A

IMPROVING PEER LEARNING AND KNOWLEDGE SHARING IN STEM COURSES VIA PATTERN BASED GRAPH VISUALIZATION

High quality education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) majors expects not only the acquisition of comprehensive domain knowledge, but also the mastery of skills to solve open-ended and even ill-defined problems in real world. Problem-based Learning (PBL) is usually adopted to achieve such goals by encouraging students to learn by solving real-life problems. However, successful PBL requires sustained and in-depth involvement of faculty members, hence making PBL not scalable. Even though discussion forums and Q&A systems can help address the scalability problem of faculty involvement on large class sizes, it introduces new problems. First, as knowledge bases grow in size, the sheer size of the accumulated knowledge makes it harder to locate the desired information. Second, existing knowledge discovery techniques do not provide effective facilities for the capture and reuse of solutions to recurring problems. To address these challenges, we developed MicroBrowser, an innovative and interactive Question & Answer (Q&A) system augmented with pattern-based expertise-sharing interfaces and 2D knowledge graph discussion visualization. MicroBrowser provides a set of pattern-based expertise-sharing interfaces to allow both learners and instructors to refine, reuse, and share knowledge. MicroBrowser also allows learners to browse and navigate important discussions based on topic similarity encoded by node proximity in a knowledge graph. Results of empirical evaluations of our proposed solution show that ask difficulty improves with MicroBrowser when compared with a state-of-the-art Q&A system for knowledge discovery and reuse tasks. In addition, success rate for knowledge discovery tasks using keywords was higher with MicroBrowser. Moreover, we show that, students found the pattern-based expertise-sharing interface easy to use and were able to contribute new knowledge in the form of new knowledge connections and even recommend new design patterns

Auto Guided Vehicle (AGV) is commonly used in industry to reduce labour cost and to improve the productivity. A few programmable devices are combined in an AGV to optimize the usage of time and energy. AGV is widely used to transport goods and materials from one place to another place. For the first generation of AGV was used the track to guide the AGV but it was not flexible enough. This study investigates an alternative to control an AGV using two rotary encoders and proportional controller. Arduino Mega 2560 was used as a microcontroller to receive and process the signals from the rotary encoders. Logic controller and proportional controller were implemented to control the AGV, respectively. The coefficient of proportional controller was optimized to improve the performance of the AGV during navigation process. Findings show that AGV with the proportional controller with coefficient 1.5 achieved the best performance during the navigation process

Due to the new threats and challenges faced by the construction industry today, construction companies must seek new solutions in order to remain ahead of the competition. Knowledge has been identified to be a significant organisational resource, which if used effectively can provide competitive advantage. A lot of emphasis is being put on how to identify, capture and share knowledge in today's organisations. It has been argued over the years that due to the fragmented nature of the construction industry and ad-hoc nature of the construction projects, capture and reuse of valuable knowledge gathered during a construction project pose a challenge. As a result critical mistakes are repeated on projects and construction professionals have to kee
