A novel symmetric image cryptosystem resistant to noise perturbation based on S8 elliptic curve S-boxes and chaotic maps
The recent decade has seen a tremendous escalation of multimedia and its applications. These modern applications demand diverse security requirements and innovative security platforms. In this manuscript, we proposed an algorithm for image encryption applications. The core structure of this algorithm relies on confusion and diffusion operations. The confusion is mainly done through the application of the elliptic curve and S8 symmetric group. The proposed work incorporates three distinct chaotic maps. A detailed investigation is presented to analyze the behavior of chaos for secure communication. The chaotic sequences are then accordingly applied to the proposed algorithm. The modular approach followed in the design framework and integration of chaotic maps into the system makes the algorithm viable for a variety of image encryption applications. The resiliency of the algorithm can further be enhanced by increasing the number of rounds and S-boxes deployed. The statistical findings and simulation results imply that the algorithm is resistant to various attacks. Moreover, the algorithm satisfies all major performance and quality metrics. The encryption scheme can also resist channel noise as well as noise-induced by a malicious user. The decryption is successfully done for noisy data with minor distortions. The overall results determine that the proposed algorithm contains good cryptographic properties and low computational complexity makes it viable to low profile applications
Bioelectronic Sensor Nodes for Internet of Bodies
Energy-efficient sensing with Physically-secure communication for bio-sensors
on, around and within the Human Body is a major area of research today for
development of low-cost healthcare, enabling continuous monitoring and/or
secure, perpetual operation. These devices, when used as a network of nodes
form the Internet of Bodies (IoB), which poses certain challenges including
stringent resource constraints (power/area/computation/memory), simultaneous
sensing and communication, and security vulnerabilities as evidenced by the DHS
and FDA advisories. One other major challenge is to find an efficient on-body
energy harvesting method to support the sensing, communication, and security
sub-modules. Due to the limitations in the harvested amount of energy, we
require reduction of energy consumed per unit information, making the use of
in-sensor analytics/processing imperative. In this paper, we review the
challenges and opportunities in low-power sensing, processing and
communication, with possible powering modalities for future bio-sensor nodes.
Specifically, we analyze, compare and contrast (a) different sensing mechanisms
such as voltage/current domain vs time-domain, (b) low-power, secure
communication modalities including wireless techniques and human-body
communication, and (c) different powering techniques for both wearable devices
and implants.Comment: 30 pages, 5 Figures. This is a pre-print version of the article which

Resilient networking in wireless sensor networks
This report deals with security in wireless sensor networks (WSNs),
especially in network layer. Multiple secure routing protocols have been
proposed in the literature. However, they often use the cryptography to secure
routing functionalities. The cryptography alone is not enough to defend against
multiple attacks due to the node compromise. Therefore, we need more
algorithmic solutions. In this report, we focus on the behavior of routing
protocols to determine which properties make them more resilient to attacks.
Our aim is to find some answers to the following questions. Are there any
existing protocols, not designed initially for security, but which already
contain some inherently resilient properties against attacks under which some
portion of the network nodes is compromised? If yes, which specific behaviors
are making these protocols more resilient? We propose in this report an
overview of security strategies for WSNs in general, including existing attacks
and defensive measures. In this report we focus at the network layer in
particular, and an analysis of the behavior of four particular routing
protocols is provided to determine their inherent resiliency to insider
attacks. The protocols considered are: Dynamic Source Routing (DSR),
Gradient-Based Routing (GBR), Greedy Forwarding (GF) and Random Walk Routing
(RWR)
A Review of Hashing based Image Copy Detection Techniques
Images are considered to be natural carriers of information, and a large number of images are created, exchanged and are made available online. Apart from creating new images, the availability of number of duplicate copies of images is a critical problem. Hashing based image copy detection techniques are a promising alternative to address this problem. In this approach, a hash is constructed by using a set of unique features extracted from the image for identification. This article provides a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art image hashing techniques. The reviewed techniques are categorized by the mechanism used and compared across a set of functional & performance parameters. The article finally highlights the current issues faced by such systems and possible future directions to motivate further research work
Uav-assisted data collection in wireless sensor networks: A comprehensive survey
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are usually deployed to different areas of interest to sense phenomena, process sensed data, and take actions accordingly. The networks are integrated with many advanced technologies to be able to fulfill their tasks that is becoming more and more complicated. These networks tend to connect to multimedia networks and to process huge data over long distances. Due to the limited resources of static sensor nodes, WSNs need to cooperate with mobile robots such as unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in their developments. The mobile devices show their maneuverability, computational and energystorage abilities to support WSNs in multimedia networks. This paper addresses a comprehensive survey of almost scenarios utilizing UAVs and UGVs with strogly emphasising on UAVs for data collection in WSNs. Either UGVs or UAVs can collect data from static sensor nodes in the monitoring fields. UAVs can either work alone to collect data or can cooperate with other UAVs to increase their coverage in their working fields. Different techniques to support the UAVs are addressed in this survey. Communication links, control algorithms, network structures and different mechanisms are provided and compared. Energy consumption or transportation cost for such scenarios are considered. Opening issues and challenges are provided and suggested for the future developments
Towards Optimal Copyright Protection Using Neural Networks Based Digital Image Watermarking
In the field of digital watermarking, digital image watermarking for copyright protection has attracted a lot of attention in the research community. Digital watermarking contains varies techniques for protecting the digital content. Among all those techniques,Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) provides higher image imperceptibility and robustness. Over the years, researchers have been designing watermarking techniques with robustness in mind, in order for the watermark to be resistant against any image processing techniques. Furthermore, the requirements of a good watermarking technique includes a tradeoff between robustness, image quality (imperceptibility) and capacity. In this paper, we have done an extensive literature review for the existing DWT techniques and those combined with other techniques such as Neural Networks. In addition to that, we have discuss the contribution of Neural Networks in copyright protection. Finally we reached our goal in which we identified the research gaps existed in the current watermarking schemes. So that, it will be easily to obtain an optimal techniques to make the watermark object robust to attacks while maintaining the imperceptibility to enhance the copyright protection
