Secure data sharing in cloud and IoT by leveraging attribute-based encryption and blockchain
“Data sharing is very important to enable different types of cloud and IoT-based services. For example, organizations migrate their data to the cloud and share it with employees and customers in order to enjoy better fault-tolerance, high-availability, and scalability offered by the cloud. Wearable devices such as smart watch share user’s activity, location, and health data (e.g., heart rate, ECG) with the service provider for smart analytic. However, data can be sensitive, and the cloud and IoT service providers cannot be fully trusted with maintaining the security, privacy, and confidentiality of the data. Hence, new schemes and protocols are required to enable secure data sharing in the cloud and IoT. This work outlines our research contribution towards secure data sharing in the cloud and IoT. For secure data sharing in the cloud, this work proposes several novel attribute-based encryption schemes. The core contributions to this end are efficient revocation, prevention of collusion attacks, and multi-group support. On the other hand, for secure data sharing in IoT, a permissioned blockchain-based access control system has been proposed. The system can be used to enforce fine-grained access control on IoT data where the access control decision is made by the blockchain-based on the consensus of the participating nodes”--Abstract, page iv
ESPOON: Enforcing Security Policies In Outsourced Environments
Data outsourcing is a growing business model offering services to individuals
and enterprises for processing and storing a huge amount of data. It is not
only economical but also promises higher availability, scalability, and more
effective quality of service than in-house solutions. Despite all its benefits,
data outsourcing raises serious security concerns for preserving data
confidentiality. There are solutions for preserving confidentiality of data
while supporting search on the data stored in outsourced environments. However,
such solutions do not support access policies to regulate access to a
particular subset of the stored data.
For complex user management, large enterprises employ Role-Based Access
Controls (RBAC) models for making access decisions based on the role in which a
user is active in. However, RBAC models cannot be deployed in outsourced
environments as they rely on trusted infrastructure in order to regulate access
to the data. The deployment of RBAC models may reveal private information about
sensitive data they aim to protect. In this paper, we aim at filling this gap
by proposing \textbf{} for enforcing RBAC policies in
outsourced environments. enforces RBAC policies in an
encrypted manner where a curious service provider may learn a very limited
information about RBAC policies. We have implemented
and provided its performance evaluation showing a limited overhead, thus
confirming viability of our approach.Comment: The final version of this paper has been accepted for publication in

PHOABE : securely outsourcing multi-authority attribute based encryption with policy hidden for cloud assisted IoT
Attribute based encryption (ABE) is an encrypted access control mechanism that ensures efficient data sharing among dynamic group of users. Nevertheless, this encryption technique presents two main drawbacks, namely high decryption cost and publicly shared access policies, thus leading to possible users’ privacy leakage.
In this paper, we introduce PHOABE, a Policy-Hidden Outsourced ABE scheme. Our construction presents several advantages. First, it is a multi-attribute authority ABE scheme. Second, the expensive computations for the ABE decryption process is partially delegated to a Semi Trusted Cloud Server. Third, users’ privacy is protected thanks to a hidden access policy. Fourth, PHOABE is proven to be selectively secure, verifiable and policy privacy preserving under the random oracle model. Five, estimation of the processing overhead proves its feasibility in IoT constrained environments
Cloud Security in Crypt Database Server Using Fine Grained Access Control
Information sharing in the cloud, powered by good patterns in cloud technology, is rising as a guaranteeing procedure for permitting users to advantageously access information. However, the growing number of enterprises and customers who stores their information in cloud servers is progressively challenging users’ privacy and the security of information. This paper concentrates on providing a dependable and secure cloud information sharing services that permits users dynamic access to their information. In order to achieve this, propose an effective, adaptable and flexible privacy preserving information policy with semantic security, by using Cipher text Policy Element Based Encryption (CP-EBE) consolidated with Character Based Encryption (CBE) systems. To ensure strong information sharing security, the policy succeeds in protecting the privacy of cloud users and supports efficient and secure dynamic operations, but not constrained to, file creation, user revocation. Security analysis demonstrates that the proposed policy is secure under the generic bi- linear group model in the random oracle model and enforces fine-grained access control, full collusion resistance and retrogressive secrecy. Furthermore, performance analysis and experimental results demonstrate that the overheads are as light as possible
