    ENHANCING PRIVACY IN MULTI-AGENT SYSTEMS

Such Aparicio, JM. (2011). Multi-agent systems have attracted the attention of researchers because of agents' automatic, pro-active, and dynamic problem solving behaviors. Consequently, there has been a rapid development in agent technology which has enabled us to provide or receive useful and convenient services in a variety of areas such as banking, transportation, e-business, and healthcare. In many of these services, it is, however, necessary that security is guaranteed. Unless we guarantee the security services based on agent-based systems, these services will face significant deployment problems. In this paper, we survey existing work related to security in multi-agent systems, especially focused on access control and trust/reputation, and then present our analyses. We also present existing problems and discuss future research challenges. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V 2011

    Quantifying DDS-cerberus Network Control Overhead

Securing distributed device communication is critical because the private industry and the military depend on these resources. One area that adversaries target is the middleware, which is the medium that connects different systems. This paper evaluates a novel security layer, DDS-Cerberus (DDS-C), that protects in-transit data and improves communication efficiency on data-first distribution systems. This research contributes a distributed robotics operating system testbed and designs a multifactorial performance-based experiment to evaluate DDS-C efficiency and security by assessing total packet traffic generated in a robotics network. The performance experiment follows a 2:1 publisher to subscriber node ratio, varying the number of subscribers and publisher nodes from three to eighteen. By categorizing the network traffic from these nodes into either data message, security, or discovery+ with Quality of Service (QoS) best effort and reliable, the mean security traffic from DDS-C has minimal impact to Data Distribution Service (DDS) operations compared to other network traffic. The results reveal that applying DDS-C to a representative distributed network robotics operating system network does not impact performance

Internet of Things defines a large number of diverse entities and services which interconnect with each other and individually or cooperatively operate depending on context, conditions and environments, produce a huge personal and sensitive data. In this scenario, the satisfaction of privacy, security and trust plays a critical role in the success of the Internet of Things. Trust here can be considered as a key property to establish trustworthy and seamless connectivity among entities and to guarantee secure services and applications. The aim of this study is to provide a survey on various trust computation strategies and identify future trends in the field. We discuss trust computation methods under several aspects and provide comparison of the approaches based on trust features, performance, advantages, weaknesses and limitations of each strategy. Finally the research discuss on the gap of the trust literature and raise some research directions in trust computation in the Internet of Things

A Scalable Multiagent Platform for Large Systems

[EN] A new generation of open and dynamic systems requires execution frameworks that are capable of being efficient and scalable when large populations of agents are launched. These frameworks must provide efficient support for systems of this kind, by means of an efficient messaging service, agent group management, security issues, etc. To cope with these requirements, in this paper, we present a novel Multiagent Platform that has been developed at the Operating System level. This feature provides high efficiency rates and scalability compared to other high-performance middleware-based Multiagent Platforms. This work has been partially supported by CONSOLIDER-INGENIO 2010 under grant CSD2007-00022, and projects TIN2011-27652-C03-01 and TIN2008-04446. A Hierarchical Agent-based Approach to Security in Smart Offices

    Get PDF
As electronic devices become more and more pervasively integrated in our daily routine, security concerns start to become evident. In the last years, there has been an increasing interest on the topic of security in smart environments. One of the most challenging environments regarding security are smart offices due to the high number of potential users, devices and spaces, and the diversity of security roles. This paper presents a security solution for an agent-based architecture for the smart office. This security solution is potentially applicable to generic smart environments, but it suits particularly well to the smart office scenario, taking advantage of the particular characteristics of the environment to satisfy the security requirements. The result is a hierarchical, agent-based solution, flexible and scalable enough to be applicable to different smart office scenarios, from small businesses to large organizations

    Reorganization in Dynamic Agent Societies

(2013). Reorganization in Dynamic Agent Societies [Tesis doctoral no publicada].
