The purpose of this article was to explore the pattern of publications, using bibliometric analysis, of Journal of Documentation for the period of 2005 to 2018. The results of the study shows that a total of 687 articles were published in the 14 years period from 2005 to 2018, with 71 (10.3%) articles being published the highest total in the year 2018. The study confirmed that the maximum number of articles i.e. 304 (43.9%), were published by single authors, out of which, a large number were on research articles. Out of total number of articles published 228 (33.1%) were 16-20 pages in length. Volume number 74 in 2018 had the highest number of citations with a total of 91 (13.6%). In addition, the study confirmed that the highest number of articles were research articles with a total of 493 (71.7), while others were case studies, conceptual studies, literature reviews, viewpoints and technical papers and short communications, etc

Physician documentation of access to firearms in suicidal patients in the emergency department

    Get PDF
Introduction: Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. An estimated 50% of these deaths are due to firearms. Suicidal ideation (SI) is a common complaint presenting to the emergency department (ED). Despite these facts, provider documentation on access to lethal means is lacking. Our primary aim was to quantify documentation of access to firearms in patients presenting to the ED with a chief complaint of SI.Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of consecutive patients, nearly all of whom presented to an academic, urban ED with SI during July 2014. We collected data from all provider documentation in the electronic health record. Primary outcome assessed was whether the emergency physician (EP) team documented access to firearms. Secondary outcomes included demographic information, preexisting psychiatric diagnoses, and disposition. Results: We reviewed 100 patient charts. The median age of patients was 38 years. The majority of patients had a psychiatric condition. EPs documented access to firearms in only 3% of patient charts. Conclusion: EPs do not adequately document access to firearms in patients with SI. There is a clear need for educational initiatives regarding risk-factor assessment and counseling against lethal means in this patient cohort

Libraries in China's higher education institutions have been developing in keeping pace with the flourishing development of China's higher education. This article aims to make an introduction to the construction of China's higher education libraries, especially the recent three decades' achievements since China's reform and opening-up in 1978. In this article, the authors draw a general picture of the development of libraries in China's higher education institutions, covering such eight aspects as management, types and positioning, organizational structure and personnel, expenditure and buildings, reader service, building and sharing of resources as well as automation system.</p

Delayed discharges and unplanned admissions from the Day Care Unit at Mater Dei Hospital, Malta

    Get PDF
Day care units are playing an increasingly important role in healthcare provision, however they require the development of specialised resources to fulfil their role. The rate of unplanned admissions following day-case procedures is considered as one of several indicators of the quality of day-case services available.1 The aim of this study is to identify how often there are delayed discharged or unplanned admissions following day-cases at the Day Care Unit at Mater Dei Hospital (MDH), Malta. A list of patients whose discharge did not go as planned was forwarded daily to the authors by the Bed Management Unit at MDH. The medical files of these patients were then reviewed and data collected. This included demographics, type of procedure carried out and reasons for delayed discharge or unplanned admission. The study was carried out over 45 days.peer-reviewe

3D Data Processing Toward Maintenance and Conservation. The Integrated Digital Documentation of Casa de Vidro

    Get PDF
During the last decade, 3D integrated surveys and BIM modelling procedures have greatly improved the overall knowledge on some Brazilian Modernist buildings. In this framework, the Casa de Vidro 3D survey carried out by DIAPReM centre at Ferrara University, beside the important outputs, analysis and researches achieved from the point cloud database processing, was also useful to test several awareness increasing activities in cooperation with local stakeholders. The first digital documentation test of the Casa de Vidro allowed verifying the feasibility of a full survey on the building towards the restoration and possible placement of new architectures into the garden as an archive-museum of the Lina Bo and P.M. Bardi Foundation. Later, full 3D integrated survey and diagnostic analysis were carried out to achieve the total digital documentation of the house sponsored by the Keeping it Modern initiative of Getty Foundation (Los Angeles). Following its characteristics, the survey had to take into consideration the different architectural features, up to the relationship of architecture and nature. These 3D documentation activities and the point cloud processing allowed several analysis in a multidisciplinary framework

Business Process Redesign in the Perioperative Process: A Case Perspective for Digital Transformation

    Get PDF
This case study investigates business process redesign within the perioperative process as a method to achieve digital transformation. Specific perioperative sub-processes are targeted for re-design and digitalization, which yield improvement. Based on a 184-month longitudinal study of a large 1,157 registered-bed academic medical center, the observed effects are viewed through a lens of information technology (IT) impact on core capabilities and core strategy to yield a digital transformation framework that supports patient-centric improvement across perioperative sub-processes. This research identifies existing limitations, potential capabilities, and subsequent contextual understanding to minimize perioperative process complexity, target opportunity for improvement, and ultimately yield improved capabilities. Dynamic technological activities of analysis, evaluation, and synthesis applied to specific perioperative patient-centric data collected within integrated hospital information systems yield the organizational resource for process management and control. Conclusions include theoretical and practical implications as well as study limitations

Concordance of gout management with European League against Rheumatism recommendations in hospital practice

    Get PDF
Aim: To assess the concordance of gout management with the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) gout recommendations in hospital practice. Methods: This was a retrospective review of case notes of patients presenting to rheumatology outpatients between June and December 2009 under the care of 2 consultant rheumatologists. Data collected consisted of demographics, time lag to specialist referral, comorbidities, details about acute and recurrent attacks, lifestyle advice and use of urate lowering therapies. Documented management was assessed for concordance with the EULAR recommendations. Results: Thirty consecutive patients (27 males, 3 females) attending Rheumatology clinic at Mater Dei Hospital were recruited. Mean age at the time of survey was 59.4 ± 10.7 years, while mean age at diagnosis was 51.1 ± 14 years. Documentation of lifestyle advice was recorded for alcohol reduction (83%), weight loss (43%), diet (13%), and exercise (13%). Adequate control of comorbidities was attained in hyperlipidaemia (71%), diabetes mellitus (55%) and hypertension (30%). Advice about smoking cessation was given to 37%. Uric acid levels below target were achieved in 47%. The mean uric acid level at time of survey was 379 ± 146 μmol/l. This was significantly less than that at presentation (p=0.001). Conclusions: Current treatment of gout is poorly concordant with many of the EULAR recommendations. Documentation of lifestyle modifications advice is infrequent except for alcohol reduction. A significant number of patents on allopurinol still have hyperuricaemia implying that more aggressive management is required to improve standard of care. A proforma has been developed to make and help sustain the necessary improvements.peer-reviewe
