Sub-graph based joint sparse graph for sparse code multiple access systems
Sparse code multiple access (SCMA) is a promising air interface candidate technique for next generation mobile networks, especially for massive machine type communications (mMTC). In this paper, we design a LDPC coded SCMA detector by combining the sparse graphs of LDPC and SCMA into one joint sparse graph (JSG). In our proposed scheme, SCMA sparse graph (SSG) defined by small size indicator matrix is utilized to construct the JSG, which is termed as sub-graph based joint sparse graph of SCMA (SG-JSG-SCMA). In this paper, we first study the binary-LDPC (B-LDPC) coded SGJSG- SCMA system. To combine the SCMA variable node (SVN) and LDPC variable node (LVN) into one joint variable node (JVN), a non-binary LDPC (NB-LDPC) coded SG-JSG-SCMA is also proposed. Furthermore, to reduce the complexity of NBLDPC coded SG-JSG-SCMA, a joint trellis representation (JTR) is introduced to represent the search space of NB-LDPC coded SG-JSG-SCMA. Based on JTR, a low complexity joint trellis based detection and decoding (JTDD) algorithm is proposed to reduce the computational complexity of NB-LDPC coded SGJSG- SCMA system. According to the simulation results, SG-JSGSCMA brings significant performance improvement compare to the conventional receiver using the disjoint approach, and it can also outperform a Turbo-structured receiver with comparable complexity. Moreover, the joint approach also has advantages in terms of processing latency compare to the Turbo approaches
A Novel Power Allocation Scheme for Two-User GMAC with Finite Input Constellations
Constellation Constrained (CC) capacity regions of two-user Gaussian Multiple
Access Channels (GMAC) have been recently reported, wherein an appropriate
angle of rotation between the constellations of the two users is shown to
enlarge the CC capacity region. We refer to such a scheme as the Constellation
Rotation (CR) scheme. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme called the
Constellation Power Allocation (CPA) scheme, wherein the instantaneous transmit
power of the two users are varied by maintaining their average power
constraints. We show that the CPA scheme offers CC sum capacities equal (at low
SNR values) or close (at high SNR values) to those offered by the CR scheme
with reduced decoding complexity for QAM constellations. We study the
robustness of the CPA scheme for random phase offsets in the channel and
unequal average power constraints for the two users. With random phase offsets
in the channel, we show that the CC sum capacity offered by the CPA scheme is
more than the CR scheme at high SNR values. With unequal average power
constraints, we show that the CPA scheme provides maximum gain when the power
levels are close, and the advantage diminishes with the increase in the power
difference.Comment: To appear in IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 10 pages

Space-Time Signal Design for Multilevel Polar Coding in Slow Fading Broadcast Channels
Slow fading broadcast channels can model a wide range of applications in
wireless networks. Due to delay requirements and the unavailability of the
channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT), these channels for many
applications are non-ergodic. The appropriate measure for designing signals in
non-ergodic channels is the outage probability. In this paper, we provide a
method to optimize STBCs based on the outage probability at moderate SNRs.
Multilevel polar coded-modulation is a new class of coded-modulation techniques
that benefits from low complexity decoders and simple rate matching. In this
paper, we derive the outage optimality condition for multistage decoding and
propose a rule for determining component code rates. We also derive an upper
bound on the outage probability of STBCs for designing the
set-partitioning-based labelling. Finally, due to the optimality of the
outage-minimized STBCs for long codes, we introduce a novel method for the
joint optimization of short-to-moderate length polar codes and STBCs
Cooperative Lattice Coding and Decoding
A novel lattice coding framework is proposed for outage-limited cooperative
channels. This framework provides practical implementations for the optimal
cooperation protocols proposed by Azarian et al. In particular, for the relay
channel we implement a variant of the dynamic decode and forward protocol,
which uses orthogonal constellations to reduce the channel seen by the
destination to a single-input single-output time-selective one, while
inheriting the same diversity-multiplexing tradeoff. This simplification allows
for building the receiver using traditional belief propagation or tree search
architectures. Our framework also generalizes the coding scheme of Yang and
Belfiore in the context of amplify and forward cooperation. For the cooperative
multiple access channel, a tree coding approach, matched to the optimal linear
cooperation protocol of Azarain et al, is developed. For this scenario, the
MMSE-DFE Fano decoder is shown to enjoy an excellent tradeoff between
performance and complexity. Finally, the utility of the proposed schemes is
established via a comprehensive simulation study.Comment: 25 pages, 8 figure
