Survey of partitioning techniques in silicon compilation
In the silicon compilation design process, partitioning is usually the first problem to be investigated because partitioning algorithms form the backbone of many algorithms including: system synthesis, processor synthesis, floorplanning, and placement. In this survey, several partitioning techniques will be examined. In addition, this paper will review the partitioning algorithms used by synthesis systems at different design levels
Optimized Solar Photovoltaic Generation in a Real Local Distribution Network
Remarkable penetration of renewable energy in electric networks, despite its
valuable opportunities, such as power loss reduction and loadability
improvements, has raised concerns for system operators. Such huge penetration
can lead to a violation of the grid requirements, such as voltage and current
limits and reverse power flow. Optimal placement and sizing of Distributed
Generation (DG) are one of the best ways to strengthen the efficiency of the
power systems. This paper builds a simulation model for the local distribution
network based on obtained load profiles, GIS information, solar insolation,
feeder and voltage settings, and define the optimization problem of solar PVDG
installation to determine the optimal siting and sizing for different
penetration levels with different objective functions. The objective functions
include voltage profile improvement and energy loss minimization and the
considered constraints include the physical distribution network constraints
(AC power flow), the PV capacity constraint, and the voltage and reverse power
flow constraints.Comment: To be published (Accepted) in: Proceedings of the IEEE PES Innovative

Proposed shunt rounding technique for large-scale security constrained loss minimization
The official published version can be obtained from the link below - Copyright @ 2010 IEEE.Optimal reactive power flow applications often model large numbers of discrete shunt devices as continuous variables, which are rounded to their nearest discrete value at the final iteration. This can degrade optimality. This paper presents novel methods based on probabilistic and adaptive threshold approaches that can extend existing security constrained optimal reactive power flow methods to effectively solve large-scale network problems involving discrete shunt devices. Loss reduction solutions from the proposed techniques were compared to solutions from the mixed integer nonlinear mathematical programming algorithm (MINLP) using modified IEEE standard networks up to 118 buses. The proposed techniques were also applied to practical large-scale network models of Great Britain. The results show that the proposed techniques can achieve improved loss minimization solutions when compared to the standard rounding method. This work was supported in part by the National Grid and in part by the EPSRC.
