    Tree-Mining: Understanding Applications and Challenges

    Tree-mining is an essential system of techniques and software technologies for multi-level and multi-angled operations in databases. Pertaining to the purview of this manuscript, several applications of various sub-techniques of tree mining have been explored. The current write-up is aimed at investigating the major applications and challenges of different types and techniques of tree mining, as there have been patchy and scanty investigations so far in this context. To accomplish these tasks, the author has reviewed some of the latest and most pertinent research articles of the last two decades to investigate the titled aspects of this technique

    Pattern Set Mining with Schema-based Constraint

    Pattern set mining entails discovering groups of frequent itemsets that represent potentially relevant knowledge. Global constraints are commonly enforced to focus the analysis on most interesting pattern sets. However, these constraints evaluate and select each pattern set individually based on its itemset characteristics. This paper extends traditional global constraints by proposing a novel constraint, called schema-based constraint, tailored to relational data. When coping with relational data itemsets consist of sets of items belonging to distinct data attributes, which constitute the itemset schema. The schema-based constraint allows us to effectively combine all the itemsets that are semantically correlated with each other into a unique pattern set, while filtering out those pattern sets covering a mixture of different data facets or giving a partial view of a single facet. Specifically, it selects all the pattern sets that are (i) composed only of frequent itemsets with the same schema and (ii) characterized by maximal size among those corresponding to that schema. Since existing approaches are unable to select one representative pattern set per schema in a single extraction, we propose a new Apriori-based algorithm to efficiently mine pattern sets satisfying the schema-based constraint. The experimental results achieved on both real and synthetic datasets demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of our approach

    Streaming Big Data Analysis for Real-Time Sentiment based Targeted Advertising

    Big Data constituting from the information shared in the various social network sites have great relevance for research to be applied in diverse fields like marketing, politics, health or disaster management. Social network sites like Facebook and Twitter are now extensively used for conducting business, marketing products and services and collecting opinions and feedbacks regarding the same. Since data gathered from these sites regarding a product/brand are up-to-date and are mostly supplied voluntarily, it tends to be more realistic, massive and reflects the general public opinion. Its analysis on real time can lead to accurate insights and responding to the results sooner is undoubtedly advantageous than responding later.  In this paper, a cloud based system for real time targeted advertising based on tweet sentiment analysis is designed and implemented using the big data processing engine Apache Spark, utilizing its streaming library.     Set-Oriented Mining for Association Rules in Relational Databases

    Describe set-oriented algorithms for mining association rules. Such algorithms imply performing multiple joins and may appear to be inherently less efficient than special-purpose algorithms. We develop new algorithms that can be expressed as SQL queries, and discuss the optimization of these algorithms. After analytical evaluation, an algorithm named SETM emerges as the algorithm of choice. SETM uses only simple database primitives, viz. sorting and merge-scan join. SETM is simple, fast and stable over the range of parameter values. The major contribution of this paper is that it shows that at least some aspects of data mining can be carried out by using general query languages such as SQL, rather than by developing specialized black-box algorithms.
