    Na construção de plataformas de reabilitação há uma certa tendência para a construção personalizada de hardware cuja manutenção se revela problemática, onde as peças de substituição são difíceis de encontrar, reduzindo a sua longevidade e utilidade a longo prazo. Com a evolução da tecnologia atual de sensores, dispomos de uma alternativa para construir tecnologias de reabilitação viáveis, utilizando componentes do mercado para hardware personalizado ou utilizando produtos comercialmente disponíveis, sempre que possível. Utilizando protocolos de comunicação conhecidos, como o GATT, é possível esta belecer uma interface com tecnologias de sensores disponíveis comercialmente para construir uma plataforma que proporcione tanto a longevidade e personalização para o utilizador final. Foi desenvolvido um conjunto de aplicações front-end, utilizando o Angular, forne cendo uma solução à medida para a gestão de pacientes e sessões de reabilitação, ao mesmo tempo que proporciona um estímulo visual aos seus utilizadores. Estas aplicações fazem interface com as APIs existentes, desenvolvidas utilizando a framework .Net Core, e que permitem a ligação de sensores comerciais e construídos à medida que seguem a especificação Bluetooth SIG. A reabilitação dos membros inferiores é gerida por um medidor de potência perso nalizado que foi construído utilizando componentes comerciais e que proporcionou uma oportunidade de reutilização de hardware de um projeto semelhante. Outros desenvolvimentos adicionais podem acrescentar compatibilidade para ou tros sensores Bluetooth, expandindo a sua utilidade para além da reabilitação dos membros inferiores, aumentando assim a sua longevidade

    Mestrado em Engenharia Electrónica e TelecomunicaçõesVideo streaming in environments with high probability of packet losses requires the use of redundancy mechanisms. The WSRT protocol was created to improve the packet delivery probability in multi-hop mesh networks with lossy channels by employing IEEE 802.11 protocol. WSRT creates multiple disjoint paths which minimize common nodes between them, whenever possible, and relays the same data by each one of them, thus increasing the reception probability. Moreover, it also uses a TDMA scheme to avoid collisions and so improve energy and bandwidth utilization. To achieve these objectives the system is decomposed in 3 different phases, Announcement in which the system will have knowledge of every node in the network. Path Definition in which the multiple disjoint paths are distributed and Running in which the system relays usefull data between two points, source and sink. The protocol was implemented on Linux. This dissertation describes the architecture, implementation and a set of experimental results, which validate the main protocol features, is also included.O streaming de vídeo em ambientes com alta probabilidade de perda de pacotes necessita do uso de mecanismos de redundância. Wireless Soft Real-Time (WSRT) cria caminhos múltiplos para minimizar nós em comum entre estes, e quando possível, reencaminha a informação por cada um destes, aumentando assim a probabilidade de recepção.     Development of a Security-Focused Multi-Channel Communication Protocol and Associated Quality of Secure Service (QoSS) Metrics

    The threat of eavesdropping, and the challenge of recognizing and correcting for corrupted or suppressed information in communication systems is a consistent challenge. Effectively managing protection mechanisms requires an ability to accurately gauge the likelihood or severity of a threat, and adapt the security features available in a system to mitigate the threat. This research focuses on the design and development of a security-focused communication protocol at the session-layer based on a re-prioritized communication architecture model and associated metrics. From a probabilistic model that considers data leakage and data corruption as surrogates for breaches of confidentiality and integrity, a set of metrics allows the direct and repeatable quantification of the security available in single- or multi-channel networks. The quantification of security is based directly upon the probabilities that adversarial listeners and malicious disruptors are able to gain access to or change the original message. Fragmenting data across multiple channels demonstrates potential improvements to confidentiality, while duplication improves the integrity of the data against disruptions. Finally, the model and metrics are exercised in simulation. The ultimate goal is to minimize the information available to adversaries

    The emergence of multiple home computers and the need to network them together are dramatically increasing in our society. At the same time, more and more methods of networking home computers are being developed. As our society becomes more reliant on using digital devices in our everyday lives, the possibility of a smart home can actually become a reality. My thesis will research currently available home automation products, and will propose a complete smart home system using current and possible future technologies. It will also include the various services that can be offered via home networking and automation. There are several component areas that must be considered and combined to create the complete system. Some of these areas include communications, device control, temperature, security, and most important, the user interface. One of the main components of the system will be the concept of a console , which will be the primary interface. My thesis will explore different kinds of consoles using existing and proposed technology, how they can be internetworked together to form a complete communications system, and how they can be connected to the outside world. The feasibility of offering home automation services using these consoles is another area that will be explored. For instance, can a home be considered secure if doors and locks are automated and integrated into the smart home? With the smart home, a user should be able to enter the house without a key, solely by communicating with the system. It could even be possible to lock a door from any console within the house, in case the user forgot. I believe the smart home is becoming a reality, and can propel our society into a new way of life as an advanced civilization. My thesis will attempt to provide various ways of making it a reality using current and possible future technologies. Although it will not provide a concrete example of a complete smart home system, that area of expansion exists for future research. Perhaps one day it will become a standard in new home development, and will change how we perform everyday tasks at home
