Unobtrusive and pervasive video-based eye-gaze tracking

    Get PDF
Eye-gaze tracking has long been considered a desktop technology that finds its use inside the traditional office setting, where the operating conditions may be controlled. Nonetheless, recent advancements in mobile technology and a growing interest in capturing natural human behaviour have motivated an emerging interest in tracking eye movements within unconstrained real-life conditions, referred to as pervasive eye-gaze tracking. This critical review focuses on emerging passive and unobtrusive video-based eye-gaze tracking methods in recent literature, with the aim to identify different research avenues that are being followed in response to the challenges of pervasive eye-gaze tracking. Different eye-gaze tracking approaches are discussed in order to bring out their strengths and weaknesses, and to identify any limitations, within the context of pervasive eye-gaze tracking, that have yet to be considered by the computer vision community.peer-reviewe

One of the crucial elements in developing or reformulating product is to maintain the quality throughout its entire shelf life. This study aims to determine the effect of different cooking time on the almond milk-based of lemak cili api gravy. Various cooking times of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 minutes were employed to the almond milk-based lemak cili api gravy followed by determination of their effects on physical properties such as total soluble solids content, pH and colour. pH was determined by using a pH meter. Refractometer was used to evaluate the total soluble solids content of almond milk-based lemak cili api gravy. The colours were determined by using spectrophotometer which expressed as L*, a* and b* values. Results showed that almond milk-based lemak cili api gravy has constant values of total soluble solids with pH range of 5 to 6, which can be classified as low acid food. Colour analysis showed that the lightness (L*) and yellowness (b*) are significantly increased while redness (a*) decreased. In conclusion, this study shows that physical properties of almond milk-based lemak cili api gravy changes by increasing the cooking time

Deep Neural Network and Data Augmentation Methodology for off-axis iris segmentation in wearable headsets

A data augmentation methodology is presented and applied to generate a large dataset of off-axis iris regions and train a low-complexity deep neural network. Although of low complexity the resulting network achieves a high level of accuracy in iris region segmentation for challenging off-axis eye-patches. Interestingly, this network is also shown to achieve high levels of performance for regular, frontal, segmentation of iris regions, comparing favorably with state-of-the-art techniques of significantly higher complexity. Due to its lower complexity, this network is well suited for deployment in embedded applications such as augmented and mixed reality headsets

Direction Estimation Model for Gaze Controlled Systems

    Get PDF
Detection of gaze requires estimation of the position and the relation between user’s pupil and glint. This position is mapped into the region of interest using different edge detectors by detecting the glint coordinates and further gaze direction. In this research paper, a Gaze Direction Estimation (GDE) model has been proposed for the comparative analysis of two standard edge detectors Canny and Sobel for estimating automatic detection of the glint, its coordinates and subsequently the gaze direction. The results indicate fairly good percentage of the cases where the correct glint coordinates and subsequently correct gaze direction quadrants have been estimated. These results can further be used for improving the accuracy and performance of different eye gaze based systems

University of Missouri--Kansas City, 2020As a practical pursuit of quantified uniqueness, biometrics explores the parameters that make us who we are and provides the tools we need to secure the integrity of that identity. In our culture of constant connectivity, an increasing reliance on biometrically secured mobile devices is transforming them into a target for bad actors. While no system will ever prevent all forms of intrusion, even state of the art biometric methods remain vulnerable to spoof attacks. As these attacks become more sophisticated, ocular motion based presentation attack detection (PAD) methods provide a potential deterrent. This dissertation presents the methods and evaluation of a novel optokinetic nystagmus (OKN) based PAD system for mobile device applications which leverages phase-locked temporal features of a unique reflexive behavioral response. Background is provided for historical and literary context of eye motion and ocular tracking to provide context to the objectives and accomplishments of this work. An evaluation of the improved methods for sample processing and sequential stability is provided with highlights for the presented improvements to the stability of convolutional facial landmark localization, and automated spatiotemporal feature extraction and classification models. Insights gleaned from this work are provided to elucidate some of the major challenges of mobile ocular motion feature extraction, as well as additional future considerations for the refinement and application of OKN motion signatures as a novel mobile device based PAD method.Introduction -- Retrospective, Contextual and Contemporary analysis -- Experimental Design -- Methods and Results -- Discussion -- Conclusion
