    Treatment of imprecision in data repositories with the aid of KNOLAP

    Traditional data repositories introduced for the needs of business processing, typically focus on the storage and querying of crisp domains of data. As a result, current commercial data repositories have no facilities for either storing or querying imprecise/ approximate data. No significant attempt has been made for a generic and applicationindependent representation of value imprecision mainly as a property of axes of analysis and also as part of dynamic environment, where potential users may wish to define their “own” axes of analysis for querying either precise or imprecise facts. In such cases, measured values and facts are characterised by descriptive values drawn from a number of dimensions, whereas values of a dimension are organised as hierarchical levels. A solution named H-IFS is presented that allows the representation of flexible hierarchies as part of the dimension structures. An extended multidimensional model named IF-Cube is put forward, which allows the representation of imprecision in facts and dimensions and answering of queries based on imprecise hierarchical preferences. Based on the H-IFS and IF-Cube concepts, a post relational OLAP environment is delivered, the implementation of which is DBMS independent and its performance solely dependent on the underlying DBMS engine

    Parents Preference for Students’ Choice of Urban Schools in Benin City, Nigeria: Integrated AHP Intuitionistic Fuzzy Topsis

    The paper examines the attributes considered by parents for school choice enrolment for their children and wards. Four classes of school alternatives with twelve attributes were considered in this work. A survey was randomly carried out in the three Local government areas in Benin City. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was adopted  in evaluating the attributes, while intuitionistic fuzzy TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to the Ideal Solution) was applied in the ranking of the alternatives. In adopting the method two metric functions were used with both producing same result indicating consistency and correctness of results. The Missionary schools (A4) is the most preferred of the 4 alternative schools, closely followed by private schools for middle class (A2) as second best preferred and the premier private schools for the elite (A3) is third best preferred. While, the Public (government) schools (A1) is bracing the rear as least preferred of all the 4 alternatives. It is concluded that adopting scientific approach to humanistic system is appropriate and produces accuracy in results.Keyword: School choice, intuitionistic fuzzy TOPSIS and attribute

    Evaluation of learning management systems using interval valued intuitionistic fuzzy-z numbers

    The use of online education tools has increased rapidly with the transition to distance education caused by the pandemic. The obligation to carry out all activities of face-to-face education online made it very important for the tools used in distance education to meet the increasing needs. In line with these needs, radical changes have occurred in the learning management systems used in distance education. Therefore, in this study, it is aimed to determine the features that the systems used in distance education should have and to compare the existing systems according to these features.     SELECTION OF FORKLIFT UNIT FOR TRANSPORT HANDLING USING INTEGRATED MCDM UNDER NEUTROSOPHIC ENVIRONMENT

    In material handling, warehousing, manufacturing and construction applications, forklifts are vital equipment, which are used to engage, lift and move palletized items. So, selection of the most appropriate forklift is an essential task for transportation of materials in warehouses for optimal use of the equipment. The present treatise introduces a well-known multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) technique, namely fully consistent method (FUCOM) under neutrosophic environment (NE) to model and solve the problem of selecting the best forklift for warehouse. In this regard, the linguistic assessments of the criteria have been represented in terms of single valued triangular neutrosophic numbers (SVTNNs). A novel triangular neutrosphic score function and ranking function are also proposed. To calculate criteria weights, a novel SVTN linear programming problem (SVTNLPP) has been developed. The alternatives have been ranked through multi-objective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis (MOORA). The robustness, consistency and reliability of the proposed integrated method have been checked through comparative and sensitivity analyses. This study makes a significant contribution by developing an original integrated model which provides warehousing system managers a quantifiable analysis, based on which they may make future decisions in order to improve the overall efficiency of the organization in transport handling

    Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Methods Application in Supply Chain Management: A Systematic Literature Review

    Over the last decade, a large number of research papers, certified courses, professional development programs and scientific conferences have addressed supply chain management (SCM), thereby attesting to its significance and importance. SCM is a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem because throughout its process, different criteria related to each supply chain (SC) activity and their associated sub-criteria must be considered. Often, these criteria are conflicting in nature. For their part, MCDM methods have also attracted significant attention among researchers and practitioners in the field of SCM. The aim of this chapter is to conduct a systematic literature review of published articles in the application of MCDM methods in SCM decisions at the strategic, tactical and operational levels. This chapter considers major SC activities such as supplier selection, manufacturing, warehousing and logistics. A total of 140 published articles (from 2005 to 2017) were studied and categorized, and gaps in the literature were identified. This chapter is useful for academic researchers, decision makers and experts to whom it will provide a better understanding of the application of MCDM methods in SCM, at various levels of the decision-making process, and establish guidelines for selecting an appropriate MCDM method for managing SC activities

    Location Planning of Urban Distribution Center under Uncertainty: A Case Study of Yogyakarta Special Region Province, Indonesia

    Purpose: The paper aims at proposing a framework of hybrid spatial-fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making and demonstrating application of the framework to evaluate and select the appropriate location for Urban Distribution Center in Yogyakarta Special Region Province, Indonesia. The study has been inspired by the need to evaluate the Urban Distribution Center initiative, i.e., Jogja Inland Port by local government that has been hampered due to lack of participating companies. Design/methodology/approach: The proposed framework consists of two steps of analysis. First, spatial analysis to generate alternative locations using weighted Geographical Information System data; second, fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making to select the best location. Fuzzy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution was applied to deal with multi-criteria, multiple stakeholders, and uncertainty. Accessibility, security, connectivity of multi-modal transport, costs, environmental impact, proximity to customers, proximity to suppliers, resource availability, expansion possibility, service quality, are taken as the decision criteria. Local government of Yogyakarta province, practitioners, and logistic expert, are involved as representative participants in evaluating the Urban Distribution Center location of Yogyakarta Special Region Province. Findings: The proposed framework has indicated that the Jogja Inland Port is not the best alternative. A joint warehouse managed by a group of private companies located in Berbah (Sleman district) appears to be the best alternative location for Urban Distribution Center. Consistent results are also found by using other approaches (Intuitionistic Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution and Set Pair Analysis). Research limitations/implications: In addition to the government, expert, and practitioners that involved in this study, future research could engage local residents as decision makers to refine the results, as various stakeholders may come up with different preferences. Practical implications: From a practical point of view, the application of combined approach (integrating spatial analysis using weighted Geographical Information System data and fuzzy multi-criteria decision making) is a promising approach in dealing with Urban Distribution Center location problem which is characterized by multi-criteria, multiple stakeholders, spatial-related issues, and uncertainty. Social implications: The unsuccessful establishment of Jogja Inland Port implies that Urban Distribution Center location problem is a complex system, involving multifaceted factors that should be considered simultaneously. Originality/value: The research proposes a framework to evaluate and select the appropriate location for Urban Distribution Center through combined approach of weighted Geographical Information System data and fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making which involves relevant stakeholders.Peer Reviewe

    Decision models for supplier selection in industry 4.0 era: a systematic literature review

    Industry 4.0 comprises the application of different technological solutions so that business processes throughout the production chain are integrated. The supplier’s selection, considering the industry 4.0 requirements, is essential in promoting collaborative strategies between suppliers and manufacturers. In this context, this study presents a systematic literature review about quantitative models to support supplier selection in the industry 4.0 era. Fourteen studies were reviewed and characterized in different perspectives such as modelling, application, and validation of the decision model. The results revealed that most of the decision models were developed combining multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) with Artificial Intelligence (AI). Among the criteria related to the Industry 4.0 environment, the most frequent ones were information sharing, technological capacity, digital collaboration and engagement.     International entrepreneurial startups' location under uncertainty through a heterogeneous multi-layer decision-making approach:Evidence and application of an emerging economy

    Purpose: Science and technology parks (STPs) have a limited capacity, which can create challenging conditions for applicants. This makes the location selection a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem to find and apply for the most appropriate STP with the highest accordance with the startup's requirements. This research aims to select the most appropriate STP to locate an international entrepreneurial pharmaceutical startup under uncertainty. Since drugs are generally produced domestically in developing countries such as Iran, the access of pharmaceutical startups to the resources provided by STPs can lead to overcoming competitors and improving the country's health system. Design/methodology/approach: In this research, the factors or attributes effective on startup location were extracted through a two-round Delphi method, which was performed among 15 experts within three groups. Subsequently, the determining factors were used to select the location of a pharmaceutical startup among possible STPs. In this regard, decision-makers were allowed to use different types of numbers to transfer their opinion. Afterward, the heterogeneous weighted aggregated sum product assessment (HWASPAS) method was applied to calculate the score of each alternative and rank them to place the studied startup successfully. Findings: The results indicated that Tehran STP stands in the first place; however, if the decision was made based on single criterion like cost, some other STPs could be preferable, and many managers would lose this choice. Furthermore, the results of the proposed method were close to other popular heterogeneous MCDM approaches. Originality/value: A heterogeneous WASPAS is developed in this article for the first time to enable international entrepreneurs to imply their opinion with various values and linguistic variables to reduce the emphasis on accurate data in an uncertain environment
