International Standard ISO 9001 - An Artificial Intelligence View

    Get PDF
ISO 9001 is recognized as a Quality Management Systems standard, i.e., it is the primary phase of a process of constant enhancement that will provide an organisation with the necessary management tools to improve working practices. Indeed, it provides a framework and a set of principles aimed at ensuring a common sense approach to the management of an organization in order to consistently satisfy customers and other stakeholders. Therefore, and in order to add value to ISO 9001, this work focuses on the development of a decision support system, which will allow companies to be able to meet the needs of customers by fulfilling requirements that reflect either the effectiveness or the non-effectiveness of an organization. The procedures for knowledge representation and reasoning used are based on an extension to the Logic Programming language, allowing the handling of incomplete, contradictory and even forbidden data, information and/or knowledge. The computational framework is centred on Artificial Neural Networks to evaluate customer’s satisfaction and the degree of confidence that one has on such a happening

Standardization Framework for Sustainability from Circular Economy 4.0

    Get PDF
The circular economy (CE) is widely known as a way to implement and achieve sustainability, mainly due to its contribution towards the separation of biological and technical nutrients under cyclic industrial metabolism. The incorporation of the principles of the CE in the links of the value chain of the various sectors of the economy strives to ensure circularity, safety, and efficiency. The framework proposed is aligned with the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development regarding the orientation towards the mitigation and regeneration of the metabolic rift by considering a double perspective. Firstly, it strives to conceptualize the CE as a paradigm of sustainability. Its principles are established, and its techniques and tools are organized into two frameworks oriented towards causes (cradle to cradle) and effects (life cycle assessment), and these are structured under the three pillars of sustainability, for their projection within the proposed framework. Secondly, a framework is established to facilitate the implementation of the CE with the use of standards, which constitute the requirements, tools, and indicators to control each life cycle phase, and of key enabling technologies (KETs) that add circular value 4.0 to the socio-ecological transition

How To Build Enterprise Data Models To Achieve Compliance To Standards Or Regulatory Requirements (and share data).

Sharing data between organizations is challenging because it is difficult to ensure that those consuming the data accurately interpret it. The promise of the next generation WWW, the semantic Web, is that semantics about shared data will be represented in ontologies and available for automatic and accurate machine processing of data. Thus, there is inter-organizational business value in developing applications that have ontology-based enterprise models at their core. In an ontology-based enterprise model, business rules and definitions are represented as formal axioms, which are applied to enterprise facts to automatically infer facts not explicitly represented. If the proposition to be inferred is a requirement from, say, ISO 9000 or Sarbanes-Oxley, inference constitutes a model-based proof of compliance. In this paper, we detail the development and application of the TOVE ISO 9000 Micro-Theory, a model of ISO 9000 developed using ontologies for quality management (measurement, traceability, and quality management system ontologies). In so doing, we demonstrate that when enterprise models are developed using ontologies, they can be leveraged to support business analytics problems - in particular, compliance evaluation - and are sharable

The purpose of this study was to increase profitability at a management consulting company by applying and improving internal operational excellence. This was accomplished using a case study. In order to overcome the problems, a prioritized plan of actions was developed by identifying the main sources of improvement. TQM strategies and the requirements of the ISO 9001: 2015 standard are followed. It was possible to observe some benefits on efficiency outcomes and small changes can provide to a company through large steps towards greater results. In a long-term perspective and considering that the performance and efficiency of the commercial has increased.publishe

Developing ISO 9001:2000 System: Applied Study on the Faculty of Computers and Information Technology

Applying ISO 9001:2000 in organization by using manual way faced many problems through the implementation process and beyond such as heavy loads of paperwork for management and documentations, unnecessary testing and documentation procedures and the need for a good communications system. This paper develops a web based-system by analyzing the manual system of applying ISO 9001:2000 in Faculty of Computers and Information Technology in King Abdulaziz University. The developed software facilitate applying ISO 9001:2000 in the organization by supporting all the basic processes, and it avoids the difficulties encountered in the manual way and provides more control in the documentation processes

Industry 4.0 as a Key Enabler toward Successful Implementation of Total Quality Management Practices

    Get PDF
Industry 4.0 refers to the new technological development occurred at the industrial production systems. It evolved as a result of integrating Internet of Things, Cyber-Physical Systems, Big-Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Cloud Computing in the industrial systems. This integration aided new capabilities to achieve a higher level of business excellence, efficiency, and effectiveness. Total Quality Management (TQM) is a managerial approach to achieve an outstanding business excellence. There are several approaches to apply TQM principles at any organization. Industry 4.0 could be utilized as a key enabler for TQM especially by integrating its techniques with the TQM best practices. This paper suggests a theoretical framework for integrating Industry 4.0 features with the TQM principles (according to ISO 9000:2015 standards family) in order to open the door for further research to address the real impact of utilizing Industry 4.0 for serving the TQM implementation approaches

Purpose: Using regression analysis, the paper aims to clarify the relationship between innovation and creativity, innovation and quality management, and creativity and quality management. Design/methodology/approach – The paper opted for an exploratory study using regression analysis to find relations between innovation and creativity, innovation and quality management, and creativity and quality management, using data complemented Global Innovation Index and Creativity index and ISO 9001 standards certificate issued in European countries.  Findings – The paper provides statistical insights about the relations between innovation and creativity, innovation and quality management, and creativity and quality management. It suggests that successful business organizations should invest in innovation, creativity, and quality management to achieve competitive advantage. Research limitations/implications – Because of the chosen research approach, the research results may need extended periods of investigation, therefore, researchers are encouraged to test the proposed propositions further. Practical implications – The paper includes implications for the development of a powerful tool combining innovation, creativity, and quality management, achieving a competitive advantage.  Originality/value – This paper fulfills for the first time under a regression analysis an identified need to study how innovation, creativity, and quality management are related strongly between them. Practical / Industrial value: The outcome of the research stresses the value of investing in innovation, creativity, and quality management to achieve a competitive advantage, considering the importance of soft factors of production (entrepreneurship and innovation) as much important as hard factors of production (labor, land, and capital) too. &nbsp
