[EN] Genetic Algorithms (GAs) are introduced to tackle the packing problem. The scheduling in Additive Manufacturing (AM) is also dealt with to set up a managed market, called “Lonja3D”. This will enable to determine an alternative tool through the combinatorial auctions, wherein the customers will be able to purchase the products at the best prices from the manufacturers. Moreover, the manufacturers will be able to optimize the production capacity and to decrease the operating costs in each case. This research has been partially financed by the project: “Lonja de Impresión 3D para la Industria 4.0 y la Empresa Digital (LONJA3D)” funded by the Regional Government of Castile and Leon and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF, FEDER) with grant VA049P17Castillo-Rivera, S.; De Antón, J.; Del Olmo, R.; Pajares, J.; López-Paredes, A. Cell Formation Heuristic Procedure Considering Production Data

[EN] Manufacturing cell formation is one of foremost, and critical aspect of any manufacturing cell design problem. A large number of cell formation methods are developed and still counting. Consideration of production data in cell formation makes these methods more complex and tedious. In this paper an attempt has been made to develop a simple, easy to understand and implement cell formation procedure, having the capability to handle production data viz. operation sequence, production volume, and inter-cell movement cost simultaneously. The results obtained from proposed procedures are in tune with some highly complex methods, which validates the performance of proposed procedure. To demonstrate its ability to handle other production parameters with little modifications, a modification for consideration to part processing cost in addition to above mentioned production data is developed and explained. Towards the end the procedure to handle alternate process plans in conjugation with production data by the proposed cell formation procedure is also discussed.Kumar, S.; Sharma, RK. (2014). Comparison of Different Parameters to Evaluate Delamination in Edge Trimming of Basalt Fiber Reinforced Plastics (BFRP)

[EN] Delamination is one of the main problems that occur when machining fiber-reinforced composite materials. In this work, Types I and II of delamination are studied separately in edge trimming of basalt fiber reinforced plastic (BFRP). For this purpose, one-dimensional and area delamination parameters are defined. One-dimensional parameters (Wa and Wb) allow to know average fibers length while the analysis of area delamination parameters (Sd) allow to evaluate delamination density. To study delamination, different tests are carried out modifying cutting parameters (cutting speed, feed per tooth and depth of cut) and material characteristics (fiber volume fraction and fiber orientation). Laminates with a lower fiber volume fraction do not present delamination. Attending to one-dimensional parameters it can be concluded that Type II delamination is more important than Type I and that a high depth of cut generates higher values of delamination parameters. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) is performed to study area parameters. Although delamination has a random nature, for each depth of cut, more influence variables in area delamination are firstly, feed per tooth and secondly, cutting speed. This research was funded by Government of Spain, grant number PID2019-108807RB-I00.Navarro-Mas, M.; Meseguer, M.; Lluch-Cerezo, J.; García Manrique, JA. Evaluation of different heat transfer conditions on an automotive turbocharger

This paper presents a combination of theoretical and experimental investigations for determining the main heat fluxes within a turbocharger. These investigations consider several engine speeds and loads as well as different methods of conduction, convection, and radiation heat transfer on the turbocharger. A one-dimensional heat transfer model of the turbocharger has been developed in combination with simulation of a turbocharged engine that includes the heat transfer of the turbocharger. Both the heat transfer model and the simulation were validated against experimental measurements. Various methods were compared for calculating heat transfer from the external surfaces of the turbocharger, and one new method was suggested. The effects of different heat transfer conditions were studied on the heat fluxes of the turbocharger using experimental techniques. The different heat transfer conditions on the turbocharger created dissimilar temperature gradients across the turbocharger. The results show that changing the convection heat transfer condition around the turbocharger affects the heat fluxes more noticeably than changing the radiation and conduction heat transfer conditions. Moreover, the internal heat transfers from the turbine to the bearing housing and from the bearing housing to the compressor are significant, but there is an order of magnitude difference between these heat transfer rates. The Swedish Energy Agency and KTH Royal Institute of Technology sponsored this work within the Competence Centre for Gas Exchange (CCGEx).Aghaali, H.; Angström, H.; Serrano Cruz, JR. Identifying and classifying attributes of packaging for customer satisfaction-A Kano Model Approach

[EN] The packaging industry in India is predicted to grow at 18% annually. In recent years Packaging becomes a potential marketing tool. The marketer should design the packaging of high quality from customer perspective.  As the research in the area of packaging is very few, study of quality attributes of Packaging is the need of the hour and inevitable. An empirical research was conducted by applying Kano Model. The researcher is interested to find out the perception of the customers on 22 quality attributes of packaging. 500 respondents which were selected randomly were asked about their experience of packing on everyday commodities through a well-structured questionnaire.  The classification of attribute as must-be quality, one-dimensional quality, attractive quality, indifferent quality and reverse quality was done by three methods. Marketer should make a note of it and prioritise the attributes for customer satisfaction.Dash, SK. (2021). This is an author's accepted manuscript of an article published in: “Journal of Promotion Management"; Volume 21, Issue 4, 2015; copyright Taylor & Francis; available online at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/10496491.2015.1051407This research provides insight on the mechanisms through which knowledge acquired through promotional events and through spatial co-location simultaneously sustains firm s innovation. Applying the concept of temporary clusters to promotional events, we simultaneously test how internal resources mediating effect and promotional events moderating role affect innovation in clusters. Regression analyses with nonparametric bootstrapping and a large sample of Spanish clusters confirm the synergies derived from the combination of internal resources, local relationships, and complementary foreign events. Although extra-cluster linkages increase this effect, synergies creation requires attendance to international exhibitions or conventions. Valuable implications for practitioners and policy makers are discussed.Belso Martínez, JA.; Mas Verdú, F.; Roig Tierno, H. (2015). Modeling of the Thermal Field in Dissimilar Alloy Ultrasonic Welding

    Get PDF
This paper describes a finite element model for predicting the temperature field in high power ultrasonic welding aluminum AA6111 to two dissimilar alloys, magnesium AZ31, and low carbon steel DC04. Experimental thermocouple and other evidence are used to infer the magnitude and distribution of the heat input to the workpiece, as a function of time, for each of the material combinations welded. The resulting temperature histories are used to predict the growth of intermetallic phases at the interface in Al-Mg welds. The microstructural model successfully predicts the thickness of the intermetallic layer, but the sensitivity of the results to temperature is demonstrated. The work described in this paper was funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) via the following grants: Friction Joining - Low Energy Manufacturing for Hybrid Structures in Fuel Efficient Transport Applications (EP/ G022402/1 and EP/G022674/1), and LATEST 2: Light Alloys Towards Environmentally Sustainable Transport, 2nd Generation Solutions for Advanced Metallic Systems (EP/H020047/1).
