Stabilizability for nonautonomous linear parabolic equations with actuators as distributions

The stabilizability of a general class of abstract parabolic-like equations is investigated, with a finite number of actuators. This class includes the case of actuators given as delta distributions located at given points in the spatial domain of concrete parabolic equations. A stabilizing feedback control operator is constructed and given in explicit form. Then, an associated optimal control is considered and the corresponding Riccati feedback is investigated. Results of simulations are presented showing the stabilizing performance of both explicit and Riccati feedbacks.Comment: 7 figure

Stabilization of infinite-dimensional linear control systems by POD reduced-order Riccati feedback

    Get PDF
There exist many ways to stabilize an infinite-dimensional linear autonomous control systems when it is possible. Anyway, finding an exponentially stabilizing feedback control that is as simple as possible may be a challenge. The Riccati theory provides a nice feedback control but may be computationally demanding when considering a discretization scheme. Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) offers a popular way to reduce large-dimensional systems. In the present paper, we establish that, under appropriate spectral assumptions, an exponentially stabilizing feedback Riccati control designed from a POD finite-dimensional approximation of the system stabilizes as well the infinite-dimensional control system

Existence, uniqueness, and stabilization results for parabolic variational inequalities

In this paper we consider feedback stabilization for parabolic variational inequalities of obstacle type with time and space depending reaction and convection coefficients and show exponential stabilization to nonstationary trajectories. Based on a Moreau--Yosida approximation, a feedback operator is established using a finite (and uniform in the approximation index) number of actuators leading to exponential decay of given rate of the state variable. Several numerical examples are presented addressing smooth and nonsmooth obstacle functions

On the Fattorini Criterion for Approximate Controllability and Stabilizability of Parabolic Systems

In this paper, we consider the well-known Fattorini's criterion for approximate controllability of infinite dimensional linear systems of type y=Ay+Buy'=A y+Bu. We precise the result proved by H. O. Fattorini in \cite{Fattorini1966} for bounded input BB, in the case where BB can be unbounded or in the case of finite-dimensional controls. More precisely, we prove that if Fattorini's criterion is satisfied and if the set of geometric multiplicities of AA is bounded then approximate controllability can be achieved with finite dimensional controls. An important consequence of this result consists in using the Fattorini's criterion to obtain the feedback stabilizability of linear and nonlinear parabolic systems with feedback controls in a finite dimensional space. In particular, for systems described by partial differential equations, such a criterion reduces to a unique continuation theorem for a stationary system. We illustrate such a method by tackling some coupled Navier-Stokes type equations (MHD system and micropolar fluid system) and we sketch a systematic procedure relying on Fattorini's criterion for checking stabilizability of such nonlinear systems. In that case, the unique continuation theorems rely on local Carleman inequalities for stationary Stokes type systems

Stabilization to trajectories for parabolic equations

    Get PDF
Both internal and boundary feedback exponential stabilization to trajectories for semilinear parabolic equations in a given bounded domain are addressed. The values of the controls are linear combinations of a finite number of actuators which are supported in a small region. A condition on the family of actuators is given which guarantees the local stabilizability of the control system. It is shown that a linearization-based Riccati feedback stabilizing controller can be constructed. The results of numerical simulations are presented and discussed.acceptedVersionPeer reviewe
