A descriptive handbook for the audio/CTE splitter/interleaver (RCA part No. 8673734-502) was presented. This unit is designed to perform two major functions: extract audio and time data from an interleaved video/audio signal (splitter section), and provide a test interleaved video/audio/CTE signal for the system (interleaver section). It is a rack mounting unit 7 inches high, 19 inches wide, 20 inches deep, mounted on slides for retracting from the rack, and weighs approximately 40 pounds. Turbo-detected unequal protection audio and speech transceivers using serially concatenated convolutional codes, trellis coded modulation and space-time trellis coding
The MPEG-4 TwinVQ audio codec and the AMR-WB speech codec are investigated in the context of a jointly optimised turbo transceiver capable of providing unequal error protection. The transceiver advocated consists of serially concatenated Space-Time Trellis Coding (STTC), Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) and two different-rate Non-Systematic Convolutional codes (NSCs) used for unequal error protection. A benchmarker scheme combining STTC and a single-class protection NSC is used for comparison with the proposed scheme. The audio and speech performance of both schemes is evaluated, when communicating over uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channels. An value of about 2.5 (3.5)~dB is required for near-unimpaired audio (speech) transmission, which is about 3.07 (4.2)~dB from the capacity of the system
How Push-To-Talk Makes Talk Less Pushy
This paper presents an exploratory study of college-age students using
two-way, push-to-talk cellular radios. We describe the observed and reported
use of cellular radio by the participants. We discuss how the half-duplex,
lightweight cellular radio communication was associated with reduced
interactional commitment, which meant the cellular radios could be used for a
wide range of conversation styles. One such style, intermittent conversation,
is characterized by response delays. Intermittent conversation is surprising in
an audio medium, since it is typically associated with textual media such as
instant messaging. We present design implications of our findings.Comment: 10 page
Extraction and Classification of Self-consumable Sport Video Highlights
This paper aims to automatically extract and classify self-consumable sport video highlights. For this purpose, we will emphasize the benefits of using play-break sequences as the effective inputs for HMM-based classifier. HMM is used to model the stochastic pattern of high-level states during specific sport highlights which correspond to the sequence of generic audio-visual measurements extracted from raw video data. This paper uses soccer as the domain study, focusing on the extraction and classification of goal, shot and foul highlights. The experiment work which uses183 play-break sequences from 6 soccer matches will be presented to demonstrate the performance of our proposed scheme
Turbo-Detected Unequal Protection MPEG-4 Audio Transceiver Using Convolutional Codes, Trellis Coded Modulation and Space-Time Trellis Coding
A jointly optimised turbo transceiver capable of providing unequal error protection is proposed for employment in an MPEG-4 aided audio transceiver. The transceiver advocated consists of Space-Time Trellis Coding (STTC), Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) and two different-rate Non-Systematic Convolutional codes (NSCs) used for unequal error protection. A benchmarker scheme combining STTC and a single-class protection NSC is used for comparison with the proposed scheme. The audio performance of the both schemes is evaluated when communicating over uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channels. It was found that the proposed unequal protection turbo-transceiver scheme requires about two dBs lower transmit power than the single-class turbo benchmarker scheme in the context of the MPEG-4 audio transceiver, when aiming for an effective throughput of 2 bits/symbol, while exhibiting a similar decoding complexity
