QoS routing in ad-hoc networks using GA and multi-objective optimization
Much work has been done on routing in Ad-hoc networks, but the proposed routing solutions only deal with the best effort data traffic. Connections with Quality of Service (QoS) requirements, such as voice channels with delay and bandwidth constraints, are not supported. The QoS routing has been receiving increasingly intensive attention, but searching for the shortest path with many metrics is an NP-complete problem. For this reason, approximated solutions and heuristic algorithms should be developed for multi-path constraints QoS routing. Also, the routing methods should be adaptive, flexible, and intelligent. In this paper, we use Genetic Algorithms (GAs) and multi-objective optimization for QoS routing in Ad-hoc Networks. In order to reduce the search space of GA, we implemented a search space reduction algorithm, which reduces the search space for GAMAN (GA-based routing algorithm for Mobile Ad-hoc Networks) to find a new route. We evaluate the performance of GAMAN by computer simulations and show that GAMAN has better behaviour than GLBR (Genetic Load Balancing Routing).Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
Fuzzy based load and energy aware multipath routing for mobile ad hoc networks
Routing is a challenging task in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) due to their dynamic topology and lack of central administration. As a consequence of un-predictable topology changes of such networks, routing protocols employed need to accurately capture the delay, load, available bandwidth and residual node energy at various locations of the network for effective energy and load balancing. This paper presents a fuzzy logic based scheme that ensures delay, load and energy aware routing to avoid congestion and minimise end-to-end delay in MANETs. In the proposed approach, forwarding delay, average load, available bandwidth and residual battery energy at a mobile node are given as inputs to a fuzzy inference engine to determine the traffic distribution possibility from that node based on the given fuzzy rules. Based on the output from the fuzzy system, traffic is distributed over fail-safe multiple routes to reduce the load at a congested node. Through simulation results, we show that our approach reduces end-to-end delay, packet drop and average energy consumption and increases packet delivery ratio for constant bit rate (CBR) traffic when compared with the popular Ad hoc On-demand Multipath Distance Vector (AOMDV) routing protocol
Improving the performance of QoS models in MANETs through interference monitoring and correction
Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) have been proposed for a wide variety of applications, some of which require the support of real time and multimedia services. To do so, the network should be able to offer quality of service (QoS) appropriate for the latency and throughput bounds to meet appropriate real time constraints imposed by multimedia data. Due to the limited resources such as bandwidth in a wireless medium, flows need to be prioritised in order to guarantee QoS to the flows that need it. In this research, we propose a scheme to provide QoS guarantee to high priority flows in the presence of other high as well as low priority flows so that both type of flows achieve best possible throughput and end-to-end delays. Nodes independently monitor the level of interference by checking the rates of the highest priority flows and signal corrective mechanisms when these rates fall outside of specified thresholds. This research investigates using simulations the effects of a number of important parameters in MANETs, including node speed, pause time, interference, and the dynamic monitoring and correction on system performance in static and mobile scenarios. In this report we show that the dynamic monitoring and correction provides improved QoS than fixed monitoring and correction to both high priority and low priority flows in MANETs
An Overview of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks for the Existing Protocols and Applications
Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is a collection of two or more devices or nodes
or terminals with wireless communications and networking capability that
communicate with each other without the aid of any centralized administrator
also the wireless nodes that can dynamically form a network to exchange
information without using any existing fixed network infrastructure. And it's
an autonomous system in which mobile hosts connected by wireless links are free
to be dynamically and some time act as routers at the same time, and we discuss
in this paper the distinct characteristics of traditional wired networks,
including network configuration may change at any time, there is no direction
or limit the movement and so on, and thus needed a new optional path Agreement
(Routing Protocol) to identify nodes for these actions communicate with each
other path, An ideal choice way the agreement should not only be able to find
the right path, and the Ad Hoc Network must be able to adapt to changing
network of this type at any time. and we talk in details in this paper all the
information of Mobile Ad Hoc Network which include the History of ad hoc,
wireless ad hoc, wireless mobile approaches and types of mobile ad Hoc
networks, and then we present more than 13 types of the routing Ad Hoc Networks
protocols have been proposed. In this paper, the more representative of routing
protocols, analysis of individual characteristics and advantages and
disadvantages to collate and compare, and present the all applications or the

Joint QoS multicast routing and channel assignment in multiradio multichannel wireless mesh networks using intelligent computational methods
Copyright @ 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. In this paper, the quality of service multicast routing and channel assignment (QoS-MRCA) problem is investigated. It is proved to be a NP-hard problem. Previous work separates the multicast tree construction from the channel assignment. Therefore they bear severe drawback, that is, channel assignment cannot work well with the determined multicast tree. In this paper, we integrate them together and solve it by intelligent computational methods. First, we develop a unified framework which consists of the problem formulation, the solution representation, the fitness function, and the channel assignment algorithm. Then, we propose three separate algorithms based on three representative intelligent computational methods (i.e., genetic algorithm, simulated annealing, and tabu search). These three algorithms aim to search minimum-interference multicast trees which also satisfy the end-to-end delay constraint and optimize the usage of the scarce radio network resource in wireless mesh networks. To achieve this goal, the optimization techniques based on state of the art genetic algorithm and the techniques to control the annealing process and the tabu search procedure are well developed separately. Simulation results show that the proposed three intelligent computational methods based multicast algorithms all achieve better performance in terms of both the total channel conflict and the tree cost than those comparative references. This work was supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of UK under Grant EP/E060722/1
Multihop Routing in Ad Hoc Networks
This paper presents a dual method of closed-form analysis and lightweight
simulation that enables an evaluation of the performance of mobile ad hoc
networks that is more realistic, efficient, and accurate than those found in
existing publications. Some features accommodated by the new analysis are
shadowing, exclusion and guard zones, and distance-dependent fading. Three
routing protocols are examined: least-delay, nearest-neighbor, and
maximum-progress routing. The tradeoffs among the path reliabilities, average
conditional delays, average conditional number of hops, and area spectral
efficiencies are examined.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, to appear in IEEE Military Commun. Conf.
