The cost of developing and operating control and automation systems is a crucial factor of productivity and competitiveness for a number of applications in manufacturing plants, quality control systems and robotics. This paper has been focused on practical use of technologies that provided significant cost reduction in operating automated systems for a variety of industrial applications and buildings/facilities operations in Kosovo. Topics that have been discussed were as following: key technologies reducing cost of automation systemsindustrial applications of variety technologies, such as smart devices, wireless sensors and control systems, field robots, etc.cost reducing engineering strategies as well as simulation of manufacturing systems and processes form cost estimation

Assessment of Society\u27s Awareness, Acceptance, and Demand for Robotic Wait Staff in Restaurant Operations

    Get PDF
This research study consists of an assessment of participants\u27 awareness of robotics in general and also their acceptance and consumer demand for mobile, humanoid robots in the role of robotic waiters in restaurants. The study also includes the awareness and consumer demand for Microsoft Surface Computers to be potentially used as restaurant tables capable of electronic order entry, payment, and entertainment. The social impacts of such high technology upon the human occupation of waiter or waitress were also examined relative to the resistance to automation from current human wait staff. The overall results of the study were luke-warm demand for robotic waiters, strong demand for Microsoft Surface Computers, and resistance to robotic waiters among most wait staff

    Anthropomorphic Objects

This thesis exhibition is the culmination of an exploration of the uncanny through sculptures that evoke the sensation of a living presence. Each sculpture is also intended to convey some character or personality, and to this end, my work is influenced by puppetry. Though the works are human sized, they function as puppets in that they are posable and can be used for performance, but they are also robotic in that they have some autonomous motion and some reactive motion. My sculptures are based on the human form because the human form is at once most uncanny and also most relatable. Relatability is an important aspect of my work, as I use my humanoid sculptures to create playful interactive experiences for viewers, experiences that hinge on the uncanny and the illusion of presence

An Ontology-Based Expert System for the Systematic Design of Humanoid Robots
