    Human Motion Trajectory Prediction: A Survey

    With growing numbers of intelligent autonomous systems in human environments, the ability of such systems to perceive, understand and anticipate human behavior becomes increasingly important. Specifically, predicting future positions of dynamic agents and planning considering such predictions are key tasks for self-driving vehicles, service robots and advanced surveillance systems. This paper provides a survey of human motion trajectory prediction. We review, analyze and structure a large selection of work from different communities and propose a taxonomy that categorizes existing methods based on the motion modeling approach and level of contextual information used. We provide an overview of the existing datasets and performance metrics.     Content-based retrieval of visual information

    In this dissertation, I investigate new approaches relevant to content-based image retrieval techniques. First, the MOD paradigm is proposed, a method for detecting salient points in images. These salient points are specifically designed to enhance image retrieval accuracy by maximizing distinctiveness. Second, the multi-dimensional maximum likelihood similarity measure is presented, which removes a critical limitation in prior research in this area and provides an improved method of comparing image features. Third, a texture classification method based on low dimensional constructed texture features is introduced which have very low computational complexity and would be suitable for real time video understanding or interactive search of very large image databases.     Based on the information provided by European projects and national initiatives related to multimedia search as well as domains experts that participated in the CHORUS Think-thanks and workshops, this document reports on the state of the art related to multimedia content search from, a technical, and socio-economic perspective. The technical perspective includes an up to date view on content based indexing and retrieval technologies, multimedia search in the context of mobile devices and peer-to-peer networks, and an overview of current evaluation and benchmark inititiatives to measure the performance of multimedia search engines. From a socio-economic perspective we inventorize the impact and legal consequences of these technical advances and point out future directions of research

    Capture, modeling and recognition of expert technical gestures in wheel-throwing art of pottery

    International audienceThis research has been conducted in the context of the ArtiMuse project that aims at the modeling and renewal of rare gestural knowledge and skills involved in the traditional craftsmanship and more precisely in the art of the wheel-throwing pottery. These knowledge and skills constitute the Intangible Cultural Heritage and refer to the fruit of diverse expertise founded and propagated over the centuries thanks to the ingeniousness of the gesture and the creativity of the human spirit. Nowadays, this expertise is very often threatened with disappearance because of the difficulty to resist to globalization and the fact that most of those "expertise holders" are not easily accessible due to geographical or other constraints. In this paper, a methodological framework for capturing and modeling gestural knowledge and skills in wheel-throwing pottery is proposed. It is based on capturing gestures using wireless inertial sensors and statistical modeling. In particular, we used a system that allows for online alignment of gestures using a modified Hidden Markov Model. This methodology is implemented into a Human-Computer Interface, which permits both the modeling and recognition of expert technical gestures. This system could be used to assist in the learning of these gestures by giving continuous feedback in real-time by measuring the difference between expert and learner gestures. The system has been tested and evaluated on different potters with a rare expertise, which is strongly related to their local identity

    Improved Behavior Monitoring and Classification Using Cues Parameters Extraction from Camera Array Images

    Behavior monitoring and classification is a mechanism used to automatically identify or verify individual based on their human detection, tracking and behavior recognition from video sequences captured by a depth camera. In this paper, we designed a system that precisely classifies the nature of 3D body postures obtained by Kinect using an advanced recognizer. We proposed novel features that are suitable for depth data. These features are robust to noise, invariant to translation and scaling, and capable of monitoring fast human bodyparts movements. Lastly, advanced hidden Markov model is used to recognize different activities. In the extensive experiments, we have seen that our system consistently outperforms over three depth-based behavior datasets, i.e., IM-DailyDepthActivity, MSRDailyActivity3D and MSRAction3D in both posture classification and behavior recognition. Moreover, our system handles subject's body parts rotation, self-occlusion and body parts missing which significantly track complex activities and improve recognition rate. Due to easy accessible, low-cost and friendly deployment process of depth camera, the proposed system can be applied over various consumer-applications including patient-monitoring system, automatic video surveillance, smart homes/offices and 3D games
