Factors affecting e-Learning effectiveness in a higher learning institution in Malaysia
The purpose of this research was to investigate factors that influence the effectiveness of the e-learning system in a higher learning institution. The participants were students randomly selected from diploma and degree programs. The main instrument was a questionnaire that was distributed to the students. The researchers collected 205 completed questionnaires out of a total of 300. Four factors were chosen as independent variables namely: reaction and satisfaction,learning outcome and achievement, familiarity with online learning technology, and participation and interaction. It was found that the effectiveness of the e-learning system was significantly affected by reaction and satisfaction, learning outcome and achievement, and familiarity with online learning technology. The participation and interaction factor had no apparent effect on the effectiveness of the e-learning system. Therefore, it is recommended that higher learning
institutions interested in introducing e-learning should focus on students’ reaction and satisfaction towards the system.E-learning should focus on learning outcomes and achievement. It is also recommended that institutions first look into the issue of familiarity with online learning technology among students before introducing the e-learning system so as to determine whether students are comfortable with the online learning tools

Satellite-enabled interactive education: scenarios and systems architectures
There are specific sectors of the economy that can benefit from satellite-based tele-education. Areas, such as maritime and agriculture, share common needs for both broadband connectivity at remote geographical areas that cannot otherwise be covered, and for innovative content for tele-education purposes. Furthermore, each area has special requirements with regard to the type of content to be delivered. In this paper we propose a set of architectural designs and case scenarios that will realise such interactive end-to-end education systems based on satellite communications. Services requirements in this setting are also identified and discussed
Learning with E's: putting technology in its place
The topic of e-learning is the focus of much current interest within education and industry. to decrease the use of computers within education made by Cordes and. Miller (2000), for example, we need to avoid the temptation to pay too much attention to the technology and too little attention to the learners, teachers and their context. The future design challenge we face is the development of interactive educational content that enables learners to bridge the gap between the operational and conceptual levels of their interactive experience and engage with the concepts of the discipline being studied. The technology challenge is building a platform for the delivery of this content through existing and emerging technology and in multiple contexts. The theoretical challenge and potential pedagogical benefits lay in the development of a central pedagogical framework. In order to address these challenges we need to reflect on our progress to date, to assess the evidence for the effectiveness of e-learning and to identify what works and why
