Power quality problem makes the consumer un satisfy.  FACTS devices such as UPQC are such devices to avoid power quality problems. This paper proposed an efficient hysteresis controller and fuzzy controller for unified power quality conditioner. In this harmonics and voltage fluctuations were dealed by UPQC with hysteresis control strategy. The performance of the control strategy applied unified power quality conditioner on distribution system checked with and without UPQC. And the performances of these two controllers of UPQC are compared. This strategy makes the industries to get pure power and to avoid the disturbances from polluted distribution system. The proposed dynamic model was developed in MATLAB/SIMULINK. Keywords: power quality, voltage fluctuations, harmonics, hysteresis controller, fuzzy controller

Increased penetration of small scale renewable energy sources in the electrical distribution network, improvement of power quality has become more critical than where the current harmonics or disturbances and level of voltage can vary widely. For this reason, Custom Power Devices (CPDs) such as the Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) can be the most appropriate solution used for improving the dynamic performance of the distribution network, where accurate prior knowledge may not be available. Therefore, the main objectives are (i) placement (ii) integration (iii) capacity enhancement and (iv) real time control of the Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) to improve the power quality of a distributed generation (DG) network connected to the grid or microgrid. A new integration method of the UPQC has been developed: helps to the DGs to deliver quality of power in the case of islanding and help to reintegrate with the grid seamlessly post fault. It perform both control operation such as Detection of Islanding and reconnection techniques, hence, it is termed UPQC?G. The DG Inverter with storage supplies the active fundamental power only and the shunt part of the UPQC compensates the reactive and harmonic power of the load during both interconnected and islanding mode

Mitigation of Power Quality Problems Using Custom Power Devices: A Review

    Get PDF
Electrical power quality (EPQ) in distribution systems is a critical issue for commercial, industrial and residential applications. The new concept of advanced power electronic based Custom Power Devices (CPDs) mainly distributed static synchronous compensator (D-STATCOM), dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) and unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) have been developed due to lacking the performance of traditional compensating devices to minimize power quality disturbances. This paper presents a comprehensive review on D-STATCOM, DVR and UPQC to solve the electrical power quality problems of the distribution networks. This is intended to present a broad overview of the various possible DSTATCOM, DVR and UPQC configurations for single-phase (two wire) and three-phase (three-wire and four-wire) networks and control strategies for the compensation of various power quality disturbances. Apart from this, comprehensive explanation, comparison, and discussion on D-STATCOM, DVR, and UPQC are presented. This paper is aimed to explore a broad prospective on the status of D-STATCOMs, DVRs, and UPQCs to researchers, engineers and the community dealing with the power quality enhancement. A classified list of some latest research publications on the topic is also appended for a quick reference

Automotive three-microphone voice activity detector and noise-canceller

This paper addresses issues in improving hands-free speech recognition performance in car environments. A three-microphone array has been used to form a beamformer with leastmean squares (LMS) to improve Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). A three-microphone array has been paralleled to a Voice Activity Detection (VAD). The VAD uses time-delay estimation together with magnitude-squared coherence (MSC)

Orbit transfer rocket engine integrated control and health monitoring system technology readiness assessment

The objectives of this task were to: (1) estimate the technology readiness of an integrated control and health monitoring (ICHM) system for the Aerojet 7500 lbF Orbit Transfer Vehicle engine preliminary design assuming space based operations; and (2) estimate the remaining cost to advance this technology to a NASA defined 'readiness level 6' by 1996 wherein the technology has been demonstrated with a system validation model in a simulated environment. The work was accomplished through the conduct of four subtasks. In subtask 1 the minimally required functions for the control and monitoring system was specified. The elements required to perform these functions were specified in Subtask 2. In Subtask 3, the technology readiness level of each element was assessed. Finally, in Subtask 4, the development cost and schedule requirements were estimated for bringing each element to 'readiness level 6'
