Learning from AI : new trends in database technology

Recently some researchers in the areas of database data modelling and knowledge representations in artificial intelligence have recognized that they share many common goals. In this survey paper we show the relationship between database and artificial intelligence research. We show that there has been a tendency for data models to incorporate more modelling techniques developed for knowledge representations in artificial intelligence as the desire to incorporate more application oriented semantics, user friendliness, and flexibility has increased. Increasing the semantics of the representation is the key to capturing the "reality" of the database environment, increasing user friendliness, and facilitating the support of multiple, possibly conflicting, user views of the information contained in a database

The design and implementation of an adaptive e-learning system

This paper describes the design and implementation of an adaptive e-learning system that provides a template for different learning materials as well as a student model that incorporates five distinct student characteristics as an aid to learning: primary characteristics are prior knowledge, learning style and the presence or absence of animated multimedia aids (multimedia mode); secondary characteristics include page background preference and link colour preference. The use of multimedia artefacts as a student characteristic has not previously been implemented or evaluated. The system development consists of a requirements analysis, design and implementation. The design models including use case diagrams, conceptual design, sequence diagrams, navigation design and presentation design are expressed using Unified Modelling Language (UML). The adaptive e-learning system was developed in a template implemented using Java Servlets, XHTML, XML, JavaScript and HTML. The template is a domain-independent adaptive e-learning system that has functions of both adaptivity and adaptability

Twitter for University using Cloud

In this paper, we present a project that would provide twitter like website for a university purpose intended to use by the students, professors of the colleges in the University and a University Admin. The University admin will provide with all the necessary notifications regarding the events in the University for the students and professors like result notifications, timetables, events, fees, important dates, etc. The students and staff can follow the University Admin and get the necessary notifications just by logging into their accounts and viewing their home pages. Moreover, this project would be deployed on the cloud which would make this website available 24x7 and will reduce the overhead cost of maintaining the expensive servers for the University. This project aims at utilizing the social networking and technology for educational purposes and to improve the student-teacher interaction off the classroom.
