The world of e-commerce presents ample opportunity to fully utilise the capability of intelligent Agents. The highly dynamic, fast- moving and information-rich environment can often be overwhelming for the human participant. Agents can intelligently assist users by mimicking human behaviour and adapting themselves to their client’s specification. This thesis presents an e-commerce framework that would introduce negotiation techniques which allows sellers and buyers to trade using Case Base Reasoning techniques as well as being proactive in remembering users’ requests and autonomously monitoring vendor sites for new items that might match the users’ needs and preferences. It observes the users whilst shopping and learns their preferences with respect to various features that characterise shopping items.peer-reviewe

Recommender system for predicting student performance

AbstractRecommender systems are widely used in many areas, especially in e-commerce. Recently, they are also applied in e-learning tasks such as recommending resources (e.g. papers, books,..) to the learners (students). In this work, we propose a novel approach which uses recommender system techniques for educational data mining, especially for predicting student performance. To validate this approach, we compare recommender system techniques with traditional regression methods such as logistic/linear regression by using educational data for intelligent tutoring systems. Experimental results show that the proposed approach can improve prediction results

Resumen de la ponencia[EN] In the transition to the digital economy, the implementation of e-commerce strategies contributes to foster economic growth and obtain competitive advantages. Indeed, national and supranational statistics offices monitor the adoption of e-commerce solutions by conducting periodic surveys to businesses. However, the information about e-commerce adoption is often available online in each company corporate website, which is usually public and suitable for being automatically retrieved and processed. In this context, this work proposes and develops an intelligent system for automatically detecting and monitoring e-commerce availability by analyzing data retrieved from corporate websites. This system combines web scraping techniques with some learning methods for Big Data, and has been evaluated with a data set consisting of 426 corporate websites of manufacturing firms based in France and Spain. Results show that the proposed model reaches a classification precision of about 85% in the test set. A more detailed analysis evidences that websites with e-commerce tend to include some specific keywords and have a private area. Our proposal opens up the opportunity to monitor e-commerce adoption at a large scale, with highly granular information that otherwise would have required every firm to complete a survey.Blázquez Soriano, MD.; Domenech, J.; Gil, JA.; Pont Sanjuan, A. Binary Particle Swarm Optimization based Biclustering of Web usage Data

Web mining is the nontrivial process to discover valid, novel, potentially useful knowledge from web data using the data mining techniques or methods. It may give information that is useful for improving the services offered by web portals and information access and retrieval tools. With the rapid development of biclustering, more researchers have applied the biclustering technique to different fields in recent years. When biclustering approach is applied to the web usage data it automatically captures the hidden browsing patterns from it in the form of biclusters. In this work, swarm intelligent technique is combined with biclustering approach to propose an algorithm called Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) based Biclustering for Web Usage Data. The main objective of this algorithm is to retrieve the global optimal bicluster from the web usage data. These biclusters contain relationships between web users and web pages which are useful for the E-Commerce applications like web advertising and marketing. Experiments are conducted on real dataset to prove the efficiency of the proposed algorithms

The Potential for Using Artificial Intelligence Techniques to Improve e-Learning Systems

There has been significant progress in the development of techniques to deliver more effective e-Learning systems in both education and commerce but our research has identified very few examples of comprehensive learning systems that exploit contemporary artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. We have surveyed existing intelligent learning/training systems and explored the contemporary AI techniques which appear to offer the most promising contributions to e-Learning. We have considered the non-technological challenges to be addressed and considered those factors which will allow step change progress. With the convergence of several of the required components for success increasingly in place we believe that the opportunity to make this progress is now much stronger. We present a description of the fundamental components of an adaptive learning system designed to fulfill the objectives of the teacher and to develop a close relationship with the learner, monitoring and adjusting the teaching based upon a wide variety of analyses of their knowledge and performance. This is an important area for future research with the opportunity to deliver significant value to both education and commerce. The development of improved learning systems in conjunction with trainers, teachers and subject matter experts will provide benefits to educational institutions and help commercial organisations to face critical challenges in the training, development and retention of the key skills required to address new, emerging technologies and business models.Final Accepted Versio
