Chaotic multi-objective optimization based design of fractional order PI{\lambda}D{\mu} controller in AVR system
In this paper, a fractional order (FO) PI{\lambda}D\mu controller is designed
to take care of various contradictory objective functions for an Automatic
Voltage Regulator (AVR) system. An improved evolutionary Non-dominated Sorting
Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA II), which is augmented with a chaotic map for
greater effectiveness, is used for the multi-objective optimization problem.
The Pareto fronts showing the trade-off between different design criteria are
obtained for the PI{\lambda}D\mu and PID controller. A comparative analysis is
done with respect to the standard PID controller to demonstrate the merits and
demerits of the fractional order PI{\lambda}D\mu controller.Comment: 30 pages, 14 figure
Evolutionary algorithms based tuning of PID controller for an AVR system
In this paper, an evolutionary algorithm based optimization algorithm is proposed with new objective function to design a PID controller for the automatic voltage regulator (AVR) system. The new objective function is proposed to improve the transient response of the AVR control system and to obtain the optimal values of controller gain. In this paper, particle swarm optimization (PSO) and cuckoo search (CS) algorithms are proposed to tune the parameters of a PID controller for the control of AVR system. Simulation results are capable and illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Numerical and simulation results based on the proposed tuning approach on PID control of an AVR system for servo and regulatory control show the excellent performance of PSO and CS optimization algorithms
Design of Intelligent PID Controller for AVR System Using an Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System
This paper presents a hybrid approach involving signal to noise ratio (SNR) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) for design the optimal and intelligent proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller of an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) system with uses an adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). In this paper determined optimal parameters of PID controller with SNR-PSO approach for some events and use these optimal parameters of PID controller for design the intelligent PID controller for AVR system with ANFIS. Trial and error method can be used to find a suitable design of anfis based an intelligent controller. However, there are many options including fuzzy rules, Membership Functions (MFs) and scaling factors to achieve a desired performance. An optimization algorithm facilitates this process and finds an optimal design to provide a desired performance. This paper presents a novel application of the SNRPSO approach to design an intelligent controller for AVR. SNR-PSO is a method that combines the features of PSO and SNR in order to improve the optimize operation. In order to emphasize the advantages of the proposed SNR-PSO PID controller, we also compared with the CRPSO PID controller. The proposed method was indeed more efficient and robust in improving the step response of an AVR system and numerical simulations are provided to verify the effectiveness and feasibility of PID controller of AVR based on SNRPSO algorithm.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i5.652
Frequency Domain Design of Fractional Order PID Controller for AVR System Using Chaotic Multi-objective Optimization

The final version is available from Elsevier via the DOI in this record.A fractional order (FO) PID or FOPID controller is designed for an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) system with the consideration of contradictory performance objectives. An improved evolutionary Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II), augmented with a chaotic Henon map is used for the multi-objective optimization based design procedure. The Henon map as the random number generator outperforms the original NSGA-II algorithm and its Logistic map assisted version for obtaining a better design trade-off with an FOPID controller. The Pareto fronts showing the trade-offs between the different design objectives have also been shown for both the FOPID controller and the conventional PID controller to enunciate the relative merits and demerits of each. The design is done in frequency domain and hence stability and robustness of the design is automatically guaranteed unlike the other time domain optimization based controller design methods
Objective functions modification of GA optimized PID controller for brushed DC motor
PID Optimization by Genetic Algorithm or any intelligent optimization method is widely being used recently. The main issue is to select a suitable objective function based on error criteria. Original error criteria that is widely being used such as ITAE, ISE, ITSE and IAE is insufficient in enhancing some of the performance parameter. Parameter such as settling time, rise time, percentage of overshoot, and steady state error is included in the objective function. Weightage is added into these parameters based on users’ performance requirement. Based on the results, modified error criteria show improvement in all performance parameter after being modified. All of the error criteria produce 0% overshoot, 29.51%-39.44% shorter rise time, 21.11%-42.98% better settling time, 10% to 53.76% reduction in steady state error. The performance of modified objective function in minimizing the error signal is reduced. It can be concluded that modification of objective function by adding performance parameter into consideration could improve the performance of rise time, settling time, overshoot percentage, and steady state erro
Modern Optimization Techniques for PID Parameters of Electrohydraulic Servo Control System
Electrohydraulic servo system has been used in industry in a wide number of applications. Its dynamics are highly nonlinear and also have large extent of model uncertainties and external disturbances. In order to in-crease the reliability, controllability and utilizing the superior speed of response achievable from electrohydraulic systems, further research is required to develop a control software has the ability of overcoming the problems of system nonlinearities. In This paper, a Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller is designed and attached to electrohydraulic servo actuator system to control its stability. The PID parameters are optimized by using four techniques: Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Bacteria Foraging Algorithm (BFA), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and Ant colony optimization (ACO). The simulation results show that the steady-state error of system is eliminated; the rapidity is enhanced by PSO applied on Proportional Integral Derivative (PPID), Bacteria Foraging Algorithm applied on Proportional Integral Derivative (BPID), GA applied on Proportional Integral Derivative (GPID), and ACO Algorithm applied on Proportional Integral Derivative (ACO-PID) controllers when the system parameter variation was happened, and has good performances using in real applications. A Novel Fractional Order Fuzzy PID Controller and Its Optimal Time Domain Tuning Based on Integral Performance Indices
A novel fractional order (FO) fuzzy Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID)
controller has been proposed in this paper which works on the closed loop error
and its fractional derivative as the input and has a fractional integrator in
its output. The fractional order differ-integrations in the proposed fuzzy
logic controller (FLC) are kept as design variables along with the input-output
scaling factors (SF) and are optimized with Genetic Algorithm (GA) while
minimizing several integral error indices along with the control signal as the
objective function. Simulations studies are carried out to control a delayed
nonlinear process and an open loop unstable process with time delay. The closed
loop performances and controller efforts in each case are compared with
conventional PID, fuzzy PID and PI{\lambda}D{\mu} controller subjected to
different integral performance indices. Simulation results show that the
proposed fractional order fuzzy PID controller outperforms the others in most
