    The applications of ultrasonic sensor

    Ultrasonic sensor usually used for distance measurement and obstacles detection. This sensor is low cost and suitable for range up to few metres for distance measurement applications. However, this sensor has limitations which are wide beam width and sensitivity to the mirror – like surfaces. Despite the disadvantages, there are several applications of these sensors such as wireless obstacle detection, collision control and avoidance, distance measurement and smart parking system. Each of the applications has difference approaches suggested by the researchers. Baharuddin M et al. proposed that in order to give a reliable distance measurement, both infrared and ultrasonic sensors are used together [1]. This paper discussed about four applications of ultrasonic sensors in details which are wireless obstacle detection, collision control and avoidance, distance measurement and smart parking system

    Performance enhancement of direct torque control induction motor drive using space vector modulation strategy

    Purpose. The main objective of this work is to demonstrate the advantages brought by the use of space vector modulation technique in the direct torque control of the induction motor. To achieve this purpose, two different direct torque control approaches (with space vector modulation) are proposed and studied from a comparative aspect with each other and with the conventional direct torque control. The novelty of this work consists in the employment of an Integral-Proportional (IP) speed controller in the two proposed direct torque control approaches and a more in-depth evaluation for their performance mainly the switching frequency of inverter semiconductor components and motor torque ripples. Methods. Two different direct torque control approaches that use the space vector modulation strategy and/or fuzzy-logic control, are described in detail and simulated with IP speed controller. The simulation experiments are carried out using Matlab/Simulink software and/or fuzzy-logic tools. Results. Practical value. Comparison results show that the two proposed direct torque control structures (with space vector modulation) exhibit a large reduction in torque ripples and can also avoid random variation problem of switching frequency (over a wide range of speed or torque control). On the other hand, the use of IP speed regulator ensured good dynamic performance for the drive system as well as considerably minimized peak overshoot in the speed response. Practically all of these benefits are achieved while retaining the simplicity and the best dynamic characteristics of the classical direct torque control, especially with the modified direct torque control approach in which the design or implementation requires minimal computational effort.Мета. Основна мета даної роботи – продемонструвати переваги використання методу модуляції просторового вектора при прямому регулюванні крутного моменту асинхронного двигуна. Для досягнення цієї мети запропоновано два різних підходи до прямого управління крутним моментом (з модуляцією просторового вектора), які досліджуються з порівняльної точки зору  одного з іншим, а також зі звичайним прямим керуванням крутним моментом. Новизна роботи полягає у використанні інтегрально-пропорційного (IП) регулятора швидкості в двох запропонованих підходах до прямого регулювання крутного моменту та більш поглибленій оцінці їх ефективності, головним чином, частоти перемикань напівпровідникових компонентів інвертора та пульсації крутного моменту двигуна. Методи. Два різних підходи до прямого керування крутним моментом, які використовують стратегію модуляції просторового вектора та/або керування нечіткою логікою, детально описані та змодельовані за допомогою ІП-регулятора швидкості. Обчислювальні експерименти проводяться з використанням програмного забезпечення Matlab/Simulink та/або інструментів нечіткої логіки. Результати. Практична цінність. Результати порівняння показують, що дві запропоновані структури прямого керування крутним моментом (з модуляцією просторового вектора) демонструють значне зниження пульсації крутного моменту, а також можуть уникнути проблеми випадкових змін частоти перемикання (у широкому діапазоні регулювання швидкості або крутного моменту). З іншого боку, використання ІП-регулятора швидкості забезпечило хороші динамічні характеристики для приводної системи, а також значно знизило пікове перевищення швидкості. Практично всі ці переваги досягаються при збереженні простоти та найкращих динамічних характеристик класичного прямого керування крутним моментом, особливо з модифікованим підходом прямого керування крутним моментом, при якому проектування або впровадження вимагає мінімальних обчислювальних витрат

    Theory of differential inclusions and its application in mechanics

    The following chapter deals with systems of differential equations with discontinuous right-hand sides. The key question is how to define the solutions of such systems. The most adequate approach is to treat discontinuous systems as systems with multivalued right-hand sides (differential inclusions). In this work three well-known definitions of solution of discontinuous system are considered. We will demonstrate the difference between these definitions and their application to different mechanical problems. Mathematical models of drilling systems with discontinuous friction torque characteristics are considered. Here, opposite to classical Coulomb symmetric friction law, the friction torque characteristic is asymmetrical. Problem of sudden load change is studied. Analytical methods of investigation of systems with such asymmetrical friction based on the use of Lyapunov functions are demonstrated. The Watt governor and Chua system are considered to show different aspects of computer modeling of discontinuous systems

    High –Performance using Neural Networks in Direct Torque Control for Asynchronous Machine

    This article investigates solution for the biggest problem of the Direct Torque Control on the asynchronous machine to have the high dynamic performance with very simple hysteresis control scheme. The Conventional Direct Torque Control (CDTC) suffers from some drawbacks such as high current, flux and torque ripple, as well as flux control at very low speed. In this paper, we propose an intelligent approach to improve the direct torque control of induction machine which is an artificial neural networks control. The principle, the numerical procedure and the performances of this method are presented.  Simulations results show that the proposed ANN-DTC strategy effectively reduces the torque and flux ripples at low switching frequency, compared with Fuzzy Logic DTC and The Conventional DTC

    International audienceThis paper describes active fault-tolerant control systems for a high-performance induction-motor drive that propels an electrical vehicle (EV) or a hybrid one (HEV). The proposed systems adaptively reorganize themselves in the event of sensor loss or sensor recovery to sustain the best control performance, given the complement of remaining sensors. Moreover, the developed systems take into account the controller-transition smoothness, in terms of speed and torque transients. The two proposed fault-tolerant control strategies have been simulated on a 4-kW induction-motor drive, and speed and torque responses have been carried to evaluate the consistency and the performance of the proposed approaches. Simulation results, in terms of speed and torque responses, show the global effectiveness of the proposed approaches, particularly the one based on modern and intelligent control techniques in terms of speed and torque smoothness

    Induction Motors (IMs) are now becoming the pillar of almost all the motoring applications related to the industry and household. The practical applications of IMs usually require constant motoring speed. As a result, different types of control systems for IM's speed controlling have been shaped. One of the important techniques is the utilization of thyristor fed drive. Although, the thyristor fed induction motor drive (TFIMD) offers stable speed performance, the practical speed control demand is much more precise. Hence, this drive system utilizes additional controllers to attain precise speed for practical applications. This paper offers a detailed review of the controllers utilized with the thyristor fed IM drive in the past few decades to achieve good speed control performance. The clear intent of the paper is to provide a comprehensible frame of the pros and cons of the existing controllers developed for the TFIMD speed control requirements.
