Greater Space Means More Service: Leveraging the innovative power of architecture and design

    Get PDF
Organizational structures certainly are of great importance in order to determine employees’ behaviour and performance. On the other hand, physical structures also significantly influence the way staff and customers view any company and interact with it. In service based activity, such as in retailing, banking, hospitality, and so, firms and institutions are competing thanks to innovations in products/services, delivery processes, and management styles. Innovative approaches may also materialize into the design of facilities. Service providers are in a position to significantly improve convenience, productivity, and attractiveness by designing space and defining appropriate layout carefully. This pattern also has to include identification of the meanings, characterization of size and qualification of the process by which any service facility delivers messages. In the last session of the paper, we address a particular type of service facilities, namely the buildings of institutions for higher education in management. The objective is then to analyze how facilities have evolved in order to cope with the change affecting business education.Service; innovation; architecture; working place; corporate symbols

    Facilitating Corporate Project Sponsorship

    Get PDF
This report examines how corporate sponsorship of student projects can be facilitated and maintained by L’Haute École de Gestion-Fribourg (HEG-FR) in the new Bachelor of Business Administration in Management & Technology degree program. We interviewed both academics and industry professionals to gain their perspectives on project-based curriculum, isolating the perceived motivators and deterrents of project sponsorship. We then give recommendations on how the HEG-FR can create new and improve existing relationships with sponsors as well as ensure the longevity of the program

PERCEPTION & ROLE OF 3-D VISUALIZATIONS IN PLANNING: A CASE STUDY OF THE NORTHWEST PASSAGE SCENIC BYWAY\u27S VIEWSHED PROTECTION & VISUALIZATION PROJECT

    Get PDF
The use of sophisticated visualization tools and methods, in particular 3-D modeling, has seen a considerable rise in planning throughout the last decade due to continued advancements in 3-D technology, computer hardware, and the internet. The rapid increase in the use of 3-D visualization is supported by the belief that visualizations which imitate human experience help relieve many of the communication problems that exist between experts and lay persons during the planning process and help engage a broader cross-section of the public. However, little understanding exists to support these claims. This research provides a comprehensive investigation of stakeholder perceptions concerning the use of 3-D visualizations in the Northwest Passage Scenic Byway’s (NWPSB) Viewshed Protection and Visualization project. This project, which was conducted by the NWPSB Commission and Advisory Team, provided the perfect opportunity to study the use of several 3-D visualizations including digitally altered photographs and fully interactive 3-D models. Comparisons were made between these types of visualizations which are increasingly being used in the planning process. As the use of 3-D visualization in planning continues to rise in popularity around the world, it is imperative that its utility and appropriateness be understood. Interviews were conducted with stakeholders participating in the NWPSB project to assess the perceptions that individuals held in regard to the use of 3-D visualization. The results of this research show that 3-D visualization is an important component of the planning process that can ultimately enhance an individual’s comprehension of a project and provide an improved means of communication between experts and stakeholders. The majority of stakeholders felt that the digitally altered photographs provided the best means of communication. Project size and scale, the level of realism, and demographic makeup of the communities were identified as influential factors affecting this opinion. This is not to say that the 3-D models do not have any utility in the planning process, in fact the opposite is true. However, in the context of this study where age, technical ability, and the rural character of the communities played an influential role, the use of 3-D was not appropriate

Attaining Sustainability: The American Evolution of Socially Responsible Business Practices

    Get PDF
The focus of this thesis is on the evolution of socially responsible business practices (SRBPs); the historical progression of commercial philanthropy; the current market trends that drive corporate actions; and the projected rise of social responsibility integration within organizational cultures. The purpose of this paper is to provide evidence for how SRBPs contribute to, rather than detract from, the strength and success of American consumer goods companies because of their strategic integration in organizational cultures. In addition to providing a brief historical overview of the evolution of SRBPs, the thesis will highlight how the objectives of SRBPs have continuously advanced with the current goals focusing on long--‐term sustainability (not just financial viability). The final section of the thesis will examine selected companies to explore the pluralism of SRBPs. This will provide a holistic framework to emphasize the importance of involving the private sector in contributing to human development

Gaining Insight into Enterprise 2.0 by Comparing with Web 2.0: Matrix analysis and instrument development

    Get PDF
Emerging Web 2.0 provides an insight into its application to enterprise 2.0 that is currently in an immature state. The effort to apply the successful Web 2.0 to Enterprise 2.0 requires careful analysis of similarity and dissimilarity of “state of the art” social systems such as Web 2.0 and proposed Enterprise 2.0. For this analysis, a knowledge-seeker/sharer paradigm is proposed from the assumption that these two parties may have different perceptions towards the social systems. The paradigm consistently works as a baseline that comparison and contrast of Web 2.0 and Enterprise 2.0 are performed based on. This answer is organized as follows. First, two social systems are compared from knowledge-seekers‟ perspective, knowledge-sharers‟ perspective, and both parties‟ perspective by supporting with relevant literature. Second, two social systems are contrasted from knowledge seekers‟ perspective, knowledge sharers‟ perspective, and both parties‟ perspective by supporting with relevant literature. Third, meaningful implications are suggested from the analyses
