Challenges to describe QoS requirements for web services quality prediction to support web services interoperability in electronic commerce
Quality of service (QoS) is significant and necessary for web service applications quality assurance. Furthermore, web services quality has contributed to the successful implementation of Electronic Commerce (EC) applications. However, QoS is still the big issue for web services research and remains one of the main research questions that need to be explored. We believe that QoS should not only be measured but should also be predicted during the development and implementation stages. However, there are challenges and constraints to determine and choose QoS requirements for high quality web services. Therefore, this paper highlights the challenges for the QoS requirements prediction as they are not easy to identify. Moreover, there are many different perspectives and purposes of web services, and various prediction techniques to describe QoS requirements. Additionally, the paper introduces a metamodel as a concept of what makes a good web service
A usability study of online library systems: A case of Sultanah Bahiyah Library, Universiti Utara Malaysia
The purpose of this study was to investigate usability of online library systems in Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). This study evaluated the usability of Sultanah Bahiyah Library’s web based systems by investigating the aspects of simplicity, comfort, user friendliness, control, readability, information adequacy/task match, navigability, recognition, access time, relevancy, consistency and visual presentation. This study examined user’s views about the usability of digital libraries whereas current and perceived importance. A sample of 45 students of Master of Business Administration (MBA) has been chosen. The Sultanah Bahiyah Library’s web based systems is very important especially for students and academic staffs of Universiti Utara Malaysia. The usability of the Library’s web based systems makes students easy to connect and for that the
website should be helpful and attractive within good contents. The result found that the parallel nature of the users’ current views about the usability of digital libraries and users’ perceived importance of digital library usability allows direct comparison of all usability properties. The overall results yielded significant difference for the variables of user’s current views and perceived importance
Object lessons : a learning object approach to e-learning for social work education
Learning objects are bite-sized digital learning resources designed to tackle the e-learning adoption problem by virtue of their scale, adaptability, and interoperability. The learning object approach advocates the creation of small e-learning resources rather than whole courses: resources that can be mixed and matched; used in a traditional or online learning environment; and adapted for reuse in other discipline areas and in other countries. Storing learning objects within a subject specific digital repository to enable search, discovery, sharing and use adds considerable value to the model. This paper explores the rationale for a learning object approach to e-learning and reflects on early experiences in developing a national learning object repository for social work education in Scotland
Accurate De Novo Prediction of Protein Contact Map by Ultra-Deep Learning Model
Recently exciting progress has been made on protein contact prediction, but
the predicted contacts for proteins without many sequence homologs is still of
low quality and not very useful for de novo structure prediction. This paper
presents a new deep learning method that predicts contacts by integrating both
evolutionary coupling (EC) and sequence conservation information through an
ultra-deep neural network formed by two deep residual networks. This deep
neural network allows us to model very complex sequence-contact relationship as
well as long-range inter-contact correlation. Our method greatly outperforms
existing contact prediction methods and leads to much more accurate
contact-assisted protein folding. Tested on three datasets of 579 proteins, the
average top L long-range prediction accuracy obtained our method, the
representative EC method CCMpred and the CASP11 winner MetaPSICOV is 0.47, 0.21
and 0.30, respectively; the average top L/10 long-range accuracy of our method,
CCMpred and MetaPSICOV is 0.77, 0.47 and 0.59, respectively. Ab initio folding
using our predicted contacts as restraints can yield correct folds (i.e.,
TMscore>0.6) for 203 test proteins, while that using MetaPSICOV- and
CCMpred-predicted contacts can do so for only 79 and 62 proteins, respectively.
Further, our contact-assisted models have much better quality than
template-based models. Using our predicted contacts as restraints, we can (ab
initio) fold 208 of the 398 membrane proteins with TMscore>0.5. By contrast,
when the training proteins of our method are used as templates, homology
modeling can only do so for 10 of them. One interesting finding is that even if
we do not train our prediction models with any membrane proteins, our method
works very well on membrane protein prediction. Finally, in recent blind CAMEO
benchmark our method successfully folded 5 test proteins with a novel fold
