Business and Information Technology Alignment Measurement -- a recent Literature Review
Since technology has been involved in the business context, Business and
Information Technology Alignment (BITA) has been one of the main concerns of IT
and Business executives and directors due to its importance to overall company
performance, especially today in the age of digital transformation. Several
models and frameworks have been developed for BITA implementation and for
measuring their level of success, each one with a different approach to this
desired state. The BITA measurement is one of the main decision-making tools in
the strategic domain of companies. In general, the classical-internal alignment
is the most measured domain and the external environment evolution alignment is
the least measured. This literature review aims to characterize and analyze
current research on BITA measurement with a comprehensive view of the works
published over the last 15 years to identify potential gaps and future areas of

Redesigning work organizations and technologies: experiences from European projects
Currently distributed business process (re) design (resulting in components of business networks) basically relies on technical criteria. And that are the main purposes of most research projects supported by EC. Through the process of building a European Research Area, this means a strong influence in the national research programmes. However it is generally accepted that it should also take into account social criteria and aspects such as the quality of working life, or participation in decision processes. Those were some of the objectives of projects in de 80s decade, and framed some of the main concepts and scientific approaches to work organisation. The democratic participation of network and organisations members in the design process is a critical success factor. This is not accepted by everyone, but is based in sufficient case studies. Nevertheless, in order to achieve an optimization that can satisfying the requirements of agility of a network of enterprises, more complex design methods must be developed. Thus, the support to the collaborative design of distributed work in a network of enterprises, through a concurrent approaching business processes, work organisation and task content is a key factor to achieve such purposes. Problem solving and the co-ordination of innovative activities
In the context of increasingly globalized markets, ever more complex supply chains and international manufacturing networks, corporate decision-making processes involve more and more actors, variables and criteria. This is a challenge for corporate head quarters. Many have argued that the role once attributed to the integrated innovative organisation and its R&D laboratories is increasingly associated with the functioning of networks of specialised innovators. The aim of this paper is to argue that the role of large firms may have changed, but it is far from disappeared. It looks at the interplay of increasing knowledge specialisation, the development of products of increasing complexity that perform a widening range of functionalities, and the emergence and diffusion of new design strategies for both products and organisations, namely modularity. The emergence of modularity as a product and organisational design strategy is clearly connected to recent trends in organisational design. Modularity would allow the decoupling of complex artifacts into simpler, self-contained modules. Each module would, at the extreme, become the sole business of a specialised trade. This paper builds upon the idea that there are cognitive limits to this process of modularisation: what kinds of problems firms solve, and how they solve them, set limits to the extent of division of labour among firms. A comparison of integration architectures
This paper presents GenSIF, a Generic Systems Integration Framework. GenSIF features a pre-planned development process on a domain-wide basis and facilitates system integration and project coordination for very large, complex and distributed systems. Domain analysis, integration architecture design and infrastructure design are identified as the three main components of GenSIF. In the next step we map Beilcore\u27s OSCA interoperability architecture, ANSA, IBM\u27s SAA and Bull\u27s DCM into GenSIF. Using the GenSIF concepts we compare each of these architectures.
GenSIF serves as a general framework to evaluate and position specific architecture. The OSCA architecture is used to discuss the impact of vendor architectures on application development.
