The development of the interactive, collaborative and dynamic e-learning methods is considered the primary mode of evolution of the Romanian and international educational systems. Most of the studies have revealed the widespread benefits of these technologies and exemplifying their applicability and their evolution within the education systems. However, few studies clearly identify the role that e-learning platforms have in the improvement of teaching - learning and how these technologies can be integrated into the classroom. This article proposes a new approach related to the integration of these systems while providing educational acts, starting by identifying and understanding the perceptions that teachers have regarding this type of innovative technology, explaining and interpreting the results of a qualitative research conducted within Romanian educational market. Teacher’s perception on the role of e-learning education is interpreted as a factor, which influences the quality of the use and the integration of these technologies in the Romanian educational environment, reaffirming the need for a coherent implementation of these instruments at a specific school level but also at general educational environment integration

Over the years, there has been an increasing movement toward systemic reform in education. An important element of the educational process that seems to have been overlooked is the need to integrate subjects within some context or major issue. One of the essential components of this integration process is the recognition that expert/knowledge based systems technology can play a fundamental role as a strategic supporting science to help with the integration approach. This paper describes one novel attempt to integrate expert/knowledge based systems throughout the four years of the undergraduate curriculum in the new College of Integrated Science and Technology at James Madison University

Health policy and integrated mental health care in the SADC region : strategic clarification using the Rainbow Model

Background: Mental illness is a well-known challenge to global development, particularly in low-to-middle income countries. A key health systems response to mental illness is different models of integrated health care, especially popular in the South African Development Community (SADC) region. This complex construct is often not well-defined in health policy, hampering implementation efforts. A key development in this vein has been the Rainbow Model of integrated care, a comprehensive framework and taxonomy of integrated care based on the integrative functions of primary care. The purpose of this study was to explore the nature and strategic forms of integrated mental health care in selected SADC countries, specifically how integrated care is outlined in state-driven policies. Methods: Health policies from five SADC countries were analysed using the Rainbow Model as framework. Electronic copies of policy documents were transferred into NVivo 10, which aided in the framework analysis on the different types of integrated mental health care promoted in the countries assessed. Results: Several Rainbow Model components were emphasised. Clinical integration strategies (coordination of person-focused care) such as centrality of client needs, case management and continuity were central considerations, while others such as patient education and client satisfaction were largely lacking. Professional integration (inter-professional partnerships) was mentioned in terms of agreements on interdisciplinary collaboration and performance management, while organisational integration (inter-organisational relationships) emerged under the guise of inter-organisational governance, population needs and interest management. Among others, available resources, population management and stakeholder management fed into system integration strategies (horizontally and vertically integrated systems), while functional integration strategies (financial, management and information system functions) included human resource, information and resource management. Normative integration (a common frame of reference) included collective attitude, sense of urgency, and linking cultures, though aspects such as conflict management, quality features of the informal collaboration, and trust were largely lacking. Conclusions: Most countries stressed the importance of integrating mental health on primary healthcare level, though an absence of supporting strategies could prove to bar implementation. Inter-service collaboration emerged as a significant goal, though a lack of (especially) normative integration dimensions could prove to be a key omission. Despite the usefulness of the Rainbow Model, it failed to adequately frame regional governance aspects of integration, as the SADC Secretariat could play an important role in coordinating and supporting the development and strengthening of better mental health systems

ADDRESSING AI-BASED CAPABILITIES IN SYSTEMS ANALYSIS AND DESIGN: A PEDAGOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

    Get PDF
This paper explores the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) based capabilities into organizational systems with a specific focus on the ways in which increased proliferation of AI affects systems analysis and design (SA&D) pedagogy. Existing IS literature on the links between SA&D and AI capabilities appears to be very limited, and there are only few published papers on the role of AI in IS education in general. This paper explores the reasons why AI capabilities often must be integrated into organizational systems for the organization to gain full benefits from AI and provides an initial analysis of how the inclusion of AI capabilities affects various SA&D activities, including the identification of new types of analysis and design uncertainty caused by AI. The findings suggest that it is essential for the IS community to study the best organizational practices on AI integration into systems projects and use these findings to improve the ways in which we prepare IS students for advanced application of AI in organizational systems

It is of crucial importance the integration of practical sessions in engineering curricula owing to their significant role in understanding engineering concepts and scientific phenomena. However, the lack of practical sessions due to the high costs of the equipment and the unavailability of instructors has caused a significant declination in experimentation in engineering education. Remote laboratories have tackled this issues providing online reusable and shared workbenches unconstrained by neither geographical nor time considerations. Thereby, they have extremely proliferated among universities and integrated into engineering curricula over the last decade. This contribution compiles diverse experiences based on the deployment of the remote laboratory, Virtual Instrument Systems in Reality (VISIR), on the practices of undergraduate engineering grades at various universities within the VISIR community. It aims to show the impact of its usage on engineering education concerning the assessments of students and teachers as well. In addition, the paper address the next challenges and future works carried out at several universities within the VISIR community

[EN] The ongoing development of the high school ecology curricular unit presented in this proposal is a response to the new tide of educational reforms in the United States. This curricular unit represents an attempt to frame K-12 science curriculum around three dimensions: crosscutting concepts, disciplinary core ideas and scientific practices recently released in the report on a Framework for New K-12 Science Education (National Research Council, 2012). Integration of three dimensions into the development of agriculture-related curricular unit reflects complexity and logic inherent in science education facilitating deeper conceptual understanding. The development of this curricular unit takes place under the initiative of the National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project and explores the efficacy of the agriculture-related unit on students’ integrated vision of the human impact on natural systems. Research project seeks to recognize the characteristics that identify research-based curriculum (Clements, 2007). The interdisciplinary nature of this project has the potential to investigate how close adherence to features identifying research-based curriculum can support the development of coherent curricular unit mediating students’ integrated vision of environmental issues. Mediation results of this nature have larger implications on future efficacy studies of curriculum intervention.Ghalichi, N.; Roehrig, G. (2017).
