The current trends in industry include an integration of information and knowledge base network with a manufacturing system, which coined a new term, E-Manufacturing. From the perspective of E-Manufacturing, any production equipment and its control functions do not exist alone, but become a part of the holistic operation system with distant monitoring, remote quality control and fault diagnostic capabilities. The key to this new paradigm is the accessibility to a remotely located system and having the means of responding to a changing environment, which is better suited for today’s rapidly changing environment. In this context, this paper presents an innovative method in part tracking using the Ethernet SmartImage Sensor and the web-controllable SCARA robot. Remote controlling of an automation process using Internet can suffer from time lag, if the network is congested with heavy data traffic, which maybe the greatest hurdle for using Internet for real time control. The approach discussed in this paper overcomes the time lag for part tracking and mathematically calculates the product locations on the conveyor at various instances and efficiently guide the robot to the product. The accuracy of the proposed scheme has been verified, which vindicates the industrial applicability of the setup. The web-enabled robotic operations present many benefits, such as ubiquitous access, remote control, programming, monitoring capabilities, and integration of production equipment into information networks for improved efficiency and quality

Abstract Industrial areas frequently present a high concentration of production operations which are source of anthropic risks. For this reason Smart Public Safety is receiving an increasing attention from industry, research and authorities. Moreover, due the consequences of global warming, these areas could be subject to risk events with increased probability with respect to the past. Information technologies enable an innovative approach towards safety management, which relies on the evolution of tools for environmental monitoring and citizens' interaction. This work presents the preliminary results of the Italian research project SIGMA - sensor Integrated System in cloud environment for the Advanced Multi-risk Management. The proposed system includes a continuous monitoring of the different information sources, thus reducing human control as much as possible. At the same time, the communication system manages multiple data flows in a flexible way, adapting itself to different working scenarios, enabling smarter applications. SIGMA intends to acquire, integrate and compute heterogeneous data, coming from various sensor networks in order to provide useful insights for the monitoring, forecasting and management of risk situations through services provided to citizens and businesses, both public and private. Based on the integration of different interoperating components, the system is able to provide a complete emergency management framework through simulations/optimizations and heterogeneous data manipulation tools. The prototype solution is detailed by a use case application in an industrial area located in the region of Sicily, Italy. In particular, web based modular applications connected through SIGMA allow the monitoring of the industrial environment through data gathering from different sensor networks, such as outdoor sensors mounted in the surroundings of large industrial areas, and support of the design of the logistics network aimed at covering the industrial risks

The need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is leading to an increase in the use of renewable energy sources. Due to the aleatory nature of these sources, to prevent grid imbalances, smart management of the entire system is required. Industrial refrigeration systems represent a source of flexibility in this context: being large electricity consumers, they can allow large-load shifting by varying separator levels or storing surplus energy in the products and thus balancing renewable electricity production. The work aims to model and control an industrial refrigeration system used for freezing food by applying the Model Predictive Control technique. The controller was developed in Matlab® and implemented in a Model-in-the-Loop environment. Two control objectives are proposed: the first aims to minimize total energy consumption, while the second also focuses on utilizing the maximum amount of renewable energy. The results show that the innovative controller allows energy savings and better exploitation of the available renewable electricity, with a 4.5% increase in its use, compared to traditional control methods. Since the proposed software solution is rapidly applicable without the need to modify the plant with additional hardware, its uptake can contribute to grid stability and renewable energy exploitation

© Research India Publications. Modern conditions of functioning of industrial enterprises that are characterized by a high degree of uncertain behavior of the environment, as well as constant increased competition, determine the need for continuous improvement of not just production technologies but also control systems of various aspects of their production and business activities. In this regard, the formation of the system of innovative development of the industrial enterprise becomes a determining condition to further improve its competitiveness. However, the formation of such a system is connected with the need to resolve a number of methodological problems aimed at defining the concept of "the system of innovative development of the enterprise", its place in the system of strategic management of the enterprise, as well as at identifying the main stages of its formation. The article examines the existing approaches to the management of innovative activity of enterprises. Particular attention is paid to the definition of "the system of innovative development of the enterprise". A hierarchy of elements of the system of innovative development of the enterprise is suggested. The position that the system of innovative development of the enterprise must be logically built at all levels of its strategic management, including corporate, business and functional strategies, is substantiated. The steps of forming the system of innovative development of the enterprise that link developed and implemented innovative activities with the goals of the operation of the enterprise at different levels of strategic management are proposed

The main objective of this article is to provide a rationale for mathematical models describing the innovation resonance in industrialized regions. The article presents a thorough analysis of trends in the development of Russian industrialized regions, which is then used as the basis to advance and test several hypotheses, such as the hypothesis of uneven economic development in different types of industrialized regions (regions strengthening their industrial status, newly industrialized regions and deindustrialized regions), hypothesis of individual characteristics in the development of certain types of industrialized regions, hypothesis of the state acting as catalyst in innovation dynamics, hypothesis of innovation resonance existing in economic system. The authors propose the methodology of innovation resonance, describe the conditions required for the emergence of resonance in the economic system, and provide a rationale for the types of resonance response. The main methods used in this article are as follows: resonance control method, reproduction method, methods of economic and mathematical modeling. The authors propose a mathematical formalization for the mechanism of innovation resonance in the regional industrial system, including: a) A model for generating investment by industrial sectors and reproduction sectors; b) Dynamic multi-sector reproduction model; c) Adaptive management model for innovative self-development of the regional industrial system; g) A model for the sustainability of innovation dynamics and expanded reproduction. The authors study the innovation resonance in Russian industrialized regions. In the context of innovation resonance, the authors review the functional industrial policy of a typical industrialized region and resonance responses related to its implementation. The results of the study presented in the article can be used in substantiating the mechanisms of regional industrial policy, and to assess the regulatory impact of existing regulatory and legal acts. This article has been prepared with the financial support of the Grant of the Russian Foundation for Humanities № 13–32–01258 Assessing the Capacity for New Industrialization in Russian Regions
