A Commentary on the Prose Preface and Epigrams 1-20 of Martial Book 12
This PhD thesis provides a commentary for the prefatory epistle and the opening twenty epigrams of Martial Book 12. The texts will be analysed through an interpretative method and focus will be placed upon intra- and intertextual references in order to orientate the work within the broader framework of Ancient literature. Beyond the concentration upon literary allusions, attention will be paid to metrical and philological concerns in order to distinguish Martialâs particular techniques and innovations from conventional or generic usages. Each text will be accompanied with a translation and an introductory essay, which will focus upon the structure, style and content of the text, in order to provide a clear and unambiguous interpretation for each work. A supplementary thematic essay will also be supplied, when it is necessary to pursue particular points that cannot be catered for in the lemmatised entries or the initial essay on the content and structure of each text
Luiz Ruffatoâs Narrative Art Installation: The Multiplicities of \u3ci\u3eEles eram muitos cavalos\u3c/i\u3e
This essay studies the ways in which Amazonian artist Roberto Evangelistaâs art installation Ritos de Passagem served as Brazilian author Luiz Ruffatoâs structural and thematic model for his revolutionary book Eles eram muitos cavalos. According to Ruffatoâs interpretation, Evangelistaâs installation represents a tangible, three-dimensional form that renders socioeconomic hardship and impoverishment within a consumer-ravaged society. In applying this model to Ruffatoâs work of fiction, this essay aims to emphasize his focus on formal and narrative innovations within what Anne Ring Petersen defines as a âmultiperspectival approach.â This approach allows Ruffatoâs text to take on threedimensional volume and invite the participatory action of the viewer/reader

Digital library access for illiterate users
The problems that illiteracy poses in accessing information are gaining attention from the research community. Issues currently being explored include developing an understanding of the barriers to information acquisition experienced by different groups of illiterate information seekers; creating technology, such as software interfaces, that support illiterate users effectively; and tailoring content to increase its accessibility. We have taken a formative evaluation approach to developing and evaluating a digital library interface for illiterate users. We discuss modifications to the Greenstone platform, describe user studies and outline resulting design implications

Proficuo, inutile o dannoso? Alcune riflessioni a partire dal nuovo testo dellâart. 41
The article analyses the new text of Article 41 of the Italian constitution, pointing out its innovative aspects and analysing its shortcomings. Above all, the article argues that the major innovations of the new text are in fact very little innovative, as they can already be deduced through interpretation from the previous text, also in light of the new Article 9. On the other hand, the legislator's choice appears to be not very courageous and, consequently, defective in not having strengthened the position of environmental stakeholders in public decision-making processes
On Investment Law and Questions of Change
This article analyses the various ways in which investment law raises questions of change. It distinguishes between changes in international investment norms, and changes in a host stateâs regulatory system which is subject to the control of such norms, and explains how these different manifestations of change relate to the distinct yet interrelated issues of interpretation and application. The article explains why, given features of the contemporary investment regime, on questions of interpretation, concerning the content of international investment norms, arbitrators operate within wider processes of law-development over which states, as treaty masters, also exercise significant influence. In contrast, arbitrators dominate the process of applying international investment norms to particular investor-state disputes to determine whether changes in a host stateâs regulatory system breach applicable investment norms. This claim is demonstrated in relation to the two most prominent investment treaty standards: fair and equitable treatment, and the protection against indirect expropriation

Ships passing in the night?: re-thinking the relationship between entrepreneurial agency and purposive transitions
In this paper, we examine the ways in which the phenomenon of entrepreneurial agency has been represented in the transitions literature with particular reference to purposive sustainability transitions. The aim of the paper is to encourage critical reflection on the relationship between transitions and entrepreneurship research. We present provisional findings from a content analysis conducted on sample publications, covering historical transitional and contemporary purposive transitions. We find that while entrepreneurial agency is clearly evident in both conceptual and empirical works, there are a number of limitations regarding: i) the role of context in relation to the dynamics of entrepreneurial agency; ii) differences in the types of entrepreneurs engaged in socio-technical transitions and the ways in which they interact with other key actors; iii) the predominantly individualistic interpretation accorded to entrepreneurship in the literature. We also review recent developments in entrepreneurship research, including work on: entrepreneurial opportunity, dynamic capabilities, networks and institutions, and indicate how these ideas might be integrated into transitions research, with reference to two sample studies. In the concluding remarks, we suggest ways in which a closer engagement with entrepreneurial agency might contribute to future transitions research and policy-making
A Cultural Heritage Forum Celebrating Technological Innovation at Station X
We aim to encourage and support public participation in heritage through the development of Cultural Heritage Forums, a kind of cultural web portal that enables active participation of communities of interest in a way that complements rather than replaces visits to physical cultural institutions. The cultural heritage forum described here (Station X) is concerned with promoting an understanding of technology innovation in the areas of computing and cryptography. We propose a number of scenarios concerning how the forum can be designed, drawing on our earlier work in using knowledge modelling and text analysis to support the exploration of digital resources
