    Decoding health and disease pathways drives healthcare evolution. Historically, therapeutic paradigms have relied on interventions that mitigate symptoms of established diseases. Increasingly, molecular insights into pathophysiology now provide unprecedented opportunities to offer curative solutions or even prevent disease and thereby secure longitudinal wellness. These opportunities extend past individual patients to entire populations and geographies. Moreover, they optimize prospective healthspan across lifespan. Linking discovery science and its translatable innovations beyond reactive disease intervention to proactive prevention will maximize society’s returns creating the greatest benefit for the greatest number of people globally

    The objective of the MOSAIC project is to accelerate innovation in Mobile Worker Support Environments. For that purpose MOSAIC develops visions and illustrative scenarios for future collaborative workspaces involving mobile and location-aware working. Analysis of the scenarios is input to the process of road mapping with the purpose of developing strategies for R&D leading to deployment of innovative mobile work technologies and applications across different domains. One of the application domains where MOSAIC is active is health and wellbeing. This paper builds on another paper submitted to this same conference, which presents and discusses health care and wellbeing specific scenarios.     Modeling nature-based and cultural recreation preferences in mediterranean regions as opportunities for smart tourism and diversification

    The tourism and recreational o er of Mediterranean destinations involves, essentially, the promotion of mass tourism, based on the appeal of the sun and beach, and the quality of its coastal assets. Alongside the impacts of climate change, poor tourism diversification represents a threat to the resilience of the territory. Thus, heterogenization of noncoastal tourism products presents an opportunity to strengthen regional resilience to present and future challenges, hence the need to study, comparatively, the complementary preferences of tourists and residents of these regions in order to unveil their willingness to diversify their recreational experience, not only in coastal spaces, but also—and especially—in interior territories with low urban density. Consequently, this strategic option may represent a way of strengthening resilience and sustainability through diversification. In this context, a survey was conducted among 400 beach tourists and 400 residents of a case study—namely, three municipalities of the Algarve region in southern Portugal—in order to analyze their degree of preference for activities besides the sun and beach, such as nature-based and cultural tourism activities, and to probe the enhancement potential of each tourism and recreational activity through the various landscape units considered by experts, stakeholders, and tour operators. The respective degree of preference and enhancement potential were indexed to the area of each landscape unit. Subsequently, respecting the existing recreational structure and constraints, a suitability map for territory enhancement and the implementation of smart tourism practices for each tourism activity and landscape unit is presented.     Towards Evidence Based M-Health Application Design in Cancer Patient Healthy Lifestyle Interventions

    Cancer is one of the most prevalent diseases in Europe and the world. Significant correlations between dietary habits and cancer incidence and mortality have been confirmed by the literature. Physical activity habits are also directly implicated in the incidence of cancer. Lifestyle behaviour change may be benefited by using mobile technology to deliver health behaviour interventions. M-Health offers a promising cost-efficient approach to deliver en-masse interventions. Smartphone apps with constructs such as gamification and personalized have shown potential for helping individuals lose weight and maintain healthy lifestyle habits. However, evidence-based content and theory-based strategies have not been incorporated by those apps systematically yet. The aim of the current work is to put the foundations for a methodologically rigorous exploration of wellness/health intervention literature/app landscape towards detailed design specifications for connected health m-apps. In this context, both the overall work plan is described as well as the details for the significant steps of application space and literature space review. Both strategies for research and initial outcomes of it are presented.     Велнес-туризм как возможность развития территории в условиях постконфликта и пандемии

    The article states about prospects for the development of wellness tourism and the possibilities of wellness to influence the development of the territory in the context of post-conflict and pandemic. The research methodology is applied, combining philosophical and general scientific principles, which are the methodological principles of scientific research and include a number of laws and categories. The research used analytical, statistical, comparative geographical, historical research methods. The article analyzes the origin of the term wellness, its importance and impact on human health. The analysis showed that wellness has a positive effect not only on the physical health of a person, but also on the emotional, spiritual, and mental state of a person. It is shown that today the wellness industry has a global scale, and is rapidly developing, which can contribute to the development of territories affected by military conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic. The article analyzes wellness innovations such as wellness meals, wellness hotels, new technologies in the field of wellness services. The main wellness innovations, their forms, types and specifics, which will allow better transformation of tourist and recreational complexes in order to improve the health of the population, have been systematized. It has been suggested that introduction of the wellness industry and wellness tourism in post-conflict territories will contribute to the improvement of the population's health.В статье говорится о перспективах развития велнес-туризма и о возможностях велнес влиять на развитие территории в условиях постконфликтов и пандемии. Применена методика исследования, сочетающая в себе философские и общенаучные принципы, которые выступают методологическими основами научного исследования и включают ряд законов и категорий. В исследовании использовались аналитический, статистический, сравнительно-географический, исторический методы исследования. Проанализировано происхождение термина «велнес», важность велнеса и его влияние на здоровье человека. Анализ показал, что велнес положительно влияет не только на физическое здоровье человека, но и на эмоциональное, духовное, ментальное состояние человека. Показано, что на сегодняшний день велнес-индустрия имеет глобальные масштабы и стремительно развивается, что может поспособствовать развитию территорий, пострадавших во время военных конфликтов и пандемии COVID-19. Выявлены велнес-инновации, такие как велнес-питание, велнес-отели, новые технологии в сфере велнес-услуг и систематизированы их формы, виды и специфика, которые позволят лучше трансформироваться туристско-рекреационным комплексам с целью оздоровления населения. Предложено широкое внедрение велнес-индустрии и велнес-туризма на постконфликтных территориях, что будет способствовать оздоровлению населения на фоне пандемии и любых глобальных катастроф

    Building the case for actionable ethics in digital health research supported by artificial intelligence

    The digital revolution is disrupting the ways in which health research is conducted, and subsequently, changing healthcare. Direct-to-consumer wellness products and mobile apps, pervasive sensor technologies and access to social network data offer exciting opportunities for researchers to passively observe and/or track patients ‘in the wild’ and 24/7. The volume of granular personal health data gathered using these technologies is unprecedented, and is increasingly leveraged to inform personalized health promotion and disease treatment interventions. The use of artificial intelligence in the health sector is also increasing. Although rich with potential, the digital health ecosystem presents new ethical challenges for those making decisions about the selection, testing, implementation and evaluation of technologies for use in healthcare. As the ‘Wild West’ of digital health research unfolds, it is important to recognize who is involved, and identify how each party can and should take responsibility to advance the ethical practices of this work. While not a comprehensive review, we describe the landscape, identify gaps to be addressed, and offer recommendations as to how stakeholders can and should take responsibility to advance socially responsible digital health research
