Herausforderung soziale Teilhabe: Repair-Cafes als Orte inklusiver nachhaltiger Entwicklung?

In the past few years, debates increasingly emerge that discuss the potential of repair and DIY initiatives to contribute to inclusive and sustainable developments. It is argued that initiatives enable individuals to take responsibility for sustainable consumption. Moreover, they are said to promote citizen empowerment and collaborative practices and therefore strengthening social transformations processes towards sustainability. Currently, there is little research that looks at whether the empowerment of citizen through repair and DIY activities will be inclusive to all people and enable more sustainable consumption patterns. This paper develops first ideas, questions and categories to observe the possibilities and constraints for inclusiveness in repair cafés, enabling collaborative practise and creating seedbeds for social transformations. We draw on a social practice theory approach and normative (evaluation) perspectives for inclusiveness to empirically examine practices in repair cafés through participant observations

Soziologie kapitalistischer Dynamik

Thema des Beitrags ist das „growth miracle“ (William Baumol) des modernen Kapitalismus. Die These ist, dass die historisch völlig einzigartige gesellschaftliche Dynamik des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts sich als „wirtschaftliches Wachstum“ allein nicht zureichend fassen lässt. Ihre Erklärung verlangt vielmehr nach einem genuin soziologischen Ansatz. Zunächst werden die vorliegenden modernisierungstheoretischen Erklärungsversuche kritisch resümiert und eine alternative soziologische Theorieperspektive aufgezeigt, die insbesondere auf die Geldtheorien von Simmel und Marx zurückgreift. Schließlich werden die Grundlinien einer soziologischen Mehrebenenerklärung kapitalistischer Dynamik skizziert. Auf ihrer Grundlage werden drei Wachstumsszenarien – ein positives und zwei negative – skizziert, die zur Erhellung der Hintergründe der aktuellen Wirtschaftskrise beitragen können.I address the „growth miracle“ (William Baumol) of modern capitalism. The central point is that the historically unique social dynamics of modern capitalism cannot be conceptualized satisfactorily by theories of “economic growth”; instead, the explanation requires a genuinely sociological approach. The first part of the paper gives a critical summary of the existing modernization-theoretical approaches and outlines an alternative theoretical perspective which is based largely on the interpretations of money by Simmel and Marx. The second part delivers a multi-level approach of capitalist dynamics which culminates in the construction of three growth scenarios, one positive and two negative ones. These scenarios could contribute to illuminating the background of the actual economic crisis

Gouverner c’est prévoir : foresight als ganzheitlicher Prozess zur strategischen Steuerung am Beispiel des Kantons Aargau

2012 wurde im Kanton Aargau der Prozess zur Erarbeitung des neuen Entwicklungsleitbilds 2013-2022 lanciert. Die Erarbeitung einer langfristigen Planung stellt die Exekutive vor die Herausforderung, in der Gegenwart die notwendigen Weichenstellungen für eine ungewisse Zukunft vorzubereiten, ohne dass dazu eine umfassende faktenbasierte Grundlage besteht. Im Auftrag der Staatskanzlei des Kantons Aargau erarbeitete das Institut für Verwaltungs-Management (IVM, Zürcher Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften) für den Kanton Aargau – zusammen mit internen und externen Experten – eine Perspektivenanalyse. Dazu wurden Denkmodelle und Instrumente der Trend- und Zukunftsforschung auf die spezifischen Aufgaben und Herausforderungen einer kantonalen Verwaltung adaptiert und angewendet. Im Fokus standen dabei Trend-, Szenarien-, und Konsequenzenanalysen. Als Ergebnis wurden zuhanden der Regierung Empfehlungen in den strategischen Handlungsfeldern Gesellschaft, Wirtschaft und Staat formuliert

Dieser Essay zielt - in klarer Unterscheidung gegenüber der kurz anzusprechenden soziologischen Untersuchung von Nachhaltigkeitskonzepten und -diskursen sozialer Akteure - darauf ab, die analytische Struktur und den begrifflich noch eindeutig bestimmbaren Gehalt des Konzepts einer nachhaltigen Entwicklung auf allgemeiner Ebene möglichst präzise herauszuarbeiten, ohne auf spezifische typische Problemstellungen (z.B. die Vereinbarkeit von Wirtschaftswachstum und nachhaltiger Entwicklung) einzugehen. Das Konzept sustainable development wird daher im Hinblick auf folgende Gesichtspunkte erörtert: seine formale Begrifflichkeit (Begriffs- und Konzeptanalyse), Herausarbeitung seiner zentralen Bezugsdimensionen (Belastungsgrenzen, Verteilungsgerechtigkeit, Umsetzungsstrategien), Darstellung der Struktur möglicher substantieller Aussagen (Negativbestimmung, formale Orientierung, situative Ausfüllung, trade-offs), Beschreibung seiner substantiellen Dimensionen (ökologische, soziale, wirtschaftliche Nachhaltigkeit) und die Struktur möglicher Strategien nachhaltiger Entwicklung (Anschlussfähigkeit, Übergangsprobleme, Pfadabhängigkeit). Dieses Vorgehen wird am Beispiel nachhaltiger Energieversorgung plausibilisiert. Abschließend wird nach dem Wert dieser analytischen Vorgehensweise für eine rationale Gestaltung sozialer Nachhaltigkeitsdiskurse gefragt.Unlike the sociological study of sustainability concepts and discourses pursued by social actors, this essay aims at elaborating as clearly as possible the analytical structure and the conceptually still unequivocal substance of the concept sustainable development at a general level, without addressing specific typical problems (e.g. the compatibility of economic growth and sustainable development). Hence the following aspects of the concept sustainable development are discussed: its formal notions (analysis of terms and concept), its central reference points (limits to carrying capacity, distributional justice, strategies for realisation), the structure of feasible substantive statements (negative definition, formal orientation, contextual specification, tradeoffs), its substantive dimensions (ecological, social, economic sustainability), and the structure of possible sustainability strategies (linkability, problems of transition, path dependency). The plausibility of this procedure is demonstrated by the example of sustainable energy supply. Lastly, the benefit of this analytical perspective for a rational arrangement of sustainability discourses is addressed

Lernperspektiven für ein nachhaltigkeitsorientiertes Gender-und Diversitätsmanagement

Mittels Gender- und Diversitätsmanagement (GDM) und unterschiedlichen Formen des Nachhaltigkeitsmanagements bzw. "nachhaltigen Wirtschaftens" sucht man in Organisationen bereits seit einigen Jahrzehnten, strukturellen und normativen Verantwortungs- und Veränderungsanforderungen zu begegnen. Bisher wurde jedoch im deutschsprachigen GDM-Diskurs kaum Bezug auf Fragen des nachhaltigen Wirtschaftens genommen. Ziel des Beitrags ist es, in Form konzeptioneller Überlegungen eine Verknüpfung von GDM und dem Bereich des nachhaltigen Wirtschaftens anzuregen, um damit die reflexive Basis wissenschaftlicher und praxisbezogener Diskurse in beiden Bereichen stärker auf die Re-Produktionsmechanismen von Diversitätsdimensionen und die damit verbundenen Differenzsetzungen zu richten. Forschungslandschaft biotische Rohstoffe: Unternehmen und Branchen auf dem Weg zur Nachhaltigkeit (COMPASS)

Sustainable production and the sustainable use of biotic resources have becomeincreasingly significant. This results in the demand by society for a sustainable useof biotic resources especially within the nutrition sector. But also their use for industrial purposes had led research and development being given the task to support our economy with conceptional ideas.In this respect, the Working Group Eco-Efficiency & Sustainable Enterprises at theWuppertal Institute with Dr. Christa Liedtke as head, has developed a research landscape that gives a general overview of the theme of biotic resources - their sustainable production and use. The working group defines aims of research andlists urgent and current research tasks on a macro (politico-economically), meso (branches) and micro (enterprises and production) level. It is necessary to take onthe challenge that a future sustainable development presents for us. That is to realizeecologically, socially and economically a triple gain strategy along the three pillars of sustainability - to save resources, to create wealth and to strengthencompetitiveness.To implement this strategy the Working Group Eco-Efficiency and Sustainable Enterprises has developed the methodology tool of COMPASS (COMPAnies and Sectors' Path to Sustainability). Its aim is the system-embracing optimization ofsingle process chains, of products and services considering ecological, social and economic aspects. This methodology has already been implemented in various otherbranches and enterprises and it is now necessary to further adopt, test andspecifically develop COMPASS as a decision tool in the vast area of production anduse of biotic resources.This is done in a dialogue- and practice oriented way and inclose co-operation with all actors of the corresponding production lines. Generalworking themes that the Working Group will concentrate on in future deal with theproduct lines food products and products from renewable resources as follows:Identification of the ecological, economic and social targets of sustainability and aclassification of frameworks, obstacles and supporting aspects of sustainabledevelopment Identification of main material flows and severest pollution, of areas of highestmaterial turnover and of most significant social impacts within the area ofnutrition and use of renewable resources --

"Sanftes Monster Brüssel" – zur voraussichtlichen Repräsentation der Sozialwissenschaften in der zukünftigen europäischen Forschungsförderpolitik

Der Artikel befasst sich mit der europäischen Forschungsförderpolitik im Hinblick auf die Sozialwissenschaften. Derzeit laufen die Vorbereitungen für das nächste EU-Forschungsrahmenprogramm, das ab 2014 bis 2020 gültig sein wird. Es wird den Namen Horizon 2020 erhalten. Die Analyse skizziert die verschiedenen Aktivitäten, die nationale und europäische Erziehungswissenschaftsverbände entfaltet haben, um eine Repräsentation der Sozialwissenschaften im nächsten Rahmenprogramm zu gewährleisten.
