Online Localization and Tracking of Multiple Moving Speakers in Reverberant Environments
We address the problem of online localization and tracking of multiple moving
speakers in reverberant environments. The paper has the following
contributions. We use the direct-path relative transfer function (DP-RTF), an
inter-channel feature that encodes acoustic information robust against
reverberation, and we propose an online algorithm well suited for estimating
DP-RTFs associated with moving audio sources. Another crucial ingredient of the
proposed method is its ability to properly assign DP-RTFs to audio-source
directions. Towards this goal, we adopt a maximum-likelihood formulation and we
propose to use an exponentiated gradient (EG) to efficiently update
source-direction estimates starting from their currently available values. The
problem of multiple speaker tracking is computationally intractable because the
number of possible associations between observed source directions and physical
speakers grows exponentially with time. We adopt a Bayesian framework and we
propose a variational approximation of the posterior filtering distribution
associated with multiple speaker tracking, as well as an efficient variational
expectation-maximization (VEM) solver. The proposed online localization and
tracking method is thoroughly evaluated using two datasets that contain

Beamspace Aware Adaptive Channel Estimation for Single-Carrier Time-varying Massive MIMO Channels
In this paper, the problem of sequential beam construction and adaptive
channel estimation based on reduced rank (RR) Kalman filtering for
frequency-selective massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems
employing single-carrier (SC) in time division duplex (TDD) mode are
considered. In two-stage beamforming, a new algorithm for statistical
pre-beamformer design is proposed for spatially correlated time-varying
wideband MIMO channels under the assumption that the channel is a stationary
Gauss-Markov random process. The proposed algorithm yields a nearly optimal
pre-beamformer whose beam pattern is designed sequentially with low complexity
by taking the user-grouping into account, and exploiting the properties of
Kalman filtering and associated prediction error covariance matrices. The
resulting design, based on the second order statistical properties of the
channel, generates beamspace on which the RR Kalman estimator can be realized
as accurately as possible. It is observed that the adaptive channel estimation
technique together with the proposed sequential beamspace construction shows
remarkable robustness to the pilot interference. This comes with significant
reduction in both pilot overhead and dimension of the pre-beamformer lowering

Inter-sensor propagation delay estimation using sources of opportunity
Propagation delays are intensively used for Structural Health Monitoring or
Sensor Network Localization. In this paper, we study the performances of
acoustic propagation delay estimation between two sensors, using sources of
opportunity only. Such sources are defined as being uncontrolled by the user
(activation time, location, spectral content in time and space), thus
preventing the direct estimation with classical active approaches, such as
TDOA, RSSI and AOA. Observation models are extended from the literature to
account for the spectral characteristics of the sources in this passive context
and we show how time-filtered sources of opportunity impact the retrieval of
the propagation delay between two sensors. A geometrical analogy is then
proposed that leads to a lower bound on the variance of the propagation delay
estimation that accounts for both the temporal and the spatial properties of
the sources field
Kajian motivasi ekstrinsik di antara Pelajar Lepasan Sijil dan Diploma Politeknik Jabatan Kejuruteraan Awam KUiTTHO
Kajian ini dijalankan untuk menyelidiki pengaruh dorongan keluarga, cara pengajaran pensyarah, pengaruh rakan sebaya dan kemudahan infrastruktur terhadap motivasi ekstrinsik bagi pelajar tahun tiga dan tahun empat lepasan sijil dan diploma politeknik Jabatan Kejuruteraan Awain Kolej Universiti Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn. Sampel kajian ini beijumlah 87 orang bagi pelajar lepasan sijil politeknik dan 38 orang bagi lepasan diploma politeknik. Data kajian telah diperolehi melalui borang soal selidik dan telah dianalisis menggunakan perisian SPSS (Statical Package For Sciences). Hasil kajian telah dipersembahkan dalam bentuk jadual dan histohgrapi. Analisis kajian mendapati bahawa kedua-dua kumpulan setuju bahawa faktor-faktor di atas memberi kesan kepada motivasi ekstrinsik mereka. Dengan kata lain faktpr-faktor tersebut penting dalam membentuk pelajar mencapai kecemerlangan akademik
