    Role of Ranking Algorithms for Information Retrieval

    As the use of web is increasing more day by day, the web users get easily lost in the web's rich hyper structure. The main aim of the owner of the website is to give the relevant information according their needs to the users. We explained the Web mining is used to categorize users and pages by analyzing user's behavior, the content of pages and then describe Web Structure mining. This paper includes different Page Ranking algorithms and compares those algorithms used for Information Retrieval. Different Page Rank based algorithms like Page Rank (PR), WPR (Weighted Page Rank), HITS (Hyperlink Induced Topic Selection), Distance Rank and EigenRumor algorithms are discussed and compared.     Spectral centrality measures in complex networks

    Complex networks are characterized by heterogeneous distributions of the degree of nodes, which produce a large diversification of the roles of the nodes within the network. Several centrality measures have been introduced to rank nodes based on their topological importance within a graph. Here we review and compare centrality measures based on spectral properties of graph matrices. We shall focus on PageRank, eigenvector centrality and the hub/authority scores of HITS. We derive simple relations between the measures and the (in)degree of the nodes, in some limits.     Temporal similarity metrics for latent network reconstruction: The role of time-lag decay

    When investigating the spreading of a piece of information or the diffusion of an innovation, we often lack information on the underlying propagation network. Reconstructing the hidden propagation paths based on the observed diffusion process is a challenging problem which has recently attracted attention from diverse research fields. To address this reconstruction problem, based on static similarity metrics commonly used in the link prediction literature, we introduce new node-node temporal similarity metrics. The new metrics take as input the time-series of multiple independent spreading processes, based on the hypothesis that two nodes are more likely to be connected if they were often infected at similar points in time. This hypothesis is implemented by introducing a time-lag function which penalizes distant infection times. We find that the choice of this time-lag strongly affects the metrics' reconstruction accuracy, depending on the network's clustering coefficient and we provide an extensive comparative analysis of static and temporal similarity metrics for network reconstruction. Our findings shed new light on the notion of similarity between pairs of nodes in complex networks

    The effectiveness of travel blogs on consumers’ travel planning

    This research explores the effectiveness of travel blogs on consumers’ travel planning through information search, decision making and visual communication. There is an uncertainty of tourist services information from travel blogs that have affected consumers’ travel planning in addition to the functions of travel blogs are not as prevalent as it is mostly used in the advantage of Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs). This research proposes two research questions which are travel blogs have the functions that affect consumers’ travel planning and to what degree travel blogs could influence travel planning. This research uses quantitative approach in which questionnaire is used for the instrument and the targeted population is on Education Hub Pagoh. A total of 54 respondents is obtained from the distributed instrument. The results are run through Pearson correlation analysis followed by regression analysis in which this research shows that effectiveness, information search, decision making and visual communication has a positive relationship with each other but not all variables are significant for use. This research shows that the functions of travel blogs as well as the degree of influence are present which reflects on the effectiveness of it
