The application of remote sensing to resource management and environmental quality programs in Kansas
The activities of the Kansas Applied Remote Sensing (KARS) Program during the period April 1, 1982 through Marsh 31, 1983 are described. The most important work revolved around the Kansas Interagency Task Force on Applied Remote Sensing and its efforts to establish an operational service oriented remote sensing program in Kansas state government. Concomitant with this work was the upgrading of KARS capabilities to process data for state agencies through the vehicle of a low cost digital data processing system. The KARS Program continued to take an active role in irrigation mapping. KARS is now integrating data acquired through analysis of LANDSAT into geographic information systems designed for evaluating groundwater resources. KARS also continues to work at the national level on the national inventory of state natural resources information systems
Database management and implementation for coal fire detection and monitoring in the Ruijgou Coalfield, Northwest China
Coal fire monitoring by aerospace remote sensing and GIS techniques is an advanced approach, which has been implemented in the
Rujigou coalfield, northwest China. A database of several different types of data, including remote sensing images, results of
geological surveys, etc., has been collected and assembled in a PC-based information system, which is being developed by the
International Institute for Aerospace Survey and Earth Sciences (ITC). This coal fire monitoring and management information
system (CoalMan) comprises of two main parts: one is the database with its management tools, and the tools for data processing
and analysis form the other. This paper first introduces the structure of the CoalMan information system, presents the data types
and contents of CoalMan database, then shows the data management methods. A complex data analysis package is outlined too, as
the core of the information system
Cybernetic basis and system practice of remote sensing and spatial information science
Cybernetics provides a new set of ideas and methods for the study of modern science, and it has been fully applied in many areas. However, few people have introduced cybernetics into the field of remote sensing. The paper is based on the imaging process of remote sensing system, introducing cybernetics into the field of remote sensing, establishing a space-time closed-loop control theory for the actual operation of remote sensing. The paper made the process of spatial information coherently, and improved the comprehensive efficiency of the space information from acquisition, procession, transformation to application. We not only describes the application of cybernetics in remote sensing platform control, sensor control, data processing control, but also in whole system of remote sensing imaging process control. We achieve the information of output back to the input to control the efficient operation of the entire system. This breakthrough combination of cybernetics science and remote sensing science will improve remote sensing science to a higher level
Locally-adapted convolution-based super-resolution of irregularly-sampled ocean remote sensing data
Super-resolution is a classical problem in image processing, with numerous
applications to remote sensing image enhancement. Here, we address the
super-resolution of irregularly-sampled remote sensing images. Using an optimal
interpolation as the low-resolution reconstruction, we explore locally-adapted
multimodal convolutional models and investigate different dictionary-based
decompositions, namely based on principal component analysis (PCA), sparse
priors and non-negativity constraints. We consider an application to the
reconstruction of sea surface height (SSH) fields from two information sources,
along-track altimeter data and sea surface temperature (SST) data. The reported
experiments demonstrate the relevance of the proposed model, especially
locally-adapted parametrizations with non-negativity constraints, to outperform
optimally-interpolated reconstructions.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
