Probably Safe or Live
This paper presents a formal characterisation of safety and liveness
properties \`a la Alpern and Schneider for fully probabilistic systems. As for
the classical setting, it is established that any (probabilistic tree) property
is equivalent to a conjunction of a safety and liveness property. A simple
algorithm is provided to obtain such property decomposition for flat
probabilistic CTL (PCTL). A safe fragment of PCTL is identified that provides a
sound and complete characterisation of safety properties. For liveness
properties, we provide two PCTL fragments, a sound and a complete one. We show
that safety properties only have finite counterexamples, whereas liveness
properties have none. We compare our characterisation for qualitative
properties with the one for branching time properties by Manolios and Trefler,
and present sound and complete PCTL fragments for characterising the notions of
strong safety and absolute liveness coined by Sistla
Portfolio-aspects in real options management
Real options theory applies techniques known from finance theory to the valuation of capital investments. The present paper investigates further into this analogy, considering the case of a portfolio of real options. An implementation of real option models in practice will mostly be concerned with a portfolio of real options, so the analysis of portfolio aspects is of both academic and practical interest. Is a portfolio of real options special? In order to shed some light on this question, the present paper will outline the relevant features of a portfolio of real options. It will show that the analogy to financial options remains great if compound option models are applied. As a result, a portfolio of real options, and therefore the firm as such, generally is to be understood as one single compound, real option
Indexed linear logic and higher-order model checking
In recent work, Kobayashi observed that the acceptance by an alternating tree
automaton A of an infinite tree T generated by a higher-order recursion scheme
G may be formulated as the typability of the recursion scheme G in an
appropriate intersection type system associated to the automaton A. The purpose
of this article is to establish a clean connection between this line of work
and Bucciarelli and Ehrhard's indexed linear logic. This is achieved in two
steps. First, we recast Kobayashi's result in an equivalent infinitary
intersection type system where intersection is not idempotent anymore. Then, we
show that the resulting type system is a fragment of an infinitary version of
Bucciarelli and Ehrhard's indexed linear logic. While this work is very
preliminary and does not integrate key ingredients of higher-order
model-checking like priorities, it reveals an interesting and promising

Satisfiability of CTL* with constraints
We show that satisfiability for CTL* with equality-, order-, and
modulo-constraints over Z is decidable. Previously, decidability was only known
for certain fragments of CTL*, e.g., the existential and positive fragments and

Automatic treebank-based acquisition of Arabic LFG dependency structures
A number of papers have reported on methods for the automatic acquisition of large-scale, probabilistic LFG-based grammatical resources from treebanks for English (Cahill and al., 2002), (Cahill and al., 2004), German (Cahill and al., 2003), Chinese (Burke, 2004), (Guo and al.,
2007), Spanish (O’Donovan, 2004), (Chrupala and van Genabith, 2006) and French (Schluter and van Genabith, 2008). Here, we extend the LFG grammar acquisition approach to Arabic and the Penn Arabic Treebank (ATB) (Maamouri and
Bies, 2004), adapting and extending the methodology
of (Cahill and al., 2004) originally developed for English. Arabic is challenging because of its morphological richness and syntactic complexity.
Currently 98% of ATB trees (without FRAG and X) produce a covering and connected f-structure.
We conduct a qualitative evaluation of our annotation
against a gold standard and achieve an f-score of 95%
