Rainbow Hamilton cycles in random regular graphs
A rainbow subgraph of an edge-coloured graph has all edges of distinct
colours. A random d-regular graph with d even, and having edges coloured
randomly with d/2 of each of n colours, has a rainbow Hamilton cycle with

The Effect of Alcohol Consumption on Mortality: Regression Discontinuity Evidence from the Minimum Drinking Age
This paper estimates the effect of alcohol consumption on mortality using the minimum drinking age in a regression discontinuity design. We find that granting legal access to alcohol at age 21 leads to large and immediate increases in several measures of alcohol consumption, including a 21 percent increase in the number of days on which people drink. This increase in alcohol consumption results in a discrete 9 percent increase in the mortality rate at age 21. The overall increase in deaths is due primarily to a 14 percent increase in deaths due to motor vehicle accidents, a 30 percent increase in alcohol overdoses and alcohol-related deaths, and a 15 percent increase in suicides. Combining the reduced-form estimates reveals that a 1 percent increase in the number of days a young adult drinks or drinks heavily results in a .4 percent increase in total mortality. Given that mortality due to external causes peaks at about age 21 and that young adults report very high levels of alcohol consumption, our results suggest that public policy interventions to reduce youth drinking can have substantial public health benefits.
Pay Cycles: Individual and Aggregate Effects of Paycheck Frequency
This paper shows that the frequency at which workers are paid affects the within-month patterns of both household expenditure and aggregate economic activity. To identify causal effects, I exploit two novel sources of exogenous variation in pay frequency in the US. First, using an as-good-as-random variation in the pay frequency of retired couples, I show that those who are paid more frequently have smoother expenditure paths. Second, I take advantage of crossstate variation in labor laws to compare patterns of economic activity in states in which the frequency with which wages are paid differs. I document that low pay frequencies lead to within-month business cycles when many workers are paid on the same dates, which in turn generates costly congestion in sectors with capacity constraints. These findings have important policy implications for contexts where firms and workers do not internalize such congestion externalities as this situation leads to market equilibria with suboptimally low pay frequencies and few paydays.Centro de Estudios Distributivos, Laborales y Sociales (CEDLAS

Stochastic evolution equations driven by Liouville fractional Brownian motion
Let H be a Hilbert space and E a Banach space. We set up a theory of
stochastic integration of L(H,E)-valued functions with respect to H-cylindrical
Liouville fractional Brownian motions (fBm) with arbitrary Hurst parameter in
the interval (0,1). For Hurst parameters in (0,1/2) we show that a function
F:(0,T)\to L(H,E) is stochastically integrable with respect to an H-cylindrical
Liouville fBm if and only if it is stochastically integrable with respect to an
H-cylindrical fBm with the same Hurst parameter. As an application we show that
second-order parabolic SPDEs on bounded domains in \mathbb{R}^d, driven by
space-time noise which is white in space and Liouville fractional in time with
Hurst parameter in (d/4,1) admit mild solution which are H\"older continuous

Data Mining in Electronic Commerce
Modern business is rushing toward e-commerce. If the transition is done
properly, it enables better management, new services, lower transaction costs
and better customer relations. Success depends on skilled information
technologists, among whom are statisticians. This paper focuses on some of the
contributions that statisticians are making to help change the business world,
especially through the development and application of data mining methods. This
is a very large area, and the topics we cover are chosen to avoid overlap with
other papers in this special issue, as well as to respect the limitations of
our expertise. Inevitably, electronic commerce has raised and is raising fresh
research problems in a very wide range of statistical areas, and we try to
