    Robust normalization and guaranteed cost control for a class of uncertain singular Markovian jump systems via hybrid impulsive control

    This paper investigates the problem of robust normalization and guaranteed cost control for a class of uncertain singular Markovian jump systems. The uncertainties exhibit in both system matrices and transition rate matrix of the Markovian chain. A new impulsive and proportional-derivative control strategy is presented, where the derivative gain is to make the closed-loop system of the singular plant to be a normal one, and the impulsive control part is to make the value of the Lyapunov function does not increase at each time instant of the Markovian switching. A linearization approach via congruence transformations is proposed to solve the controller design problem. The cost function is minimized via solving an optimization problem under the designed control scheme. Finally, three examples (two numerical examples and an RC pulse divider circuit example) are provided to illustrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed methods

    Impulse Elimination and Fault-Tolerant Preview Controller Design for a Class of Descriptor Systems

    In this paper, a fault-tolerant preview controller is designed for a class of impulse controllable continuous time descriptor systems with sensor faults. Firstly, the impulse is eliminated by introducing state prefeedback; then an algebraic equation and a normal control system are obtained by restricted equivalent transformation for the descriptor system after impulse elimination. Next, the model following problem in fault-tolerant control is transformed into the optimal regulation problem of the augmented system which is constructed by a general method. And the final augmented system and its corresponding performance index function are obtained by state feedback for the augmented system constructed above. The controller with preview effect for the final augmented system is attained based on the existing conclusions of optimal preview control; then, the fault-tolerant preview controller for the original system is obtained through integral and backstepping. The relationships between the stabilisability and detectability of the final augmented system and the corresponding characteristics of the original descriptor system are also strictly discussed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by numerical simulation

    Iterativno upravljanje putem učenja (ILC) predstavlja jedno od važnih oblasti u teoriji upravljanja i pogodno je za upravljanje šire klase mehatroničkih sistema, a posebno su pogodni za upravljanje kretanjem robotskih sistema. Ovaj se rad bavi problemom primene frakcionog reda ILC upravljanja za singularne sisteme frakcionog reda. Posebno, ovde se proučavaju singularni sistemi necelog reda u prostoru pseduo-stanja. U povratnoj sprezi frakcionog reda PDa tip ILC upravljanje za singularni sistem frakcionog reda je istraživano. Takođe, frakcionog reda P-PDa tip ILC upravljanje u direktnoj-povratnoj sprezi je razmatrano. Dovoljni uslovi za konvergenciju u vremenskom domenu predloženih šema ILC upravljanja su data odgovarajućim teoremama i koja su dokazana. Konačno, numeričke simualcije na primer pokazuje izvodljivost i efikasnost predloženog pristupa.Iterative learning control (ILC) is one of the recent topics in control theories and it is suitable for controlling a wider class of mechatronic systems - it is especially suitable for the motion control of robotic systems. This paper addresses the problem of application of fractional order ILC for fractional order singular system. Particularly, we study fractional order singular systems in the pseudo-state space. An closed-loop fractional order PDalpha type ILC of the fractional-order singular system is investigated. Also, open-closed loop of the fractional order P-PDa type ILC is considered. Sufficient conditions for the convergence in the time domain of the proposed ILC schemes are given by the corresponding theorems and proved. Finally, numerical simulations show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach

    Qualitative Properties of Hybrid Singular Systems

    A singular system model is mathematically formulated as a set of coupled differential and algebraic equations. Singular systems, also referred to as descriptor or differential algebraic systems, have extensive applications in power, economic, and biological systems. The main purpose of this thesis is to address the problems of stability and stabilization for singular hybrid systems with or without time delay. First, some su cient conditions on the exponential stability property of both continuous and discrete impulsive switched singular systems with time delay (ISSSD) are proposed. We address this problem for the continuous system in three cases: all subsystems are stable, the system consists of both stable and unstable subsystems, and all subsystems are unstable. For the discrete system, we focus on when all subsystems are stable, and the system consists of both stable and unstable subsystems. The stability results for both the continuous and the discrete system are investigated by first using the multiple Lyapunov functions along with the average-dwell time (ADT) switching signal to organize the jumps among the system modes and then resorting the Halanay Lemma. Second, an optimal feedback control only for continuous ISSSD is designed to guarantee the exponential stability of the closed-loop system. Moreover, a Luenberger-type observer is designed to estimate the system states such that the corresponding closed-loop error system is exponentially stable. Similarly, we have used the multiple Lyapunov functions approach with the ADT switching signal and the Halanay Lemma. Third, the problem of designing a sliding mode control (SMC) for singular systems subject to impulsive effects is addressed in continuous and discrete contexts. The main objective is to design an SMC law such that the closed-loop system achieves stability. Designing a sliding surface, analyzing a reaching condition and designing an SMC law are investigated throughly. In addition, the discrete SMC law is slightly modi ed to eliminate chattering. Last, mean square admissibility for singular switched systems with stochastic noise in continuous and discrete cases is investigated. Sufficient conditions that guarantee mean square admissibility are developed by using linear matrix inequalities (LMIs)

    Dear Colleagues, I am very happy to have this Special Issue of the journal Energies on the topic of Design and Control of Electrical Motor Drives published. Electrical motor drives are widely used in the industry, automation, transportation, and home appliances. Indeed, rolling mills, machine tools, high-speed trains, subway systems, elevators, electric vehicles, air conditioners, all depend on electrical motor drives.However, the production of effective and practical motors and drives requires flexibility in the regulation of current, torque, flux, acceleration, position, and speed. Without proper modeling, drive, and control, these motor drive systems cannot function effectively.To address these issues, we need to focus on the design, modeling, drive, and control of different types of motors, such as induction motors, permanent magnet synchronous motors, brushless DC motors, DC motors, synchronous reluctance motors, switched reluctance motors, flux-switching motors, linear motors, and step motors.Therefore, relevant research topics in this field of study include modeling electrical motor drives, both in transient and in steady-state, and designing control methods based on novel control strategies (e.g., PI controllers, fuzzy logic controllers, neural network controllers, predictive controllers, adaptive controllers, nonlinear controllers, etc.), with particular attention to transient responses, load disturbances, fault tolerance, and multi-motor drive techniques. This Special Issue include original contributions regarding recent developments and ideas in motor design, motor drive, and motor control. The topics include motor design, field-oriented control, torque control, reliability improvement, advanced controllers for motor drive systems, DSP-based sensorless motor drive systems, high-performance motor drive systems, high-efficiency motor drive systems, and practical applications of motor drive systems.     Observer based active fault tolerant control of descriptor systems

    The active fault tolerant control (AFTC) uses the information provided by fault detection and fault diagnosis (FDD) or fault estimation (FE) systems offering an opportunity to improve the safety, reliability and survivability for complex modern systems. However, in the majority of the literature the roles of FDD/FE and reconfigurable control are described as separate design issues often using a standard state space (i.e. non-descriptor) system model approach. These separate FDD/FE and reconfigurable control designs may not achieve desired stability and robustness performance when combined within a closed-loop system.This work describes a new approach to the integration of FE and fault compensation as a form of AFTC within the context of a descriptor system rather than standard state space system. The proposed descriptor system approach has an integrated controller and observer design strategy offering better design flexibility compared with the equivalent approach using a standard state space system. An extended state observer (ESO) is developed to achieve state and fault estimation based on a joint linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach to pole-placement and H∞ optimization to minimize the effects of bounded exogenous disturbance and modelling uncertainty. A novel proportional derivative (PD)-ESO is introduced to achieve enhanced estimation performance, making use of the additional derivative gain. The proposed approaches are evaluated using a common numerical example adapted from the recent literature and the simulation results demonstrate clearly the feasibility and power of the integrated estimation and control AFTC strategy. The proposed AFTC design strategy is extended to an LPV descriptor system framework as a way of dealing with the robustness and stability of the system with bounded parameter variations arising from the non-linear system, where a numerical example demonstrates the feasibility of the use of the PD-ESO for FE and compensation integrated within the AFTC system.A non-linear offshore wind turbine benchmark system is studied as an application of the proposed design strategy. The proposed AFTC scheme uses the existing industry standard wind turbine generator angular speed reference control system as a “baseline” control within the AFTC scheme. The simulation results demonstrate the added value of the new AFTC system in terms of good fault tolerance properties, compared with the existing baseline system

    MIMO signal processing in offset-QAM based filter bank multicarrier systems

    Next-generation communication systems have to comply with very strict requirements for increased flexibility in heterogeneous environments, high spectral efficiency, and agility of carrier aggregation. This fact motivates research in advanced multicarrier modulation (MCM) schemes, such as filter bank-based multicarrier (FBMC) modulation. This paper focuses on the offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OQAM)-based FBMC variant, known as FBMC/OQAM, which presents outstanding spectral efficiency and confinement in a number of channels and applications. Its special nature, however, generates a number of new signal processing challenges that are not present in other MCM schemes, notably, in orthogonal-frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM). In multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) architectures, which are expected to play a primary role in future communication systems, these challenges are intensified, creating new interesting research problems and calling for new ideas and methods that are adapted to the particularities of the MIMO-FBMC/OQAM system. The goal of this paper is to focus on these signal processing problems and provide a concise yet comprehensive overview of the recent advances in this area.
