    Color image steganalysis based on quaternion discrete cosine transform

    With the rapid development and application of Internet technology in recent years, the issue of information security has received more and more attention. Digital steganography is used as a means of secure communication to hide information by modifying the carrier. However, steganography can also be used for illegal acts, so it is of great significance to study steganalysis techniques. The steganalysis technology can be used to solve the illegal steganography problem of computer vision and engineering applications technology. Most of the images in the Internet are color images, and steganalysis for color images is a very critical problem in the field of steganalysis at this stage. Currently proposed algorithms for steganalysis of color images mainly rely on the manual design of steganographic features, and the steganographic features do not fully consider the internal connection between the three channels of color images. In recent years, advanced steganography techniques for color images have been proposed, which brings more serious challenges to color image steganalysis. Quaternions are a good tool to represent color images, and the transformation of quaternions can fully exploit the correlation among color image channels. In this paper, we propose a color image steganalysis algorithm based on quaternion discrete cosine transform, firstly, the image is represented by quaternion, then the quaternion discrete cosine transform is applied to it, and the coefficients obtained from the transformation are extracted to design features of the coeval matrix. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm works better than the typical color image steganalysis algorithm

    Errorless Robust JPEG Steganography using Outputs of JPEG Coders

    Robust steganography is a technique of hiding secret messages in images so that the message can be recovered after additional image processing. One of the most popular processing operations is JPEG recompression. Unfortunately, most of today's steganographic methods addressing this issue only provide a probabilistic guarantee of recovering the secret and are consequently not errorless. That is unacceptable since even a single unexpected change can make the whole message unreadable if it is encrypted. We propose to create a robust set of DCT coefficients by inspecting their behavior during recompression, which requires access to the targeted JPEG compressor. This is done by dividing the DCT coefficients into 64 non-overlapping lattices because one embedding change can potentially affect many other coefficients from the same DCT block during recompression. The robustness is then combined with standard steganographic costs creating a lattice embedding scheme robust against JPEG recompression. Through experiments, we show that the size of the robust set and the scheme's security depends on the ordering of lattices during embedding. We verify the validity of the proposed method with three typical JPEG compressors and benchmark its security for various embedding payloads, three different ways of ordering the lattices, and a range of Quality Factors.     Steganographie ist die Kunst der vertraulichen Kommunikation. Anders als in der Kryptographie, wo der Austausch vertraulicher Daten fĂŒr Dritte offensichtlich ist, werden die vertraulichen Daten in einem steganographischen System in andere, unauffĂ€llige Coverdaten (z.B. Bilder) eingebettet und so an den EmpfĂ€nger ĂŒbertragen. Ziel eines steganographischen Algorithmus ist es, die Coverdaten nur geringfĂŒgig zu Ă€ndern, um deren statistische Merkmale zu erhalten, und möglichst in unauffĂ€lligen Teilen des Covers einzubetten. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, werden verschiedene AnsĂ€tze der so genannten minimum-embedding-impact Steganographie basierend auf Syndromkodierung vorgestellt. Es wird dabei zwischen AnsĂ€tzen basierend auf stochastischen und auf deterministischen Matrizen unterschieden. Anschließend werden die Algorithmen bewertet, um Vorteile der Anwendung von Syndromkodierung herauszustellen

    Data hiding in multimedia - theory and applications

    Multimedia data hiding or steganography is a means of communication using subliminal channels. The resource for the subliminal communication scheme is the distortion of the original content that can be tolerated. This thesis addresses two main issues of steganographic communication schemes: 1. How does one maximize the distortion introduced without affecting fidelity of the content? 2. How does one efficiently utilize the resource (the distortion introduced) for communicating as many bits of information as possible? In other words, what is a good signaling strategy for the subliminal communication scheme? Close to optimal solutions for both issues are analyzed. Many techniques for the issue for maximizing the resource, viz, the distortion introduced imperceptibly in images and video frames, are proposed. Different signaling strategies for steganographic communication are explored, and a novel signaling technique employing a floating signal constellation is proposed. Algorithms for optimal choices of the parameters of the signaling technique are presented. Other application specific issues like the type of robustness needed are taken into consideration along with the established theoretical background to design optimal data hiding schemes. In particular, two very important applications of data hiding are addressed - data hiding for multimedia content delivery, and data hiding for watermarking (for proving ownership).     With the rapid development of digital multimedia technologies, an old method which is called steganography has been sought to be a solution for data hiding applications such as digital watermarking and covert communication. Steganography is the art of secret communication using a cover signal, e.g., video, audio, image etc., whereas the counter-technique, detecting the existence of such as a channel through a statistically trained classifier, is called steganalysis. The state-of-the art data hiding algorithms utilize features; such as Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) coefficients, pixel values, motion vectors etc., of the cover signal to convey the message to the receiver side. The goal of embedding algorithm is to maximize the number of bits sent to the decoder side (embedding capacity) with maximum robustness against attacks while keeping the perceptual and statistical distortions (security) low. Data Hiding schemes are characterized by these three conflicting requirements: security against steganalysis, robustness against channel associated and/or intentional distortions, and the capacity in terms of the embedded payload. Depending upon the application it is the designer\u27s task to find an optimum solution amongst them. The goal of this thesis is to develop a novel data hiding scheme to establish a covert channel satisfying statistical and perceptual invisibility with moderate rate capacity and robustness to combat steganalysis based detection. The idea behind the proposed method is the alteration of Video Object (VO) trajectory coordinates to convey the message to the receiver side by perturbing the centroid coordinates of the VO. Firstly, the VO is selected by the user and tracked through the frames by using a simple region based search strategy and morphological operations. After the trajectory coordinates are obtained, the perturbation of the coordinates implemented through the usage of a non-linear embedding function, such as a polar quantizer where both the magnitude and phase of the motion is used. However, the perturbations made to the motion magnitude and phase were kept small to preserve the semantic meaning of the object motion trajectory. The proposed method is well suited to the video sequences in which VOs have smooth motion trajectories. Examples of these types could be found in sports videos in which the ball is the focus of attention and exhibits various motion types, e.g., rolling on the ground, flying in the air, being possessed by a player, etc. Different sports video sequences have been tested by using the proposed method. Through the experimental results, it is shown that the proposed method achieved the goal of both statistical and perceptual invisibility with moderate rate embedding capacity under AWGN channel with varying noise variances. This achievement is important as the first step for both active and passive steganalysis is the detection of the existence of covert channel. This work has multiple contributions in the field of data hiding. Firstly, it is the first example of a data hiding method in which the trajectory of a VO is used. Secondly, this work has contributed towards improving steganographic security by providing new features: the coordinate location and semantic meaning of the object

    Natural Image Statistics for Digital Image Forensics

    We describe a set of natural image statistics that are built upon two multi-scale image decompositions, the quadrature mirror filter pyramid decomposition and the local angular harmonic decomposition. These image statistics consist of first- and higher-order statistics that capture certain statistical regularities of natural images. We propose to apply these image statistics, together with classification techniques, to three problems in digital image forensics: (1) differentiating photographic images from computer-generated photorealistic images, (2) generic steganalysis; (3) rebroadcast image detection. We also apply these image statistics to the traditional art authentication for forgery detection and identification of artists in an art work. For each application we show the effectiveness of these image statistics and analyze their sensitivity and robustness
