On multi-user EXIT chart analysis aided turbo-detected MBER beamforming designs
Abstract—This paper studies the mutual information transfer characteristics of a novel iterative soft interference cancellation (SIC) aided beamforming receiver communicating over both additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and multipath slow fading channels. Based on the extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) chart technique, we investigate the convergence behavior of an iterative minimum bit error rate (MBER) multiuser detection (MUD) scheme as a function of both the system parameters and channel conditions in comparison to the SIC aided minimum mean square error (SIC-MMSE) MUD. Our simulation results show that the EXIT chart analysis is sufficiently accurate for the MBER MUD. Quantitatively, a two-antenna system was capable of supporting up to K=6 users at Eb/N0=3dB, even when their angular separation was relatively low, potentially below 20?. Multiuser Detection and Channel Estimation for Multibeam Satellite Communications
In this paper, iterative multi-user detection techniques for multi-beam
communications are presented. The solutions are based on a successive
interference cancellation architecture and a channel decoding to treat the
co-channel interference. Beams forming and channels coefficients are estimated
and updated iteratively. A developed technique of signals combining allows
power improvement of the useful received signal; and then reduction of the bit
error rates with low signal to noise ratios. The approach is applied to a
synchronous multi-beam satellite link under an additive white Gaussian channel.
Evaluation of the techniques is done with computer simulations, where a noised
and multi-access environment is considered. The simulations results show the
good performance of the proposed solutions.Comment: 12 page
Performance Analysis of Iterative Channel Estimation and Multiuser Detection in Multipath DS-CDMA Channels
This paper examines the performance of decision feedback based iterative
channel estimation and multiuser detection in channel coded aperiodic DS-CDMA
systems operating over multipath fading channels. First, explicit expressions
describing the performance of channel estimation and parallel interference
cancellation based multiuser detection are developed. These results are then
combined to characterize the evolution of the performance of a system that
iterates among channel estimation, multiuser detection and channel decoding.
Sufficient conditions for convergence of this system to a unique fixed point
are developed.Comment: To appear in the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processin
Layered Steered Space–Time-Spreading-Aided Generalized MC DS-CDMA
Abstract—We present a novel trifunctional multiple-input– multiple-output (MIMO) scheme that intrinsically amalgamates space–time spreading (STS) to achieve a diversity gain and a Vertical Bell Labs layered space–time (V-BLAST) scheme to attain a multiplexing gain in the context of generalized multicarrier direct-sequence code-division multiple access (MC DS-CDMA), as well as beamforming. Furthermore, the proposed system employs both time- and frequency-domain spreading to increase the number of users, which is also combined with a user-grouping technique to reduce the effects of multiuser interference
Multiuser MIMO-OFDM for Next-Generation Wireless Systems
This overview portrays the 40-year evolution of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) research. The amelioration of powerful multicarrier OFDM arrangements with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems has numerous benefits, which are detailed in this treatise. We continue by highlighting the limitations of conventional detection and channel estimation techniques designed for multiuser MIMO OFDM systems in the so-called rank-deficient scenarios, where the number of users supported or the number of transmit antennas employed exceeds the number of receiver antennas. This is often encountered in practice, unless we limit the number of users granted access in the base station’s or radio port’s coverage area. Following a historical perspective on the associated design problems and their state-of-the-art solutions, the second half of this treatise details a range of classic multiuser detectors (MUDs) designed for MIMO-OFDM systems and characterizes their achievable performance. A further section aims for identifying novel cutting-edge genetic algorithm (GA)-aided detector solutions, which have found numerous applications in wireless communications in recent years. In an effort to stimulate the cross pollination of ideas across the machine learning, optimization, signal processing, and wireless communications research communities, we will review the broadly applicable principles of various GA-assisted optimization techniques, which were recently proposed also for employment inmultiuser MIMO OFDM. In order to stimulate new research, we demonstrate that the family of GA-aided MUDs is capable of achieving a near-optimum performance at the cost of a significantly lower computational complexity than that imposed by their optimum maximum-likelihood (ML) MUD aided counterparts. The paper is concluded by outlining a range of future research options that may find their way into next-generation wireless systems
Frequency-Domain Turbo Equalisation in Coded SC-FDMA Systems: EXIT Chart Analysis and Performance
In this paper, we investigate the achievable performance of channel coded single-carrier frequency division multiple-access (SC-FDMA) systems employing various detection schemes, when communicating over frequency-selective fading channels. Specifically, three types of minimum mean-square error (MMSE) based frequency-domain (FD) turbo equalisers are considered. The first one is the turbo FD linear equaliser (LE). The second one is a parallel interference cancellation (PIC)-assisted turbo FD decision-feedback equaliser (DFE). The final one is the proposed hybrid interference cancellation (HIC)-aided turboFD-DFE, which combines successive interference cancellation (SIC) with iterative PIC and decoding. The benefit of interference cancellation (IC) is analysed with the EXtrinsic Information Transfer (EXIT) charts. The performance of the coded SC-FDMA systems employing the above-mentioned detection schemes is investigated with the aid of simulations. Our studies show that the IC techniques achieve an attractive performance at a moderate complexity
