    THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS PERCEPTION AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE TOWARDS ONLINE LEARNING SYSTEM DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

    Online learning is a system based on formal teaching with the help of electronic devices and used internet connection to facilitates more flexible distance learning and a vast network to connect. Online learning has been carried out in universities in the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to determine the correlation between students' perceptions and academic performance towards the online learning system during the COVID-19 pandemic of English education study program students at Indo Global Mandiri University Palembang. quantitative method used in this study with a correlational design to analyze the data. The sample was students majoring in English Education intake 2018, 2019, and 2020. Seventy-eight students from three intakes of English Education students participated in this study. The data sources used by the researchers are graphs of student academic performance and a questionnaire. This research shows that student's academic performance is not much impacted by their perception of online learning. Based on Malik and Singh (2016) Academic performance can be influenced by internal and external factors, such as; Motivation, Economics, Social, and Family. Therefore, students, lecturers, and educational institutions must synergize in improving services, communication, and online-based education systems to benefit more from online learning systems

    Perspectives and experiences in online teaching and learning

    This qualitative study aimed to explore the perspectives and experiences of students and teachers at PAU Excellencia Global Academy Foundation, Inc. in online teaching and learning. The study gathered data through in-depth interviews with 10 students and 10 teachers. The findings of the study revealed four main themes: (1) advantages of online teaching and learning, (2) challenges of online teaching and learning, (3) pedagogical strategies for online teaching and learning, and (4) recommendations for improving online teaching and learning. The participants identified several advantages of online teaching and learning, including flexibility, convenience, and accessibility. Participants also noted that online learning can be more cost-effective than traditional classroom-based learning. However, participants also identified several challenges, such as technical difficulties and poor internet connectivity, as well as the potential for isolation and the lack of face-to-face interaction. To address these challenges, participants recommended the use of effective communication and feedback, as well as the use of multimedia tools to enhance student engagement. Teachers also emphasized the importance of creating engaging online content that encourages student participation and active learning. Participants suggested the implementation of regular check-ins with students and the provision of academic support and resources. These findings provide valuable insights into the perspectives and experiences of students and teachers in online teaching and learning and can inform the development of effective online teaching and learning systems at PAU and other educational institutions in the Philippines

    Efficient use of educational technology and digital learning possibilities has always been the strategic area of high importance in border guards training at the State Border Guard College of Latvia. Recently, issues related to training during the Covid-19, have spurred and revived the discussion, topicality and practical need to use the potential of e-learning opportunities which brought up unexpected, additional, previously unsolved, unexplored, challenges and tasks to border guards training. New opportunities and challenges for trainers, learners and administration of training process both in online communication and learning administration contexts. In order to find out and define further e-learning development possibilities at the State Border Guard College the authors of this research explore the scientific literature on the current research findings, methodologies, approaches on developing interactive e-learning systems in educational contexts, particularly within the sphere of law enforcement.     Distance Learning In An Educational Perspective In Indonesia During The Covid-19 Pandemic

    The Existence of the Covid-19 pandemic has a serious impact on teaching and learning activities at various levels and types of educational institutions that were originally face-to-face in the classroom shifted into distance education (distance learning) in the network (online) with online systems (direct) and offline (delay). This study aims to find out how distance learning in the perspective of education in Indonesia during the current Covid-19 pandemic? What's the concept? What are the problems and challenges? And what's the solution? To answer the question above, the method used is the study of the library, namely in this case the author tries to study some available literature to get an explanation relevant to the problem so that the problems in this paper can easily be answered.The results of the literature study stated that (1) Distance learning in an educational perspective in Indonesia, is the implementation of education whose learners are separated from educators and their learning by using various learning resources through information and communication technology, and other media, which serves as a form of education for learners who cannot attend face-to-face education and aims to increase the expansion and equitable access to quality and relevant education as needed; (2) Distance learning during the Covid-19 Pandemic through online learning is focused on life skills education by online or online distance learning methods and offline or offline distance learning.In conclusion, during the Covis-19 pandemic, our education system must be ready to make the leap to transform online learning for all students and by all teachers to enter a new era of building creativity, honing students' skills, and improving self-quality with system changes, perspectives and patterns of our interaction with technology

    Factors Contributing to Student Retention in Online Learning and Recommended Strategies for Improvement: A Systematic Literature Review

    Aim/Purpose This systematic literature review investigates the underlying factors that influence the gap between the popularity of online learning and its completion rate. The review scope within this paper includes an observation of possible causal aspects within the non-ideal completion rates in online learning environments and an identification of recommended strategies to increase retention rates. Background While online learning is increasingly popular, and the number of online students is steadily growing, student retention rates are significantly lower than those in the traditional environment. Despite the multitude of studies, many institutions are still searching for solutions for this matter. Methodology A systematic literature review was conducted on 40 studies published between 2010 and 2018. We established a set of criteria to guide the selection of eligible articles including topic relevance (aligned with the research questions), empirical studies, and publication time frame. Further steps were performed through a major database searching, abstract screening, full-text analysis, and synthesis process. Contribution This study adds to expanding literature regarding student retention and strategies in online learning environments within the higher education setting. Findings Revealed factors include institutional support, the level difficulty of the programs, promotion of a sense of belonging, facilitation of learning, course design, student behavioral characteristics, and demographic variables along with other personal variables. The recommended strategies identified for improving student retention are early interventions, at-all-times supports for students, effective communication, support for faculty teaching online classes, high-quality instructional feedback and strategies, guidance to foster positive behavioral characteristics, and collaboration among stakeholders to support online students. Recommendations for Practitioners Since factors within the open systems of online learning are interrelated, we recommend a collective effort from multiple stakeholders when addressing retention issues in online learning. Recommendation for Researchers We recommend that fellow scholars consider focusing on each influential factor and recommendation in regard to student retention in online learning environments as synthesized in this study. Findings will further enrich the literature on student retention in online learning environments. Future Research Future research may investigate various data-mining and analytics techniques pertaining to detection and prediction of at-risk students, the efficacy of student support and faculty support programs, and ways to encourage struggling students to adopt effective strategies that potentially engender positive learning behaviors

    Synchronization and Caching Solution for Cost-Effective E-Learning in Resource and Bandwidth Constrained Environments

    Electronic learning (e-learning) content delivery and accessibility have received significant research attention over years in order to ensure reliability, availability and cost-effectiveness through Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).The evolvement of mobile computing devices especially smartphones bring prospects in overcoming the inherent limitations of the Internet when accessing web contents.  Among the potential opportunity revealed includes the ability to work offline. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the existing online and offline e-learning systems in order to explore the uniqueness, technical problems and opportunities in this field. In the same vein, this study proposed synchronization and caching approach for cost-effective e-learning content delivery. The proposed approach synchronizes contents from the original server to local database in mobile computing devices in order to deliver contents to learners in a reliable, cost-effective and timely manner. Finally, comparing existing web-based learning system and the proposed approach, the analyzed results provide empirical evidence that, the proposed approach is significant for bandwidth usage cost saving and hence cost-effectiveness due to ability of working offline. Therefore, synchronization and caching approach cut down several limitations in existing e-learning systems including:  reduction of cost of bandwidth usage; improving system performance by cutting down the servers’ workload and internet usage overheads; cutting down costs of purchasing hardware and increasing motivation in learning activities by allowing learners to access learning contents anywhere and anytime.     PERAN LITERASI DIGITAL DALAM PEMBELAJARAN DARING PENDIDIKAN ANAK USIA DINI (PAUD)

    The goal of this study was to assess the level of digital literacy proficiency among parents of PAUD students in the Ngawi Regency. The research was conducted using a mixed-methods approach and benchmarked against prior studies of a similar nature on parental digital literacy and online learning at the PAUD level under the new normal. The study's findings included data from 30 PAUD who participated as respondents and represented 30 subdistricts in the Ngawi Regency. Based on the survey's findings, it is known that the majority of PAUD-level online learning processes still use message-based communication via SMS or Whatsapp media instead of digital learning platforms. Numerous PAUD schools have attempted to teach using digital platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Team, but their efforts have been limited by students' low levels of computer proficiency and parents' limited availability. This demonstrates that despite the fact that practically all parents are accustomed to utilizing mobile devices and other digital communication tools for communication, they do not know how to utilize them for learning. According to the study's findings, in order to support the success of learning programs and activities, particularly those conducted online due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, policies and guidelines for digital literacy must concentrate on improving parents' knowledge of and capacity for access to digital learning systems.   Keywords: Digital Literacy, Online Learning, PAUD, Covid-19Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menilai tingkat kemampuan literasi digital orang tua siswa PAUD di Kabupaten Ngawi. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan metode campuran dan mengacu pada studi sebelumnya yang serupa tentang literasi digital orang tua dan pembelajaran daring di tingkat PAUD di era new normal. Temuan penelitian meliputi data dari 30 PAUD yang berpartisipasi sebagai responden dan mewakili 30 kecamatan di Kabupaten Ngawi. Berdasarkan temuan survei diketahui bahwa sebagian besar proses pembelajaran daring tingkat PAUD masih menggunakan komunikasi berbasis pesan melalui media SMS atau Whatsapp sebagai pengganti platform pembelajaran digital. Banyak sekolah PAUD telah mencoba untuk mengajar menggunakan platform digital seperti Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Team, tetapi upaya mereka dibatasi oleh tingkat kemampuan komputer siswa yang rendah dan ketersediaan orang tua yang terbatas. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa walaupun hampir semua orang tua sudah terbiasa menggunakan perangkat mobile dan alat komunikasi digital lainnya untuk berkomunikasi, namun mereka tidak mengetahui bagaimana cara memanfaatkannya untuk pembelajaran. Berdasarkan temuan kajian tersebut, untuk mendukung keberhasilan program dan kegiatan pembelajaran, khususnya yang dilaksanakan secara daring akibat pandemi COVID-19 yang masih berlangsung, kebijakan dan pedoman literasi digital harus berkonsentrasi pada peningkatan pengetahuan dan kapasitas orang tua untuk mengakses sistem pembelajaran digital.
