Research on Quality of Service Based Routing Protocols for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

    Get PDF
Quality of service (QoS) based routing protocols play a significant role in MANETs to maintain proper flow of data with efficient power consumption and without data loss. However, several network resource based technical challenges or issues are encountered in the design and implementation of QoS routing protocols that perform their routing function by considering the shortest route or the lowest cost. Furthermore, a secondary route is not reserved and alternative routes are not searched unless the established route is broken. The current structures of the state-of-the-art protocols for MANETs are not appropriate for today's high bandwidth and mobility requirements. Therefore, research on new routing protocols is needed, considering energy level, coverage, location, speed, movement, and link stability instead of only shortest path and lowest cost. This paper summarizes the main characteristics of QoS-based routing protocols to facilitate researchers to design and select QoS-based routing protocols. In this study, a wide range of protocols with their characteristics were classified according to QoS routing strategy, routing information update mechanism, interaction between network and MAC layer, QoS constraints, QoS guarantee type and number of discovered routes. In addition, the protocols were compared in terms of properties, design features, challenges and QoS metrics

In Mobile Ad hoc network (MANET), link quality and stability of links as well as nodes play a major role. In ad hoc network, links are often changing which could affect the node mobility and integrity of data packets. In this research work, Network Reliability based Secure Multicast Routing Protocol (NRSMRP) is proposed to achieve network reliability by means of creation of reliable multicast tree. This multicast tree is constructed based on link quality and reliability trust metric. In first phase, node categorization and reliability metric calculation are implemented with the help of link quality. In second phase, reliable multicast tree is formed based on parent node and child node. Parent node must have god capacity and signal strength to communicate with child node. In last phase, authentication based multicast routes are established based on the calculation of direct reputation of mobile nodes. From the results, proposed protocol achieves better performance than existing schemes

In Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) routing protocols are used to discover routes between a source-destination pair. The traditional routing protocols in MANETs discovery routes based on the shortest hop count metric due to which the routes selected for data transmission may be of low quality. A link on a selected route is low considered as low quality link if it requires more number of re-transmissions to transmit a data packet to next hop. This can be happen due to interference and contention on the link caused by nearby data sessions of high distance between the communication nodes which weakens the signal strength due to which the probability of frame error rate increases. Therefore, we require a routing protocol which uses a route discovery process which is based on other metrics than the shortest hop count to improve the communication process in wireless MANETs. In this thesis, we propose a multipath route discovery algorithm which considers the quality of an intermediate link as a metric for its inclusion in the possible routes selected between a source-destination pair. We can now use the secondary route without causing a new route discovery process due to this the network overhead caused by a route discovery process will be avoided. This increases the network communication performance greatly. The proposed LQMR routing protocol is implemented in the trail version of network simulator called EXata. The simulation results are taken on various network scenarios which are created with varying network loads and network mobility to check the effectiveness of our proposed method. Various performance metrics are used to evaluate the simulation results obtained such as end-to-end network delay, network routing overhead and packet delivery ratio. The performance metrics evaluation and analysis show that the proposed LQMR protocol greatly improves the performance of data transmission in MANETs while effectively handle the topology changes caused by the network mobility

Multipath Ant Colony Optimization Algorithm (MBEEACO) to Improve the Life Time of MANET

MANET selects a path with least number of intermediate nodes to reach the destination node. As the distance between each node increases, the quantity of transmission control increases. The power level of nodes affects the simplicity with which a route is constituted between a couple of nodes. This research paper utilizes the swarm intelligence technique through the artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm to optimize the energy consumption in a dynamic source routing (DSR) protocol in MANET. The ABC algorithm is used to identify the optimal path from the source to the destination to overcome energy problems. The performance of the proposed MBEEACO algorithm is compared with DSR and bee-inspired protocols. The comparison was conducted based on average energy consumption, average throughput, average end-to-end delay, routing overhead, and packet delivery ratio performance metrics, varying the node speed and packet size. The proposed MBEEACO algorithm is superior in performance than other protocols in terms of energy conservation and delay degradation relating to node speed and packet size

Being infrastructure-less and without central administration control, wireless ad-hoc networking is playing a more and more important role in extending the coverage of traditional wireless infrastructure (cellular networks, wireless LAN, etc). This book includes state-of-the-art techniques and solutions for wireless ad-hoc networks. It focuses on the following topics in ad-hoc networks: quality-of-service and video communication, routing protocol and cross-layer design. A few interesting problems about security and delay-tolerant networks are also discussed. This book is targeted to provide network engineers and researchers with design guidelines for large scale wireless ad hoc networks

Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET) are considered as self-configured network those does not have any centralized base station for the network monitoring and control. MANET environment does not control architecture for routing for the frequent maintenance of topology. The drastic development of Internet leads to adverse effect of development in MANET for different multimedia application those are sensitive to latency. Upon the effective maintenance of the QoS routing route discovery is performed to calculate queue and contention delay. However, the MANET requirement comprises of the complex procedure to withstand the Quality of Service (QoS) with Artificial Intelligence (AI). In MANET it is necessary to compute the MANET attacks with improved QoS with the reduced latency as existing model leads to higher routing and increased latency.  In this paper proposed a Generative Boltzmann Networking Weighted Graph (GBNWG) model for the QoS improvement in MANET to reduce latency. With GBNWG model the MANET model network performance are computed with the weighted graph model. The developed weighted graph computes the routes in the MANET network for the estimation of the available path in the routing metrices. The proposed GBNWG model is comparatively estimated with the conventional QOD technique. Simulation analysis stated that GBNWG scheme exhibits the improved performance in the QoS parameters. The GBNWG scheme improves the PDR value by 12%, 41% reduced control packets and 45% improved throughput value
