How employee portal contributes for the intangible assets value creation

    Get PDF
Today's increasingly business competition and the information technologies development led to huge corporate organisational changes and pulled intangible assets up in the value chain. Employees’ skills, talent and know how, intellectual property, information, information systems, infrastructure, culture, teamwork capacity and other forms of non-physical assets are critical sources of value. But in order to generate value they must be integrated with each other and aligned with the objectives for the internal processes. To address some organisation concerns related to value creation and change management, a theoretical multi-tier framework was developed. This framework illustrates the path and flows of value-creation, the relationships between “intangible assets” and the representation of “enabling changes projects”. Strategy Map and Benefits Dependency Network were combined, resulting in a stronger framework to help organizations enhancing their strategy knowledge, to reduce the risk of projects failure, and to capture real value from their investments. In order to understand how an employee portal contributes for the intangible assets value creation process, an Employee Portal case study was carried out. The author performed a preliminary study comprising a literature review and data collection followed with semi-structured interviews and analysis of employee satisfaction surveys results to triangulate and confirm all the data gathered.O aumento da competitividade empresarial aliado ao nível de desenvolvimento das tecnologias de informação provocou enormes mudanças organizacionais e aumentou a importância dos ativos intangíveis na cadeia de valor.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation is a complex and vibrant process, one that involves a combination of technological and organizational interactions. Often an ERP implementation project is the single largest IT project that an organization has ever launched and requires a mutual fit of system and organization. Also the concept of an ERP implementation supporting business processes across many different departments is not a generic, rigid and uniform concept and depends on variety of factors. As a result, the issues addressing the ERP implementation process have been one of the major concerns in industry. Therefore ERP implementation receives attention from practitioners and scholars and both, business as well as academic literature is abundant and not always very conclusive or coherent. However, research on ERP systems so far has been mainly focused on diffusion, use and impact issues. Less attention has been given to the methods used during the configuration and the implementation of ERP systems, even though they are commonly used in practice, they still remain largely unexplored and undocumented in Information Systems research. So, the academic relevance of this research is the contribution to the existing body of scientific knowledge. An annotated brief literature review is done in order to evaluate the current state of the existing academic literature. The purpose is to present a systematic overview of relevant ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks as a desire for achieving a better taxonomy of ERP implementation methodologies. This paper is useful to researchers who are interested in ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks. Results will serve as an input for a classification of the existing ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks. Also, this paper aims also at the professional ERP community involved in the process of ERP implementation by promoting a better understanding of ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks, its variety and history

This master project has the objective to develop a Business Plan which will provide the launch of a consulting firm that delivers services in the São Paulo state, Brazil. The sugarcane consulting sector has become highly technological in this area, and a lack of responsible and fast services, focus on people´s satisfaction is evidenced. Therefore, based on a ground study, consultants and managers expertise, we quickly realized that agriculture firms look alike and propose no easy requesting for clients, as well as, no organized services´ catalog. There is an opportunity for consulting focus in the main crop produced in the region, which is sugarcane. After the analyses of the current market on a macro context, implementation of a survey for the main agriculture consulting users and hence the founders’ careful analysis, the launch of the first Sugarcane specialized firm in Brazil took place. Sugarcane is the main crop produced in Brazil regarding monetary turnover, and a consulting focus only on its chain is the perfect way for quicker services to enterprises and farmers. Associated with the flexibility when requesting the services and following up with your account via APP or website, Dr.Cana will be able to achieve also the region and fulfill the need for a variety of clients. We show in this business plan that consulting platforms are low capital requirement business that becomes quickly profitable. According to our forecasts, Dr.Cana should break even after the first year of operations, reaching a profit of R509,203.20.EstatesedemestradotemcomoobjetivodesenvolverumPlanodeNegoˊcioqueproporcionaraˊolanc\camentodeumaconsultoriaprestadoradeservic\cosnoestadodeSa~oPaulo,Brasil. TambeˊmassociamosoDr.Canacomaflexibilidadeaosolicitarosservic\coseacompanharsuacontaviaAPPousite,quepoderaˊalcanc\carfuturamenteoutrasregio~esnopaıˊseatenderumavariedadedeclientes.Mostramosnesteplanodenegoˊcioqueasplataformasdeconsultoriasa~onegoˊciosdebaixaexige^nciadecapitalesetornamrapidamentelucrativas.

e-Skills: The International dimension and the Impact of Globalisation - Final Report 2014

    Get PDF
In today’s increasingly knowledge-based economies, new information and communication technologies are a key engine for growth fuelled by the innovative ideas of highly - skilled workers. However, obtaining adequate quantities of employees with the necessary e-skills is a challenge. This is a growing international problem with many countries having an insufficient numbers of workers with the right e-Skills. For example: Australia: “Even though there’s 10,000 jobs a year created in IT, there are only 4500 students studying IT at university, and not all of them graduate” (Talevski and Osman, 2013). Brazil: “Brazil’s ICT sector requires about 78,000 [new] people by 2014. But, according to Brasscom, there are only 33,000 youths studying ICT related courses in the country” (Ammachchi, 2012). Canada: “It is widely acknowledged that it is becoming inc reasingly difficult to recruit for a variety of critical ICT occupations –from entry level to seasoned” (Ticoll and Nordicity, 2012). Europe: It is estimated that there will be an e-skills gap within Europe of up to 900,000 (main forecast scenario) ICT pr actitioners by 2020” (Empirica, 2014). Japan: It is reported that 80% of IT and user companies report an e-skills shortage (IPA, IT HR White Paper, 2013) United States: “Unlike the fiscal cliff where we are still peering over the edge, we careened over the “IT Skills Cliff” some years ago as our economy digitalized, mobilized and further “technologized”, and our IT skilled labour supply failed to keep up” (Miano, 2013)

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES).This dissertation addresses the role of business politics in the context of Chinese state-owned multinationals by analyzing the emergence and consolidation of a state-owned energy company and its internationalisation to Brazil. The single case study traces the corporate evolution from its initial emergence in 2002 as a consequence of China's power sector reforms to its operations in Brazil in 2016. The findings build on more than three years of field research - including interviews in electricity supply sectors in Brazil and China - as well as extensive analysis of archival and government documents. Using an institutionalist approach, the dissertation identifies that business politics is an important resource to help the company gain competitive advantage. In China, where the company's institutional embeddedness was strong, the company developed the ability to pursue its industrial and internationalisation agenda with relative autonomy, albeit confined to the state-business relations. In Brazil, where its institutional embeddedness was weak, it depended on comparative economic advantage, such as low-cost bidding, technology knowledge transfer, and comparative political advantage, such as diplomatic support. As a result, the case study shows that the firm is able to incrementally build on existing strengths and industrial capabilities to participate in the Brazilian energy sector, while simultaneously consolidating its domestic position in China. In addition to contributing to the literature on the relationship between state-owned enterprises and the state, the study contributes to broader debates about the differences in state-business relations, the political origins of corporate decisions, and industrial upgrading in emerging economies

Semantic discovery and reuse of business process patterns

    Get PDF
Patterns currently play an important role in modern information systems (IS) development and their use has mainly been restricted to the design and implementation phases of the development lifecycle. Given the increasing significance of business modelling in IS development, patterns have the potential of providing a viable solution for promoting reusability of recurrent generalized models in the very early stages of development. As a statement of research-in-progress this paper focuses on business process patterns and proposes an initial methodological framework for the discovery and reuse of business process patterns within the IS development lifecycle. The framework borrows ideas from the domain engineering literature and proposes the use of semantics to drive both the discovery of patterns as well as their reuse

Business process modelling in ERP implementation literature review

Business processes are the backbone of any Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation. Business process modelling (BPM) has become essential for modern, process driven enterprises due to the vibrant business environments. As a consequence enterprises are dealing with a substantial rate of organizational and business processes change. Business process modelling enables a common understanding and analysis of the business processes, which is the first step in every ERP implementation methodology (blueprint phase). In order to represent enterprise processes models in an accurate manner, it is paramount to choose a right business process modeling technique and tool. The problem of many ERP projects rated as unsuccessful is directly connected to a lack of use of business process models and notations during the blueprint phase. Also, blueprint implementation phase is crucial in order to fit planned processes in an organization with processes implemented in the solution. However, business analysts and ERP implementation professionals have substantial difficulties to navigate through a large number of theoretical models and representational notations that have been proposed for business process modeling (BPM). As the availability of different business process modeling references is huge, it is time consuming to make review and classification of all modeling techniques. Therefor, in reality majority of ERP implementations blueprint documents have no business process modeling included in generating blueprint documents. Choosing the right model comprise the purpose of the analysis and acquaintance of the available process modelling techniques and tools. The number of references on business modelling is quit large, so it is very hard to make a decision which modeling notation or technique to use. The main purpose of this paper is to make a review of business process modelling literature and describe the key process modelling techniques. The focus will be on all business process modeling that could be used in ERP implementations, specifically during the blueprint phase of the implementation process. Detailed review of BPM (Business process modeling) theoretical models and representational notations, should assist decision makers and ERP integrators in comparatively evaluating and selecting suitable modeling approaches
