State-of-the-art on evolution and reactivity
This report starts by, in Chapter 1, outlining aspects of querying and updating resources on
the Web and on the Semantic Web, including the development of query and update languages
to be carried out within the Rewerse project.
From this outline, it becomes clear that several existing research areas and topics are of
interest for this work in Rewerse. In the remainder of this report we further present state of
the art surveys in a selection of such areas and topics. More precisely: in Chapter 2 we give
an overview of logics for reasoning about state change and updates; Chapter 3 is devoted to briefly describing existing update languages for the Web, and also for updating logic programs;
in Chapter 4 event-condition-action rules, both in the context of active database systems and
in the context of semistructured data, are surveyed; in Chapter 5 we give an overview of some relevant rule-based agents frameworks
Active databases, business rules and reactive agents - what is the connection?
These three technologies were and still are mainly treated separately. Since not much work has been carried out in defining and combining them together, we are going to present what has been done and put accent on what could be done. Namely, they rely upon similar paradigms and concepts, as will be shown later on, and can be treated as complementary technologies. In this paper we will show that reactive agents react according to some set of business rules and active databases can be used as a suitable means for implementing business rules and in those way reactive agents as well. Since reactive agents have been well defined, recent improvements in the fields of active databases technology and especially business rules provide the reason to consider the benefits to be achieved from combining these fields
TEMPOS: A Platform for Developing Temporal Applications on Top of Object DBMS
This paper presents TEMPOS: a set of models and languages supporting the manipulation of temporal data on top of object DBMS. The proposed models exploit object-oriented technology to meet some important, yet traditionally neglected design criteria related to legacy code migration and representation independence. Two complementary ways for accessing temporal data are offered: a query language and a visual browser. The query language, namely TempOQL, is an extension of OQL supporting the manipulation of histories regardless of their representations, through fully composable functional operators. The visual browser offers operators that facilitate several time-related interactive navigation tasks, such as studying a snapshot of a collection of objects at a given instant, or detecting and examining changes within temporal attributes and relationships. TEMPOS models and languages have been formalized both at the syntactical and the semantical level and have been implemented on top of an object DBMS. The suitability of the proposals with regard to applications' requirements has been validated through concrete case studies

OCL2Trigger: Deriving active mechanisms for relational databases using Model-Driven Architecture
16 pages, 10 figures.-- Issue title: "Best papers from the 2007 Australian Software Engineering Conference (ASWEC 2007), Melbourne, Australia, April 10-13, 2007, Australian Software Engineering Conference 2007".Transforming integrity constraints into active rules or triggers for verifying database consistency produces a serious and complex problem related to real time behaviour that must be considered for any implementation. Our main contribution to this work is to provide a complete approach for deriving the active mechanisms for Relational Databases from the specification of the integrity constraints by using OCL. This approach is designed in accordance with the MDA approach which consists of transforming the specified OCL clauses into a class diagram into SQL:2003 standard triggers, then transforming the standard triggers into target DBMS triggers. We believe that developing triggers and plugging them into a given model is insufficient because the behaviour of such triggers is invisible to the developers, and therefore not controllable. For this reason, a DBMS trigger verification model is used in our approach, in order to ensure the termination of trigger execution. Penghasilan dan penilaian video pembelajaran (CD) bagi mata pelajaran Prinsip Ekonomi (BPA 1013) bertajuk permintaan dan penawaran di KUITTHO
Kajian ini dijaiankan untuk meniiai keberkesanan sebuah video pembeiajaran
(CD) mata peiajaran Prinsip Ekonomi (BPA 1013) bertajuk Permintaan dan Penawaran.
Bagi tujuan tersebut, sebuah video pembelajaran telah dihasilkan membantu pelajar
bagi memahami mata pelajaran berkenan semasa proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran
berlaku. Video pembelajaran yang dihasilkan ini kemudian dinilai dari aspek proses
pengajaran dan pembelajaran, minat dan persepsi responden terhadap ciri-ciri video
(audio dan visual). Seramai 60 orang pelajar semester 2 Sarjana Muda Sains
Pengurusan di Kolej Universiti Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn telah dipiih bagi membuat
penilaian kebolehgunaan produk ini sebagai alat bantuan mengajar di dalam kelas.
Semua data yang diperolehi kemudiannya dikumpulkan bagi dianalisis dengan
menggunakan perisian "SrarMfKM/ Pac/rageybr Rocaj/ Sb/'eace " (SPSS). Hasil dapatan
kajian yang dilakukan jelas menunjukkan video pengajaran yang dihasilkan dan dinilai
ini amat sesuai digunakan bagi tujuan memenuhi keperluan proses pengajaran dan
pembelajaran subjek ini di dalam kelas
A Survey on Transactional Stream Processing
Transactional stream processing (TSP) strives to create a cohesive model that
merges the advantages of both transactional and stream-oriented guarantees.
Over the past decade, numerous endeavors have contributed to the evolution of
TSP solutions, uncovering similarities and distinctions among them. Despite
these advances, a universally accepted standard approach for integrating
transactional functionality with stream processing remains to be established.
Existing TSP solutions predominantly concentrate on specific application
characteristics and involve complex design trade-offs. This survey intends to
introduce TSP and present our perspective on its future progression. Our
primary goals are twofold: to provide insights into the diverse TSP
requirements and methodologies, and to inspire the design and development of
groundbreaking TSP systems
