    Get PDF
The technological solutions and communication capabilities offered by the Internet of Things paradigm, in terms of raising availability of wearable devices, the ubiquitous internet connection, and the presence on the market of service-oriented solutions, have allowed a wide proposal of Location Based Services (LBS). In a close future, we foresee that companies and service providers will have developed reliable solutions to address indoor positioning, as basis for useful location based services. These solutions will be different from each other and they will adopt different hardware and processing techniques. This paper describes the proposal of a unified approach for Indoor Localization Systems that enables the cooperation between heterogeneous solutions and their functional modules. To this end, we designed an integrated architecture that, abstracting its main components, allows a seamless interaction among them. Finally, we present a working prototype of such architecture, which is based on the popular Telegram application for Android, as an integration demonstrator. The integration of the three main phases –namely the discovery phase, the User Agent self-configuration, and the indoor map retrieval/rendering– demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed integrated architectur

This paper will guide librarians to effectively utilise and improve the quality of library websites. Keywords - Content Analysis, Library Website, University Libraries Paper Type - Research Pape

WISER Deliverable D3.3-2: The importance of invertebrate spatial and temporal variation for ecological status classification for European lakes

    Get PDF
European lakes are affected by many human induced disturbances. In principle, ecological theories predict that the structure and functioning of benthic invertebrate assemblage (one of the Biological Quality Elements following the Water Framework Directive, WFD terminology) change in response to the level of disturbances, making this biological element suitable for assessing the status and management of lake ecosystems. In practice, to set up assessment systems based on invertebrates, we need to distiguish community changes that are related to human pressures from those that are inherent natural variability. This task is complicated by the fact that invertebrate communities inhabiting the littoral and the profundal zones of lakes are constrained by different factors and respond unevenly to distinct human disturbances. For example it is not clear yet how the invertebrates assemblages respond to watershed and shoreline alterations, nor the relative importance of spatial and temporal factors on assemblage dynamics and relative bioindicator values of taxa, the habitat constraints on species traits and other taxonomic and methodological limitations. The current lack of knowledge of basic features of invertebrate temporal and spatial variations is limiting the fulfillment of the EU-wide intercalibration of lake ecological quality assessment systems in Europe, and thus compromising the basis for setting the environmental objectives as required by the WFD. The aim of this deliverable is to provide a contribution towards the understanding of basic sources of spatial and temporal variation of lake invertebrate assemblages. The report is structured around selected case studies, manly involving the analysis of existing datasets collated within WISER. The case studies come from different European lake types in the Northern, Central, Alpine and Mediterranean regions. All chapters have an obvious applied objective and our aim is to provide to those dealing with WFD implementation at various levels useful information to consider when designing monitoring programs and / or invertebrate-based classification systems

This research aimed to study on the implementation of electronic government system in selected local authorities, Alor Setar City Council (MBAS) and its impacts on the organization and the local community. Electronic government was introduced on 1999 through Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) which was one of the plans under Vision 2020. In Malaysia, the main aim on introducing electronic government was to make it acts as a medium to transform government sector and also as the trigger of MSC development success. Electronic government system is also a transformation in enhancing service quality by local authorities towards local community. Therefore, government has taken several proactive initiatives in enhancing the electronic based administration and management of country, starting from the local authority level. Besides that, people had been exposed with consumers towards information and communication technology (ICT) which made the implementation of electronic government system, as people demands a service that is effective, efficient, practical, and fast in line with progress of the nation. The implementation of electronic government especially in local authorities has not only changed the way of service providing, it also changes the communication structure of the authorities with local people. The people get benefits in connecting with local authorities’ service and getting information by using the application provided by the local authorities. However, this study found that there are still some constraints that dampen the process in implementing electronic government fully in the local authority level because of lacks of innovation in providing services

The medium which carries out telecommunication is referred to as a channel. In India, the subscriber base of the telecommunication channels is huge, dynamic, and ever-changing. To satisfy the changing channel preferences of the learners of diverse demographics virtually, it is important for the university libraries situated in metropolitan cities in India to integrate multiple channels. The channel integration strategy allows coordinating multiple channels to create and connect different paths for the clients to reach the same organization. The study has featured the channel integration status in the libraries of 46 UGC-listed universities of four metropolitan cities- Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai. The purposive sampling method has been followed to select the samples for the study and the observation method is used to collect the qualitative data on the channels from the websites of all the selected universities and library web pages. The channel integration features in the website have been emphasized according to Goersch’s six elements. The table on the forms and combination of channels have aided to specify the channel-specific capabilities and information management. The presence of telephone and email in all the university library websites has justified the strategy about the types of communication channels, network, and cost; portability; multimedia sharing; audience outreach and connectivity; accuracy of communication; and information overload/ traffic generation. Except for consistency, the elements like branding channel cross-promotion and logistics are not prominently implemented in the libraries

The location of a mobile user poses an important information for applications in the scope of Mobile Computung, Wearable Computing and Ubiquitous Computing. If a mobile device is able to determine the current location of its user, this information may be taken into account by an application. Such applications are called a location-based applications. Closely related to location-based applications are location-based services, which for example provides the user informations about his current location. Meanwhile such services are deployed commercially and enable travelers for example to find a hotel, a petrol station or a pharmacy in his vicinity. It is expected, not least because of the introduction of LTE, a great potential of locations-based applications in the future. The annual technical meeting "Location-based Applications and Services" of the GI/ITG specialized group "Communication and Dsitributed Systems" targets to discuss current evolutions in a broad group of participants assembling of industrial representatives and scientists. The present proceedings summarizes the result of the 9th annual meeting
