Small and Medium sized Enterprisesâ Collaborative Buyer-Supplier Relationships: Boundary Spanning Individual Perspectives
Boundary-spanning individuals (BSIs) play a critical role in supply chain management, especially in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) where interactions with buyers and suppliers can depend heavily on just a few individuals. This study, utilizing data from Korean manufacturing-sector SMEs, explores whether cooperative social value orientations of SMEsâ BSIs influence the effects of collaborative buyer-supplier initiatives. The results suggested that the performance implication of decision-sharing initiative increases when BSIs have a high level of cooperative social value orientation. However, it also negatively moderates the relationship between risk/benefit sharing (involving financial losses or gains) and performance suggesting possible negative side-effects. However, we found that such orientation also negatively moderates the relationship between risk/benefit sharing (involving direct financial losses or gains) and relationship performance suggesting possible negative side-effects
Regional resilience in recessionary times: a case study of the East Midlands
Purpose: Since the 1990's the fashion industry has reflected the issues generally arising in the manufacturing sector, namely rapid and deep structural changes, the development of new supply chain relationships, ICT impacts and increasing globalisation with the attendant issues of ethical sourcing, off-shoring, new emerging markets and recessionary ripples. This paper focuses on one particular aspect of the fashion industry, namely the apparel sector and in particular 'fast fashion' to explore the issues arising for the SMEs in the supply chain. Approach: The research adopts a qualitative methodology and is longitudinal in nature, spanning 5 years from August 2006. The first stage of the research is reported here, where a series of focussed interview scenarios were conducted over an eighteenth month period. The sample of 12 SMEs was a convenience one, drawn from the 30 participants who took part in a business to business event in Leicester, a geographical location which acts as a microcosm of the apparel industry. Interviews were used to elicit narrative data about was what was actually happening in these apparel supply chains. Findings: The apparel supply chain has changed significantly due to recessionary ripples and structural changes. The SMEs have had more success in managing the upstream rather than the downstream relationships and relationships between buyer and suppliers continue to be fractious. Innovation has occurred but is hampered by the relationships that persist. Culture has proved to be a key dimension
Collaborative driving mode of sustainable marketing and supply chain management supported by metaverse technology
In this article, we aim to explore the relationship between sustainable marketing and supply chain management (SCM) under the background of metaverse technology to realize the sustainable development of enterprises. First, this study deeply studies the influence of metaverse technology on sustainable marketing strategy from the theoretical level. Second, it deeply discusses the integration of digital transformation and sustainable development in SCM. Finally, this study implements a collaborative driving model of sustainable marketing and SCM supported by metaverse. By designing and analyzing the questionnaire on the sustainable performance of enterprises, it is found that SCM, cooperation with customers, investment recovery, sustainable marketing, R&D and design, production, and manufacturing have a significant positive influence on the sustainable performance of enterprises (p<0.01). In addition, the distribution and retail in sustainable marketing negatively impact the sustainable performance of enterprises, and the standardization coefficient is â0.225 (p<0.05). These research results emphasize the importance of sustainable marketing and SCM, which jointly promote enterprises to achieve sustainable performance, and ultimately provide valuable practical guidance for building a sustainable digital economy and contribute to collaborative optimization in enterprise engineering
Overview and classification of coordination contracts within forward and reverse supply chains
Among coordination mechanisms, contracts are valuable tools used in both theory and practice to coordinate various supply chains. The focus of this paper is to present an overview of contracts and a classification of coordination contracts and contracting literature in the form of classification schemes. The two criteria used for contract classification, as resulted from contracting literature, are transfer payment contractual incentives and inventory risk sharing. The overview classification of the existing literature has as criteria the level of detail used in designing the coordination models with applicability on the forward and reverse supply chains.Coordination contracts; forward supply chain; reverse supply chain
Cluster Development and Knowledge Exchange in Supply Chain
Industry cluster and supply chain are in focus of every countries which rely
on knowledge-based economy. Both focus on improving the competitiveness of firm
in the industry in the different aspect. This paper tries to illustrate how the
industry cluster can increase the supply chain performance. Then, the proposed
methodology concentrates on the collaboration and knowledge exchange in supply
chain. For improving the capability of the proposed methodology, information
technology is applied to facilitate the communication and the exchange of
knowledge between the actors of the supply chain within the cluster. The supply
chain of French stool producer was used as a case study to validate the
methodology and to demonstrate the result of the study
Contextual impacts on industrial processes brought by the digital transformation of manufacturing: a systematic review
The digital transformation of manufacturing (a phenomenon also known as "Industry 4.0" or "Smart Manufacturing") is finding a growing interest both at practitioner and academic levels, but is still in its infancy and needs deeper investigation. Even though current and potential advantages of digital manufacturing are remarkable, in terms of improved efficiency, sustainability, customization, and flexibility, only a limited number of companies has already developed ad hoc strategies necessary to achieve a superior performance. Through a systematic review, this study aims at assessing the current state of the art of the academic literature regarding the paradigm shift occurring in the manufacturing settings, in order to provide definitions as well as point out recurring patterns and gaps to be addressed by future research. For the literature search, the most representative keywords, strict criteria, and classification schemes based on authoritative reference studies were used. The final sample of 156 primary publications was analyzed through a systematic coding process to identify theoretical and methodological approaches, together with other significant elements. This analysis allowed a mapping of the literature based on clusters of critical themes to synthesize the developments of different research streams and provide the most representative picture of its current state. Research areas, insights, and gaps resulting from this analysis contributed to create a schematic research agenda, which clearly indicates the space for future evolutions of the state of knowledge in this field

Integrating information and knowledge for enterprise innovation
It has widely been accepted that enterprise integration, can be a source of socio-technical and cultural problems within organisations wishing to provide a focussed end-to-end business service. This can cause possible âstraitjacketingâ of business process architectures, thus suppressing responsive business re-engineering and competitive advantage for some companies. Accordingly, the current typology and emergent forms of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) technologies are set in the context of understanding information and knowledge integration philosophies. As such, key influences and trends in emerging IS integration choices, for end-to-end, cost-effective and flexible knowledge integration, are examined. As touch points across and outside organisations proliferate, via work-flow and relationship management-driven value innovation, aspects of knowledge refinement and knowledge integration pose challenges to maximising the potential of innovation and sustainable success, within enterprises. This is in terms of the increasing propensity for data fragmentation and the lack of effective information management, in the light of information overload. Furthermore, the nature of IS mediation which is inherent within decision making and workflow-based business processes, provides the basis for evaluation of the effects of information and knowledge integration. Hence, the authors propose a conceptual, holistic evaluation framework which encompasses these ideas. It is thus argued that such trends, and their implications regarding enterprise IS integration to engender sustainable competitive advantage, require fundamental re-thinking
