    Evaluation of Optimization Algorithms for Customers Load Schedule

    This paper introduces a novel concept for customer load scheduling in the Smart Grid (SG). The concept is based on the forthcoming internet of things (IoT). Approximate optimization algorithms are deduced for optimum customer load scheduling, maximization of electric power suppliers performance, and fairness in scheduling customers load. Using these approximate optimization algorithms as constraints, some loads are given priority. Other loads are scheduled in order to control the maximum demand load and electricity bills. To evaluate the effectiveness of the algorithms, we utilize the Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP). Simulations are carried out and the impact on reducing the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), the electricity bills, and ensuring fairness in customers load schedules are investigated. Simulation results establish that our algorithms significantly cut down on electricity bills, maximizes utility performance, and deliver fairness in customers load schedules.©2021 International Association of Engineers (IAENG).fi=vertaisarvioitu|en=peerReviewed

    MBA: A market-based approach to data allocation and migration for cloud database

    With the coming shift to cloud computing, cloud database is emerging to provide database service over the Internet. In the cloud-based environment, data are distributed at internet scale and the system needs to handle a huge number of user queries simultaneously without delay. How data are distributed among the servers has a crucial impact on the query load distribution and the system response time. In this paper, we propose a market-based control method, called MBA, to achieve query load balance via reasonable data distribution. In MBA, database nodes are treated as traders in a market, and certain market rules are used to intelligently decide data allocation and migration. We built a prototype system and conducted extensive experiments. Experimental results show that the MBA method signicantly improves system performance in terms of average query response time and fairness

    Optimal Content Downloading in Vehicular Networks

    We consider a system where users aboard communication-enabled vehicles are interested in downloading different contents from Internet-based servers. This scenario captures many of the infotainment services that vehicular communication is envisioned to enable, including news reporting, navigation maps and software updating, or multimedia file downloading. In this paper, we outline the performance limits of such a vehicular content downloading system by modelling the downloading process as an optimization problem, and maximizing the overall system throughput. Our approach allows us to investigate the impact of different factors, such as the roadside infrastructure deployment, the vehicle-to-vehicle relaying, and the penetration rate of the communication technology, even in presence of large instances of the problem. Results highlight the existence of two operational regimes at different penetration rates and the importance of an efficient, yet 2-hop constrained, vehicle-to-vehicle relaying

    On the quality of VoIP with DCCP for satellite communications

    We present experimental results for the performance of selected voice codecs using DCCP with CCID4 congestion control over a satellite link. We evaluate the performance of both constant and variable data rate speech codecs for a number of simultaneous calls using the ITU E-model. We analyse the sources of packet losses and additionally analyse the effect of jitter which is one of the crucial parameters contributing to VoIP quality and has, to the best of our knowledge, not been considered previously in the published DCCP performance results. We propose modifications to the CCID4 algorithm and demonstrate how these improve the VoIP performance, without the need for additional link information other than what is already monitored by CCID4. We also demonstrate the fairness of the proposed modifications to other flows. Although the recently adopted changes to TFRC specification alleviate some of the performance issues for VoIP on satellite links, we argue that the characteristics of commercial satellite links necessitate consideration of further improvements. We identify the additional benefit of DCCP when used in VoIP admission control mechanisms and draw conclusions about the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed DCCP/CCID4 congestion control mechanism for use with VoIP applications
