Technostress and Continuance Intention of Online Learning in Higher Education: Evidence from Indonesia

    Get PDF
As a developing country, Indonesia faces many obstacles in implementing online learning due to the lack of infrastructure and technical skills. The mandated online learning policy during the spread of the covid-19 virus became a turning point and made massive use. However, the online learning policy raised unforeseen issues such as stress, especially among students. This study focuses on the continuance intention of online learning among college students in Indonesia. The person-environment fit theory serves as a theoretical anchor, with technostress being examined as a predictor. This research uses an online questionnaire to reach 466 college students as research participants. We used partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to examine the research model. The result shows that three types of technostress (techno-overload, techno-invasion, and techno-uncertainty) are confirmed to have a significant negative effect on the continuance intention of online learning. Meanwhile, the other two (techno-complexity and techno-insecurity) do not affect online learning continuance intention. The current study contributes to the literature regarding the technostress and continuance intention of online learning topics, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia. Furthermore, the research provides valuable insight for policymakers and university administrators, enabling them to formulate effective policies for mandated online learning

Navigating the Data Avalanche: Towards Supporting Developers in Developing Privacy-Friendly Children’s Apps

This paper critically examines the intersection of privacy concerns in children's apps and the support required by developers to effectively address these concerns. Third-party libraries and software development kits (SDKs) are widely used in mobile app development, however, these libraries are commonly known for posing significant data privacy risks to users. Recent research has shown that app developers for children are particularly struggling with the lack of support in navigating the complex market of third-party SDKs. The support needed for developers to build privacy-friendly apps is largely understudied. Motivated by the needs of developers and an empirical analysis of 137 'expert-approved' children's apps, we designed DataAvalanche.io, a web-based tool to support app developers in navigating the privacy and legal implications associated with common third-party SDKs on the market. Through semi-structured interviews with 12 app developers for children, we demonstrate that app developers largely perceive the transparency supported by our tool positively. However, they raised several barriers, including the challenges of adopting privacy-friendly alternatives and the struggle to safeguard their own legal interests when facing the imbalance of power in the app market. We contribute to our understanding of the open challenges and barriers faced by app developers in creating privacy-friendly apps for children and provide critical future design and policy directions

This book provides the most current information on the effects of vitamin B deficiency as well as the roles of niacin (vitamin B3), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), folate (vitamin B9), and vitamin B12 in numerous disorders. Chapters discuss novel applications of B-complex vitamins, such as thiamin in patients with critical conditions, dietary supplements in the prevention of renal stones, and treatment of COVID-19. Throughout, the authors discuss the effects of vitamin B deficiency from retrospective, perspective, and prospective points of view

    Air Traffic Management Abbreviation Compendium

    Get PDF
As in all fields of work, an unmanageable number of abbreviations are used today in aviation for terms, definitions, commands, standards and technical descriptions. This applies in general to the areas of aeronautical communication, navigation and surveillance, cockpit and air traffic control working positions, passenger and cargo transport, and all other areas of flight planning, organization and guidance. In addition, many abbreviations are used more than once or have different meanings in different languages. In order to obtain an overview of the most common abbreviations used in air traffic management, organizations like EUROCONTROL, FAA, DWD and DLR have published lists of abbreviations in the past, which have also been enclosed in this document. In addition, abbreviations from some larger international projects related to aviation have been included to provide users with a directory as complete as possible. This means that the second edition of the Air Traffic Management Abbreviation Compendium includes now around 16,500 abbreviations and acronyms from the field of aviation

The Vanishing Frontier: Economic and Social Change in Western North Carolina, 1945-1970

This dissertation works to integrate the growth of regional tourism into the existing historiography of economic development in Appalachia and the postwar American South. Regional leaders introduced an economic transition throughout western North Carolina that emphasized the growth of regional tourism. By centering this study on the growth of regional tourism, this research also analyzes regional boosters’ efforts to manufacture and commodify a racialized and classed folk culture within the region for tourist consumption. In the late nineteenth century, journalists and folklorists had emphasized the deviance of mountain life and simultaneously romanticized the area as a land of rugged, white frontiersmen. Regional leaders during the postwar period embraced many of the romanticized aspects of this Appalachian stereotype in tourist promotions. These narratives also served a political purpose, reinforcing the economic changes that regional leaders initiated and strengthening their calls for various political changes they facilitated in the name of economic development

Drug development progress in duchenne muscular dystrophy

    Get PDF
Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a severe, progressive, and incurable X-linked disorder caused by mutations in the dystrophin gene. Patients with DMD have an absence of functional dystrophin protein, which results in chronic damage of muscle fibers during contraction, thus leading to deterioration of muscle quality and loss of muscle mass over time. Although there is currently no cure for DMD, improvements in treatment care and management could delay disease progression and improve quality of life, thereby prolonging life expectancy for these patients. Furthermore, active research efforts are ongoing to develop therapeutic strategies that target dystrophin deficiency, such as gene replacement therapies, exon skipping, and readthrough therapy, as well as strategies that target secondary pathology of DMD, such as novel anti-inflammatory compounds, myostatin inhibitors, and cardioprotective compounds. Furthermore, longitudinal modeling approaches have been used to characterize the progression of MRI and functional endpoints for predictive purposes to inform Go/No Go decisions in drug development. This review showcases approved drugs or drug candidates along their development paths and also provides information on primary endpoints and enrollment size of Ph2/3 and Ph3 trials in the DMD space

Education data futures: critical, regulatory and practical reflections

The data collected from children at or through their participation in school are exponentially increasing in variety, velocity and volume. But whose interests are served by this ‘datafication’ of education and childhood? This essay collection offers critical, practical and creative reflections that identify exciting possibilities for beneficial uses of children’s education data as well as tackling the exploitative uses or misuse of such data. Collectively, the essays set out principled yet practical proposals for our children’s education data futures
